Plantation General hospital has been open for a very long time. The hospital was old and they decided to close recently. The only part that is open is the ER which is operated by Westside Regional Medical Center a sister facility to HCA Healthcare. The doctors and other staff moved to HCA Florida University Hospital in Davie, FL. I'm writing about my experience in 2020 at the Labor & Delivery ward, when the hospital was still open. My OB had an office nearby and this hospital was affiliated to that office. Checking into the hospital was easy and quick. They assessed my vitals and everything was going good. Only two issues I ran into initially; the nurse was nice but the IV insertion failed because it was in my forearm. Secondly, the doctor on duty had horrible bedside manner; since I wasn't progressing with birth yet, he said, "what do you want to do?" He had Dr. House's demeanor. I was in immense pain and in labor, obviously I wanted to stay! Aside from that, the rest of the staff, birthing experience, and hospital stay was good. I had a much better experience at the new HCA University Hospital in Davie, FL. read more

LONG STORY LONG! My Father In Law (87 years old and frail) was transport here by paramedic's much to my dismay. I begged them to take him to another hospital because of the horrible stories I've heard about this place. They said they couldn't take him anywhere but here because it was the closest. The ER doctor was terrific. My FIL had to be admitted so it's been a couple of days now on the third floor. His nurse, Lisa, is a nightmare. The minute she saw me, she barked at me. He is in isolation and the room he is in has a marked door but when I opened it and she was sitting across the hall and yelled at me not to use that door and told me to go to another door, which I did. I didn't know she was a nurse because she was wearing a long sleeve T-shirt. My Brother In Law was here and stayed with me for a few hours then left. My FIL doesn't need much help because he sleeps a lot but was asking me about his catheter so I walked to the nurses station to ask for his nurse. After quite a while (maybe 15 minutes or half an hour - it's hard to tell since he didn't have the tv on so time goes by slowly) my FIL was asking again about the catheter so I told him to push the nurse button. A few minutes later, Lisa came busting in the door (the door she told me no one was allowed to use) along with a trainee and started yelling at me. She asked why I kept calling and calling so I told her I only asked for her two times and I don't consider that calling and calling. She said she was with another patient and this was not an emergency. I told her to go back to the other patient then and come back later and that we were just wondering about the catheter and his antibiotic. She had a bottle of my FIL's antibiotic in her hand and put it in my face and shook it violently at me. She began screaming at me now and said she was going to have me thrown out of the hospital by security. FOR USING THE CALL BUTTON! REALLY? Isn't that what it is there for? I am 66 years old and 5' tall, she was standing over me like she was going to hit me and I got scared. So, I sat down in the chair and starting texting my husband. I mumbled under my breath "Attitude" and she yelled at me that she doesn't have an attitude. After she left the room, I just started bawling because I was so scared. No one has screamed at me like she did since I was a child and my mom got mad. So, it was very traumatizing to be yelled at like that. I would not recommended anyone coming to this hospital ever. I'm sure most of the nurses are not as mean, rude and scary as this big girl, Lisa, but if they allow her to treat me like that in front of a trainee and no one discourages her then she will do it to you too. Maybe she trained the new girl to yell at her patients too since she got away with yelling at me. I called the hospital to speak to a Patient Advocate but had to leave a message. So, I am waiting to speak to someone about her behavior. Do yourself a favor and find another hospital and avoid being treated like an animal. I would like to take my FIL to another hospital but he is too weak and I don't want to put him through a transport. To let you know another thing...only one person has been in this room all day. I've been here since this morning and now it is 5:30 PM. One girl came in to bring his lunch and to take his vitals. I asked her for a toothbrush and toothpaste for him and she acted like she was going to bring it to him but that's been hours ago and no toothbrush or toothpaste yet. I'm afraid to go to the nurses station to ask for it but I guess I have to. Either that or wait until tomorrow to bring it from home. I see from other reviews that Lisa is an incompetent nurse. She treats all of her patients with rude behavior. If you get Lisa as a nurse, demand a different nurse or else your loved one will be treated with disrespect and you will be lucky if she even shows up to help. This happened a little while ago. Someone was supposed to call me after they spoke to Lisa but of course, no one ever did. That tells me how important it is to the entire hospital. They allow their nurses to mistreat their patients and their family. I will NEVER bring my family to this hell hole! George has passed away. read more

If I could give this place a one star, I would the worst hospital ever they had me and my mom waiting in the waiting room while in severe abdominal pain for 3hrs . Don't go here please if you can with hold the pain and drive else where please do. Also the Jamaican security is very rude and unprofessional. read more

