I have been going to this shop since the early '70's. It has always been one of my favorite, most put together head shops in Portland. Well not anymore...It's a bunch of hoarded junk. The person there could care less. He tried to sell me a small rolling machine for $8.99. I went to Tobacco Town #1 and paid $2.85 for one. Talk about gouging. I will never return, and I feel like a part of my youth is gone. Boxes just thrown askew. This used to be a very well put together shop. I wished they just would have gone out of business- and turned it into a shady Plaid Pantry. Tobacco town is my go to now. read more

I was 17 years old when my new husband and I moved to an apartment complex on 125th and division. We didn't have a car so we walked or bussed everywhere. More than once we would wonder into Head East and we never had any money to spend on (at that time illegal) paraphernalia. Head East was the premier head shop in the 80s. When I went in to the shop today I was so disappointed. It was ice cold in there. It was so cold. I had to leave the store. It just wasn't what it used to be and it was very sad. I don't ever wanna shop there again. The fact that the store was so incredibly cold while I was in there was terrible. The person you had working was bundled in a sweatshirt and a parka you know he had a sweatshirt hoodie on so we had to head on. It was terrible. I spent all day looking at glass shops in SE and the last stop I made was here. They were having an Easter sale and I drew a 25% off coupon from the egg basket. So I received that amount off my entire purchase. I had intended to buy something small and inexpensive, but I was pointed to a shelf of pieces on clearance near the register. The pieces were very nice, custom, and stylish. So I walked out with an amazing piece for $75 which would have normally cost $150 to $200 at any other store I had visited that afternoon. The staff members are adorable and friendly. They know their products and sizes. They have a crazy selection of pieces and accessories for all styles, shapes and sizes. Hookah, water pipes, steamrollers, bubblers, percs, you name it they have it. If you are looking for something new then shop around, but make sure you come here to compare before you buy. read more

ive loved this place for years, and a regular customer for about a yr. I dont vape but my sister does. the last 7 months EVERYTIME we go in they are out of the vape juice she uses, and today they had ZERO vapes kits for sale. Its very close and the people are very friendly. But you have to keep product to sell! They tell you they ordered, and takes 3 weeks to hear from them. Cool nicnacky bullshit. Really shitty customer service. Piece selection is good. Good not great. But what about how you treat customers? I went in three days ago and spent about 50$ or so and looked around and had a good experience. I left after using my card to pay and after I walked out the door, (blizzard type wind before the snowstorm this week ) and realized 10 min later in the car that my wallet wasn't there..I drove back and asked if they had seen it, and did a walk through and looked around the store. I returned AGAIN the next day & LET ME IN TO THE STORE WITHOUT AN ID mind you...They helped me look for my wallet, which was cool.. and even checked the security cameras to make sure I wasn't captured setting it down somewhere. Inconclusive. So two more days roll by, and i call them to see if they have any new info or if it turned up.. the woman I spoke to on the phone goes, " oh hey! Yes I'm looking st your wallet right now! It's a generic black wallet with a sticky note with your name and number on it !". My heart fell through my asshole, given the fact that I'm from out of state and Having to replace these things is going to be a nightmare at best. I told her " I'm coming right now. Don't leave it anywhere please!!". She then responded, " oh wait nevermind that's my coworkers wallet... don't bother coming in". I was in disbelief and hung up in a rage. Came back the next day because something didn't seem right at this point.. you could see why I would think maybe they had it and weren't giving it back to me for whatever reason. . So I come back and it's 3 new staff behind the counter.. different from who was there when I lost my wallet. The woman rudely asks for my ID. I give her an envelope with my birth certificate, social security card, car insurance and registration, 2 bills with my name and my barbers license and explain what happened about my wallet. I was met with suspicious stares and the woman basically insisted I had photo Id to be in the building at all. I had just been here after losing my wallet, which happened outside or potentially inside there business and now they want to refuse me service? I not only came there to investigate the weird phone call I had the night prior but to also ironically buy a cheapo colorful Native American wallet I saw the first time I was in. I said , " I'm just buying a wallet not even buying anything smoke related and 4 of your staff members know who I am and can verify my identity. Not to mention I have like 8 different forms of identification right here. ". Again met with suspicious stares and here I am assed out, with no wallet, debit card, insurance card ect. This place can get off its high horse and more importantly go fuck themselves. This is not how you do business. Go down the street to all stop pipes and tobacco. Preferably the Gresham location. I just want to start this review by saying that ive been coming to Head East since I was a kid! My hippie father would bring me along on his trips here, and id gaze at the tapestries and absorb the lovely smells- it definitely left a positive impression. My trips here as an adult were just as, if not more positive. I recently bought a vape at head east that had some manufacturing glitches that I was unaware of, and within a few days of having it, started to short out. I bought it right before thanksgiving and didn't grab a receipt, and ended up not being able to come in to make a return until a week before xmas. The manager, Summer, who has been working here since I was a kid, was incredibly helpful with my non receipt return. She knew of the manufacturing difficulties of this specific vape, and exchanged it for me regardless of my not having the receipt. She was so gracious, kind, and the definition of helpful. This interaction and level of genuine customer service is a beautiful illustration of the cultivation of community I like to see! Im giving this place three stars. I would give it four stars except for the absolute worst employee there. I've never been more irritated and disappointed with anyone in my life I am a hookah fanatic, I know everything there is to know about it, so I came in with my friend to buy shisha and coals. I was looking at their exotic flavors and out of nowhere the guy helping us suggsted a 3 dollar box of tobacco and said it was amazing. He made fun of me and mocked me for wanting to buy quality shosha and told me that it was a waste of money and said that I was a snob. I asked for a can of white peach shosha that I could see from were I was standing. The guy (who had already told us that he was high as a kite, how unprofessional!) Looked for it and then apologized saying that they were out. I asked the lady working to grab it for me and she found it sitting in plain sight, the guy was obviously too stoned to see anything clearly. He openly made fun of me in front of my friend I was with and was mocking me the entire time. Then he stArted to talk about smoking weed out of hookahs, which im sorry, but you work at a place, you shouldn't be talking about drugs on the clock. To sum it up, if it wasn't for this completely uninformed and idiotic employee then it would get a much deserved four star review, but customer service is what makes a business and that's the area in which head east is sorely lacking. read more

Trying a new brand today I'll check in later and tell u how good it (kratom) was and what brand. ok, so the kratom I bought was the Urban Ice Organics Green Malay #75 for $52.00 and if you have a high tolerance like me then skip it! CRAZY WEAK!!! I'm a little irritated but lesson learned. I still like the store and the sales people have been helpful every time I've called. ***update: ran into employee that helped me after my disappointing experience with the Urban Ice capsules and he still felt bad. I have since discovered that their bulk Kratom is pretty awesome. Overpriced low quality glass. Product I bought broke in less than 2 days and was told that they couldn't stand behind their glass at all. Could have got a sweet 20% of replacing it if I wanted but nothing else. Customer service is also forgetful, was told they ordered a banger and would call but never received any call and the staff had never actually ordered it when I followed up. This place sells snake oil when it comes to those synthetic urine test things. I purchased this stuff called Instant Heating Antiseptic from Atomic Kenetics. The salesmen lied to me and said it had uric acid in it and was 98% effective. They said if it doesn't work then i merely go to the website of the manufacturer. Well I followed every step and failed the test. There was no uric acid in the kit... I did that and the website is a piece of shit just like the salesmen. It only has options for purchase with no contact information. Don't trust a fucking word these turds have to say about those synthetic urine kits. They are all full of shit and trying to peddle snake oil. Fuck that place. Worst customer service experience of my life and I have ATT wireless.
