I had a few days to hire a crew and I called around to several businesses and individual professionals...I found the town was busy, and the options were limited. Most people I talked to, was a mix between fielding a lot of strange questions and negotiating what I could expect with the limited budget I was working with...nothing that filled me with a lot of confidence. I'm generally skeptical of negotiating with someone I've never worked with and can't assess the experience/quality of what it is that I'm negotiating. Moreover, as someone who works in film and tv in Los Angeles, I wanted some certainty that the quality in Chicago would be the same as what I was familiar with my network back in LA. I was running out of time, when a good friend recommended Ben Mahoney's company. From the minute I talked to Ben, he immediately put me at ease. He listened to my specific production needs and worked with me on the budget to find a solution. He could not have been more accommodating at what I considered to be the 11th hour! He definitely understood the type of shoot we were doing and the logistics of the space and sent his crew supplied with what he though would work for the shoot. I couldn't have been happier with his crew. His guys came ready, experienced and worked perfectly in sync with each other. I had a great experience! Now if I could get them to come out to LA...

Malone Media brought their film crew and covered all presentations for us. Their professionalism was evident. We had architects and designers from eight countries--not to mention clients in attendance. Malone's crew went almost unnoticed and even with constant schedule changes and adjustments in presentations managed to roll with it all and not miss a moment. Now, the best part, Malone Media finalized all of the videos with titles and even integrated slides from the presentation within one month of the conference end, including edits to drafts. So, the search began and I came across Guy's website. I simply loved his work and it was exactly the style I had in mind. Immediately I sent in an inquiry and refreshed my email about a million times. Being the obsessive compulsive gal I am, after not hearing back from him for all of five minutes I decided I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket and should really look around and get other quotes. And I did. Umm... $4-5k for a 1 minute video? Are you insane unnamed production company in Evanston? No thank you. The other quotes I got were more to make myself go through the motions. I find it strange how people that work in media don't know the importance of updating their website and putting up work that doesn't look like it's from the 80s. Refresh a few more times and alas! An email from my first pick! Guy and I set up an intro call and I described exactly what I wanted and we both threw out some ideas that got incorporated into the final product. And I was so glad to hear that he thought the $4-5k quote was just as ridiculous as I had thought it was. He also mentioned he was teaching a class in just a few days (which I attended). I'm so camera shy and thought that would be a great way to see how I would respond to his personality, so that was the main reason I went. I'm so glad I did because at the class I ended learning some great tricks that I made sure I did in preparation for our shooting day the following week. One of them was to have fresh flowers around for the interview portion to help bring some natural softness to the scene (genius... I never would have thought it would have made such a difference). Long story short, his really laid back personality during the class made it a no-brainer that I wanted him to do my video. The day of the shoot, he was right on time and ready to go (and was really patient when I needed a few extra minutes). The filming went super smoothly and I was as relaxed as I could have been all thanks to Guy. And today I got my final video and just LOVE the end result. It was short and sweet, straight to the point, and the addition of bloopers at the end really made it more light-hearted. Brilliant. If you're looking for a professional, Guy is your man.