We came at 10'pm on a Sunday. This isn't my usual hospital or ER to come to, but since moving to Tamarac, I haven't needed an ER. Anyways, we got there, parking was available up front. Easy to discern where the ER was. We were checked in within a couple minutes and went for check in and vitals immediately. From there, less than 5 minutes and we were called back to a bed. The nurses were quick and efficient. Spoke with a doc within the first 15 minutes, and then it was only waiting for lab results. After the doc came by, we received some meds to quell the pain and handle the symptoms...my daughter was feeling relief by the time we left. Before we left, actually. We were checked out and had our scripts in hand and ready to roll out The entire team on shift in the ER gave us 5 Star treatment. We are truly grateful. Every time I am at this hospital to deliver my baby I am so impressed. It is such a family like atmosphere, and all of the staff is so incredibly warm and attentive. Jessica was my labor and delivery nurse this time, and she was amazing ! I was sad for her to move on to her next patient until my nurse Sophia came in and was so wonderful herself! I appreciate these ladies so much and the work they put into making me so comfortable for my stay during my 4th c-section. It is clear that they were meant to do this. My husband and I checked into the maternity ward on 2/3 and gave birth on 2/4 and despite a slight hiccup in the beginning our experience was by far the best all because of the nurses we had after. This was my first pregnancy and didn't know what to expect and they made me feel comfortable for the 19+hours I was in labor. The night crew are awesome. I would like to send special thank yous to Rachelle, Janelle, Andrene and Mafunde (I hope I spelt her name correctly ). God bless you ladies. My wife and I were fortunate enough to deliver our beautiful and healthy baby boy yesterday. The whole experience was wonderful! The labor and delivery staff were amazing!!! From our mid wife Michelle, to our nurse Laura, to the charge nurse Fran. They made the delivery funny, personal, and all around enjoyable for us all! Even the anaesthesiologist had us laughing through contractions. Postpartum was also enjoyable, our first nurse Brittnay was so warm and caring. Checked in on my wife often, assessing her for pain and comfort. Later in our stay my wife had some concerns that were quickly addressed by management allowing my wife to feel comfortable and heard again. Further improving her stay. We both would recommend PGH to our two expecting friends, and would our selves come back... If we were crazy enough to have a 3rd!! read more

My wife and I should've given a 5 star review for the first time we came to this hospital but unfortunately it was because she had a miscarriage. Everyone was so helpful and caring and very sympathetic to our situation. When we thought about trying again one of the comforts we had was how comfortable we were with the staff and treatment. Now a year later my wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy and from the security staff to the cafeteria personal, everyone and I mean EVERYONE was exceptional. Way above and beyond. All the nurses and doctors who tended to us were amazing. Even the person taking the food orders and delivering the food was awesome and personable. Couldn't ask for a better experience. I wish I had the means to give back to everyone who interacted with us. Thank you so much. read more

Here we are a year later and I have steered clear of this hospital. I had a background check done for foster care, and the doctor from Plantation General reported me for child neglect. Of course everything was checked out because my son went to a better hospital that day and was cleared. I should have filed a lawsuit with them to begin with. Now there is something on my background because I protected my son from their fraudulent treatments?! This place needs to be shut down. Avoid this hospital if possible. First time I walk in. My 3 year olds face was swelling and two young black males at the front desk gave me attitude about being on the wrong side of the hospital. What a burden I must've been on them to have to walk me around..I literally told them, don't worry I'll get back in my car and drive around. At ER there is metal detectors, hookers & all kinds of questionable characters a child shouldn't see. This review is not at all about the nurses or doctors. I have been to this hospital far more times than I can even remember. I must divulge that I have a family member that works here, but I have been here too many times for everyone to have just been on their best behavior. I have a chronic condition that has landed me in the hospital over and over- and all over the world unfortunately. At this particular hospital I also had my baby here, and have brought my baby to their pediatric section, so I have seen 3 major parts of this hospital. ER: Each and every time I have been taken in quickly, and have had the best experience out of any other hospital, and sadly I have been to many. The nurses are extremely compassionate and the doctors are very knowledgeable. I have had many different tests done and from the specialist who worked with me to the maintenance personnel who helped me get around everyone was extremely friendly. I have definitely had times when I have been very tired of being poked and prodded. This is a very large ER. A couple of private rooms with televisions. Once when my husband broke gist ankle we were in an overflow section, but it wasn't too bad. ~The pediatric ER is stellar. My baby was wheezing. We were in immediately and got a breathing treatment. Baby was immediately better. The Dr. was very comforting and caring. Maternity: So prior to baby`s arrival I was in the hospital on bedrest. Very boring, because you literally cannot get out of bed but super clean and fantastic food. Each nurse was exceptional, especially the night and weekend nurses. Just before baby arrived, we returned with many bags! We were there much earlier than needed, but the waiting rooms were comfortable enough. When baby arrived, all nurses were stellar and we really liked the hospital's pediatricians. The room was beautiful. The maternity ward has been completely renovated. The shower was obviously not the same as at home, but very clean and hot. read more

