The bedrooms were on separate sides to give us some nice privacy. I loved the peaceful closed in porch and we used the fire pit outside at night. The bathrooms were nice and clean and I was surprised there was a washer and dryer if we needed! I also liked that it was dog friendly for an extra $20/night fee. That was pricey in my opinion but I can understand, as some people's dogs aren't well behaved. The only small things that weren't perfect, is that there was some kind of beeping by the fireplace so when we sat at the dining room table to eat or work on our laptops, it was kinda annoying and we couldn't figure out what it was from or how to stop it. Next, there wasn't anywhere to walk or go for a run right from the cabin. But there are trails nearby you can drive to and the views on the drives were pretty to see. We had a great weekend, there's so much stuff to do and explore in the area. This cabin was big for 2 people so if you have a group this is a good size. All the bedrooms are on different sides so there is a lot of privacy for each person or couple.

We had six adults staying in the cabin for a long weekend. There was more than enough space for all of us, the hot water was also never an issue. There are also nice subtle touches too. Simple things like Tupperware to save our meals was available for use during our stay. The hot tub was great, even with outside temperatures near 5F to 10F degrees. The cabin also had a nice flat screen wall mounted TV and a great stereo system (with iPhone capability mount). The interaction with the owner was always pleasant and simple. The bottom line: This is a great place to stay if you want a simple weekend in a nice place, with beautiful views!

Unfortunately management at Lewis Cabins have taken the rustic concept waaaaay too far. The cabins have no no television, no Wi-Fi. Not even air conditioning. Frankly I was almost surprised that they had running water. When discussed the primitive accommodations with the management, they said that their basic nature was clear on their website and that most guests are campers that just want to get in out of the weather, or repeat customers who know what to expect. (They did acknowledge that the cabins get pretty hot in the summer with no A/C.) For almost $200/night, I cannot imagine a camper staying there. As to repeat customers, I just have to say that I will NOT be among their ranks. To those who are regulars, I hope you enjoy your night in the 18th Century.

There's no refrigeration or TV (and why would you want to watch TV anyway out in that beautiful nature?) but i was stoked that they had a Keurig coffee maker with coffee and supplies (because I have GOT to have coffee). The water pressure wasnt the greatest in the shower, but it stayed hot the entire time and I left feeling refreshed. It even came with Bath and Body works hygiene supplies, which made me very happy. You get your own little deck to sit out in a marvel at the nature around you. Honestly there is nothing like waking up in the morning and being surrounded by peaceful woods everywhere you go. This is a great place to be if you want to camp without completely roughing it out in the elements. We stayed ONE night, and I seriously wish we stayed. Worth a repeat trip!

The natural light in our room was incredible and so were the street lights! We wore sleep masks and that helped us greatly but without them we likely wouldn't have slept well at all. Also, when we raised issues about cleanliness, the manager responded promptly. I'm not sure we'd stay here again but it was still a solid stay.

We came to Shenandoah Valley for a winter experience and took advantage of some of the great winter…read moredeals (all rate 25% off plus third night was 40% because we booked before Thanksgiving) offered by Brookside. Unfortunately, because of our choice of year, we ran into a few problems, all of which were addressed promptly and satisfactorily by the owners of Brookside. And, because of that, we are in position to review several of the cabins! We booked Cabin 9 and battled through crazy DC drivers who freak out over a literal two inches of snow (aside: seriously DC-area, get it together!) Diane in the gift stop called us that morning to warn us of the impending snow and to let us know that if we ended up arriving late, they would leave the key for us under the doormat. Amazing foresight and we really appreciated her call. When we walked into our cabin, the bathroom sink was overflowing and not draining. Turns out the cold winds had frozen the drainage pipes and Cabin 9, being at the end, got the brunt of it. Cece and Bob, the owners, came down immediately and gave us our choice of cabins. We chose number 2, which is a cozy space with a hot tub, angled bed and intimate fireplace area. The second morning, when we were moved back into 9, the water went out over the entire resort just after our morning shower, but by the time we returned to the cabin in the evening, it was fixed. Overall, I liked Cabin 9 best, with its open layout, its great view from the Jacuzzi tub and its numerous skylights. Cabin 2 was cozy and romantic and I liked the layout of the sofa area around the fireplace and the hot tub was pleasant. Both are ideal for a couple, though Cabin 9 has a pull-out sofa and is large enough to not feel too crowded with kids. We also had a peek into Cabins 7 & 8. Number 8 has a full kitchen and two bedrooms and would be great for a family or even the main house for a family reunion. Cece said it is popular for Thanksgiving gatherings. Cabin 7 is a jacuzzi cabin that was intended to be a two-bedroom but instead has a "tub room." If you like privacy for your Jacuzzi it makes sense, however we did not like that each room was separate. The greatest part about the winter? Beautiful snow-covered trees and a partially frozen brook that still babbles underneath it AND the amazing Christmas decorations in each cabin. The usual decor is a bit old-fashioned and flowery, but the Christmas decorations are really fabulous and fun. The restaurant was closed from Thanksgiving until the second week of January. Also, the cabins are really close to 211, which could get noisy in the summer, maybe? But we did not hear much traffic from our cabin, which was next to the roadway. Plus, you can't get any closer to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We hope to return this spring!

