I hate getting my hair cut. I have short, thin, damaged hair, and I feel like no hairdresser ever listens to what I tell them. That was all before I met the wonderful Meighan! I moved to Queen Village about a month ago (March 2018), and at that point it had been a while since my last cut. As I said, I hate it, so I usually put it off as long as I can. Weeks went by, and I noticed that when I was blow drying my hair, pieces of breakage were landing all over my clothes and floor. This was a sign that I couldn't wait any longer. I googled "salons near me" and this place came up. I poked through their website and saw that it was a hip, stylish place with decent prices (maybe a little pricey, but I'm from Boston, so they didn't seem bad in comparison). So, I called the place up on a Thursday morning and asked if there was any chance I could schedule a day-of appointment. The woman I spoke with was very nice and professional. And, best of all, she found me an appointment for 1pm that day, just was I was hoping for. The salon is about a 10 minute walk from where I live, and I found it very easily, which is always a plus. I took the elevator up to the third floor, where the doors opened to a super cute, trendy waiting area and a big open space of stations. I was greeted by a friendly hello and an offer for any coffee or water. My eyes then caught a table with snacks and candy, which I thought was a nice touch. I was a few minutes early, so I took a seat on the couch to wait for my hair stylist to take me back to her station. Now is when Meighan introduced herself. She had a relaxed and comforting vibe about her, which is a relieving first impression for someone like me who generally despises a visit to the the salon (it's literally the equivalent of the dentist for me). We chatted about what I wanted to do with my hair, and I gave her some stories about my hair history and the things that make me nervous about getting my hair cut. I was at a point where I was ready to chop the whole thing off because it felt so gross and broken, but we talked it through and she convinced me to do a "transition cut" so that I can let my hair do its thing and then do something edgy and different once it's in better health. I am so glad I listened to her -- She knew what she was talking about and she did an awesome job. I was afraid that a transition cut was a code word for "this is going to look awful for a few weeks, but it will grow out." That wasn't the case at all. I now have a super cute little bob that will be great for the coming seasons. A few extra perks: Rachel shampooed and conditioned my hair, and she also gave me an awesome scalp/neck massage. Even though it was short, it was so relaxing and just what I needed after a long week! I love when people know what they're doing when they wash your hair. You gotta use some elbow grease! Meighan also offered a conditioning treatment that worked wonders for my hair. My hair has never felt so soft! She also gave me tips on how to style my hair and what to use to protect it. I can use all the pointers I can get! Totally recommend checking out this salon's services. Meighan will definitely be my new hair stylist for the foreseeable future. I was very fortunate to be booked with Morgan the next day. Yes, she had a rare cancellation on a Saturday, thank God! I was not sure what to do with my hair, as I was not prepared for a short cut, but needed desperately to fix this mess! After a few minutes discussing my hair and showing her photos, we agreed to take it step by step and basically shape the cut, making sense of the crazy layering. Morgan did a wonderful job, the cut is soft, and the layers blend! ( What a concept, right???) What can I say other than Delia is a brow magician. She has single handedly changed my life! After YEARS of plucking & waxing when thin brows were a thing, all hair growth had come to a halt. I spent years drawing and shading in a brow. I was totally self conscious of my brow line and would never leave my house without drawing them on. I RARELY let my boyfriend see them just natural. It was completely exhausting and every morning I dreaded drawing a brow. I would spend almost 20 minutes on my brow alone standing in front of the mirror critiquing every time I touched them with a pencil. I would also worry that I would use up my pencil and would not have enough to draw my brow. Every day it was an internal battle. Going in to a pool or the ocean would literally make me sick because I knew the brow I just drew on would wash away. It sounds silly but this was my life. Until one day my friend Meighan who owns Headhouse, knowing how much torture it put me through, told me that Delia was becoming certified in Microblading and that I would totally benefit from it. I was instantly on board!! She didn't have to say another word. My 1st session was in March and Delia meets with you and ask you a few questions about how you currently draw on your brow, what you would like your brow to look like and then she works her magic! She walks you through each step in the process so that you are comfortable. After the 1st session, it was a total transformation!! I had brows!! I received so many compliments and I just felt good about myself. I no longer was self conscious or had brow envy. The 2nd session is scheduled about 6 weeks after and Delia does any touch ups that are needed, makes sure you are happy with the color and the brow itself and that's it! I have wild, wavy "mind-of-its-own" hair and I am about as low-maintenance as one can get. When the mane gets what I have dubbed "lionesque" and the ends take on the texture of hay, I schedule my once-a-year cut wherever the latest Groupon decides to send me. Headhouse Salon was this year's lucky winner of the frizz pile. I asked the Lord to have mercy on the poor soul chosen to tackle it. After checking out the reviews, I picked Christopher, and he was PHE-NO-MENAL! (Cue En Vogue's harmony: "What A Man, What A Man, What A Man, What A Mighty Good Man" ...) Despite