This review is soooooo long overdue but I had such a great experience that I would not be able to sleep at night if didn't finally do this review. I delivered my first baby at plantation general in November of 2020 during a panorama aka a pandemic lol. The nurses at labor and delivery went ABOVE & BEYOND to make my experience of delivering my first child an amazing one. Every nurse was kind, attentive and caring. After my delivery, I stayed on the maternity floor for 3 days and again, the staff went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure that me, my husband and my new baby were very well taken care of. The night nurse watched the baby so we could get some sleep the first night and we did not feel guilty about it lol. Everyone was so kind, we just knew our baby was in good hands. Even the young lady who delivered the food to the room had a great attitude. The room were spacious and was always kept clean, which we really appreciated. I had the privilege of having both of my children at this hospital and each time the experience has been top notch! I had my daughter in 2017 and most recently my son on Dec 1, 2020. I was extremely nervous about having to deliver a baby during this crazy time of covid, but I had a flawless experience and God sent me the same nurse - angel twice!!! Karine (who I absolutely love) is an amazing nurse and wonderful human being. So attentive, carrying and kind, the odds of me getting her for both deliveries was nothing short of a miracle. In fact, this hospital is filled with amazing nurses and staff, all the way down to the people that deliver your meals. I encountered sooo many beautiful people I can't list them all!!! In addition, the delivery and recovery rooms were so clean, I could have been in a hotel besides the fact that someone came in what felt like every 30 minutes, but that's how super attentive they are!!! I can't say THANK YOU enough to all the staff at Plantation General Hospital who took such great care of me and my little ones, you all truly exemplify what being great doctors, nurses and people is all about. I would definitely recommend this hospital for anyone that is seeking a 5-star delivery experience!! read more

I was contacted by staff and they were considerate and seemed to take the situation seriously. They could not divulge any details about what they did to address charge nurse Pearline Hill's behavior, but with the exception of her angrily kicking us out despite my boyfriend's serious need of medical care, I would give this hospital a good rating. All other nurses and doctors were professional, and would respond to our requests and questions as soon as they could. read more

I recently had major surgery and spent four days at this facility. I must say that I have been treated at some of the top hospitals in Philadelphia and this was my first time being hospitalized in Florida. All of the nurses and staff took such amazing care of me. Besides the care, there was compassion and sensitivity. My favorite nurse, Erica A , took such excellent care of me which made the hospital stay tolerable. PGH is lucky to have such a gem of a nurse in Erica. Cassandra from Food Services, is such a sweet heart. She took care of my special diet needs.I've never seen such a delightful staff member, another gem. You will be in the best of hands at PGH. Excellent facility. read more

Update: they just called me to come in and be with my husband and as I'm checking in I asked him if I go to the door and he says I'm giving you the directions you need to wait. Unbelievable. We were driving through not from town and needed a hospital to stop at for my friend who had sun poisoning. When we walked in, there was no receptionist just an EXTREMELY rude security guard who was absolutely no help and was on his cell phone looking at pictures. My friend was feeling like she was going to throw up and so I went to the women's bathroom to get her a paper towel with cold water but the dispenser wasn't working. So I went into the men's room to get one and when I got out he yelled at m and had absolute zero sympathy for her. Such a horrible experience. read more

Thank you for your honesty I had an accident I ripped open the skin on my leg and my other foot is swollen I've been here before because my surgeon is affiliated now for sure I will go to Weston even if I have to use a different surgeon i have to say the OR staff are wonderful unfortunately I do have to be evaluated in the ER and this scares me because just removing my bandage is going to be so painful they'll probably just tare it off and they won't give me anything to relieve the pain i'm a 65-year-old woman believe me I'm not looking for drugs but the way you explained it and I the neighborhood it appears they look at everyone as an addict.wanting drugs. My colleagues and I went to the Pediatrics Unit today to pass out goody bags to the sick children while dressed in costume. I would like to thank Vanessa and the department for allowing us the opportunity to do this. It's actually our second year! Being able to put smiles on sick children's faces is priceless! My spouse was Baker Act and sent to this Hospital. He suffers from Dementia. This Hospital is NOT equipped for Dementia Patients so therefore they are placed in a Mental Ward. They also transferred my husband to another Mental Facility and never bothered to inform the family. We just happened to appear for a visit to find out my husband was no longer there.... No one could not provide answers. My daughter had to track him down by calling several hospitals. SO do yourself a favor and your LOVE ONE and AVOID this Chaos Of a Hospital. read more