The kitchen utensils, cups, glasses, cookware and everything else, has not been replaced nor updated since 1984. You basically need to rent a uhaul and bring half of your kitchen, half of your linens, comforters, towels- just bring everything from home- DO NOT USE anything there. Drape the sofas, bedpost, use flip flops to shower, do not touch anything in shower, use disposable toilet seat cover. Just skip kitchen all together go out to eat. There are No lights on deck nor steps going down to lower deck; no lights on lower deck. So unless there's a full moon, you will basically need to bring flashlights, lanterns, solar lights, even a candle to light the way. The BBQ grill had used burnout charcoal from last renters. Couldn't open sliding doors facing the river at night because the screen doors are missing. The tv is BEHIND the sofa as if we have eyes behind our heads, and it is smaller than my computer screen. They offer streaming services- but when you open Netflix, they have created a profile with your name,in their streaming apps, without permission and it is impossible to log out of their streaming services in order to log into yours. So you are stuck with that. All 4 ceiling fans are very dirty, and with all the dust and dirt please don't forget your zyrtec. Bottom line for $145 - $165 per night, and having to haul everything that you will need- you are better off camping by the river, renting a cabin from another company or staying at a hotel. This people are riding on free natural views of the river and nature, while disgracefully renting out these cabins that are no better than camping under a bridge. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM; THEY OWN SEVERAL CABINS LIKE THIS ONE.

Skyland is our favorite place to stay in the Shenandoah. It's centrally located and some of the…read morerenovated motel style rooms are much nicer than they used to be. Clean enough for park lodges, firm beds and decent quality bedding. This time we stayed in a premium room with two doubles in the pinnacle building right next to the office and the restaurant so very convenient for breakfast. It's west facing so you get the sunset. Room's a good size with a closet/luggage area outside the bathroom, wood flooring, fridge, a small table with two chairs, and there are also two patio chairs outside the door (upper floor has better view on the balcony - ground floor has a grassy lawn area in front). Aircon doesn't seem to be working but room feels pretty cool with the ceiling fan on. WiFi is pretty much nonexistent - it only seems to work in the office where there is a seating area or maybe the dining room. This time also tried the closest trail - Stony Man - a short walk from the lodge. Not sure why it took us so many visit to hike on this trail - it's a short walk (just an easy 1.6 mile circuit) to the summit with fantastic view of the valley and enough space on the rock outcropping to sit on to enjoy the view.

We discussed the customer service aspect that this whole experience was lacking. The original issue was not the lack of a transparent policy, of which we had followed all rules, it was the automatic assumption that we had broken those rules based on limited evidence and without contacting the customer directly. Then the resulting customer service experience was a failure because instead of returning my phone call, I received another email that again was not informed by any discussion. I am glad the issue is resolved and hope that this situation will help promote a better experience for others in the future. Last update: Marriott did attempt to call me back yesterday but I was not available. I still have not spoken to a manager, nor explained anything from my perspective, but as a "gesture of goodwill" the charge was removed. Updated review: With no call from a manager and without them asking for additional details, I received another email that said that "our team is trained to distinguish between residual outdoor fire smells and odors associated with tobacco products inside the cabin" and the charges stand. I once again called to speak to a manager and one is not available. I am supposed to receive a call back "later." To be clear, this is not about the actual nominal charge, it is being charged when we do not smoke and are being accused of smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products inside the cabin when in fact it was fire smoke, without the benefit of asking for any details from the customer.

It also had a small bathroom with a shower. Management texted us daily to check on us, including if we needed anything. They restocked the firewood daily, along with fire starters and indoor supplies like coffee, hot chocolate, and a S'mores kit. The campground had a nice hiking trail, which we enjoyed, too. We had a great time and would go back.
