When you arrive in Grosmont in the middle of a typical English summers day (it was pouring with rain) what you really need is something warm and comforting and the Hazelwood Tea Rooms is fairly close.
There was quite a crowd of us including young children and not so young people in wheelchairs and the first thing I noticed was that it's not over accessible for wheelchairs (couldn't have got in without extra hands to push, pull and lift). the staff and the proprietor were extremely welcoming and pleasant and, even though they were closing while we were still there we didn't feel rushed.
I found the menu a little expensive although portions of cake etc were big enough (and rich enough) to share. A few of our party, in need of comfort in their tummy, ordered pie and peas and were dismayed to see that the pie came cold. read more