We took my 6 year old son to the ER Friday night because he was suffering so badly from the flu. He needed an IV for fluids and to get some blood work and x-rays done. He was so scared and super difficult, refusing to get the IV. Our nurses Andrea and Jesse were AMAZING! They were so patient, kind, understanding, and sweet to my son. It took a lot of work but they got that IV in and took good care of my sick boy. I am so thankful they were our nurses. read more

I took my fiancé into PGH last night because he had contracted a stomach virus that I had been treated for the day before. He was in the waiting room puking and the young man working at the desk is on his cellphone. He went to ask for another sickness bag, as the one he had contained contagious vomit, and the guy working the desk had him throw it in the regular old trash can!!! I hope no one else gets sick due to this dude's complete LAZINESS. Sorry that we asked you to interrupt your Facebook time to do your job, man. Just heard a new man at the desk, a security guard, completely talking trash about a patient at the hospital. "Well I just got up here and you need to have a pass to go in there." After she explained that she had been in the room all night. And after she walked away to get her keys he said, loudly, to woman working the desk , "you picked the wrong person to yell at, I've been up since 6:00am!" And "I don't have a crystal ball, I don't know how long you've been here" ABSOLUTELY RUDE and some of the WORST behavior I've ever seen of hospital staff. My fiancé eventually went in and when the doors opened you could see people EVERYWHERE...sitting on the floor, hooked up to IVs in chairs, some had been sitting there for several hours without being seen! My fiancé had a panic attack and bolted out of the room, as he was still vomiting and already has some claustrophobia issues. He ran out and no one offered to help me pick him up to bring him inside! Instead they insulted both of us, saying that it's his fault that he had not been seen yet (he had been in the back for well over an hour before he couldn't take it anymore) and that I needed to calm down, and that I wouldn't be allowed to be with him when they treated him. The words of the AWFUL nurse were "she doesn't go in under any circumstances, and he doesn't come out". They tried to give him a tranquilizer against his will and he bolted again. I picked him up, carried him to my car and took him to another hospital where he was hospitalized for over 12 hours due to a contagious stomach virus. I saw the nurses, the doctor, and the security officers berate, insult, and mistreat patients and their families. I have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will be reaching out the media. I was absolutely shocked and appalled by what I saw here last night, and the public needs to be aware of what happens here. read more

I love this place, because all 3 of my kids were born here. I was here recently because my wife had surgery, and overall the facility and treatment and care is top notch. The rooms are nice, and recently renovated. The cafeteria is decent, and the food options for patients is pretty good. Overall, sucks having to be here under the circumstances, but they do treat you well. Wife recovered and went home happy. read more

My daughter had surgery in the Out-patient department. We had a really positive experience. From the first contact, Donna was professional and friendly. On arrival at the hospital we were checked in quickly and efficiently. The nursing staff in the unit were awesome. Bernadette put up the IV in record time. She was caring, friendly and so gentle that my daughter didn't even realize the IV was already up. Alanna, our Transporter, took us through to theater and back and helped us to our car after the procedure. She is so kind and caring. Jerome and Becky looked after my daughter in theater and recovery and kept us updated and informed and made sure all our needs were taken care of. My only recommendation would be to have valet parking as it was difficult to find a parking spot. read more

The hospital is fine, but employees are very dumb. We tried pre paying our bill and they are making it almost impossible. I have now made over 10 calls trying to reach someone who can help me. I have been on hold for 30 minutes, then transferred to a hospital in California??, another woman said she would call me back, never called me back! If it takes over a week to get your bill paid, I can't imagine what a nightmare giving birth and dealing with paperwork after will be like. Switch hospitals if you can! read more

My sister recently delivered her baby at Plantation hospital . I think overall was an ok experience. But i really think that PGH should strive to be better. Having a baby is the most important monent of your life. I felt many of the nurses were very cold and not welcoming. There were a few nurses that were nice but in my opinion Other hospitals like Memorial West and Miramar have better trained labor nurses. read more