his young age -- so young, he probably has not the slightest clue who En Vogue is -- he handled my hair like a seasoned expert, even taking on the extreme challenge of blow-drying it (which HAS frustrated myriad hairstylists in the past, to the point of tears at times). He has a keen eye for detail and did not let me leave, even post blow-dry, until he made sure there was no straggling tress he had missed. Also, he was VERY sweet and unpretentious, so I felt at ease in his chair. I'll be returning to him for sure. Sooo...this is my very first yelp review ever. Please forgive me if my yelp etiquette is sub par. But I have never been inspired to write a review as much as I have tonight, after Morgan has given me the most amazing new look. About two weeks ago I came to headhouse salon because it's in my neighborhood and has a great rep. My hair was long and boring and I needed a change. Morgan cut my hair to a medium long shoulder length with an edgy cut and layers that she styled to perfection. Unfortunately, my skills with styling could not replicate her look and I was a little bummed. I called back to see if she had any tips or suggestions and was welcomed back without question. She did some touches that made the cut perfect for my lack of styling skills. Minimal work needed for an awesome look. She wanted to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and I appreciated that so much. I came back tonight for highlights and she created an even more amazing look than I ever could have ever thought up in my head. The highlights are blended to perfection. The color is perfect and compliments my natural brown. I can't wait to continue working with her from here on out. Btw, did I mention she is super cool and extremely personable and friendly? Overall I would rate my haircut & color as OK. Color 4 stars, cut 2 stars. My hair was 4 inches past my shoulders & heavily high-lighted blonde. I wanted to get as close to my natural color as I could. My natural color is a dark ash blonde -most people think it's a light brown color. 1st Morgan went over my high-lights (she suggested I keep some of the high-lights around my face so the color around my face would still have brightness to it she also said I may view my hair as drab if I did the same color all over, I agreed. The hair color they use is great it barely has any odor to it. Next she colored the rest of my hair with the dark blonde color. I sat for 20 minutes while it processed. Then I got washed - which felt more like a relaxing massage. We discussed my haircut next. I brought a picture of a lob cut Jennifer Anistan had that I wanted. Lob = a long bob. Morgan told me she'd cut my hair and it would be at my collar bone & she'd take 3 inches off the back of my hair. I agreed to this length. She cut my entire head with a razor. (This was the 1st time a stylist cut my hair using this technique). Finally she blow dried and styled my hair. My longest layer hits at the base of my neck and the shortest layer is nearly at my chin. I am not happy b/c it's too short! She did not cut my hair to the length she said she would. The bottom of my hair is thin & choppy. (I specifially said I don't want choppy or whispy) I am happy with the color the cut uhhh! It will take a good 6 months for it to get to the length it was suppose to be. I would not go back for the simple fact that I did not get the cut we discussed. I still tipped $40. People tell me my hair looks cute, not what I was going for at 33 years old. I have to use headbands to get my hair out of my face b/c when I try to pull it back at the base ofmy neck in a pony tail it sticks straight and looks odd. read more

Sometimes it takes weeks or months to book an appointment, but when I called Headhouse Salon, they fit me in right away. I was paired with Rachel for a highlight and cut. She did a GREAT job and I love my highlights. Probably the best I've had since I moved back to the area over 2 years ago. She was very friendly (not always the case when you are using a coupon) and knowledgeable about how to tame my extremely thick and wavy hair. I would highly recommend her! From the very minute you get in the elevator you know you're going to be in for a treat. I love my experience here. Let's start with the space that the Headhouse is situated in-- exposed brick walls, raw wood beams on the ceiling, open french doors, spacious and clean work spaces. It makes me want to not only want to get my haircut, but it makes me want to live here. Very welcoming staff; I love hair salons that greet you and follow that friendly gesture with the magical words "would you like tea or coffee?" My appointment was with Meagan, she was attentive and took everything I wanted into consideration-- I came in with a wishlist of 4-5 things I wanted done from long layers, maybe side bangs, maybe ombre/partial highlights, clearly I explained that I did not want my highlights/dye job to look trashy and overly blonde. We opted with face framing long layers with peekaboo highlights. The appointment lasted 2.5 hours, and it was time well spent. Meagan is fabulous, so nice and considerate; she took the time to explain what she was doing. I felt like I was in safe hands with her-- and I never trust people with my hair! Needless to say I was beaming from ear to ear when I left! I had been to Headhouse previously (microblading with Delia is amazing, color with Meghan, which didn't WOW me), but after today's color correction I highly recommend Ashley. I came in after a disastrous color experience in Miami (old pic posted), and Ashley transformed me back into a bright, blended and beautifully-toned blonde. She was super understanding, attentive, and really paid attention to not damage my hair. Even though we could've gone way blonder, she was honest with me and said she'll lift the color as much as she could, but that it would still be slightly warm. Oh Christopher. I previously had a fabulous hair stylist - customer relationship with Christopher at another salon (the every 8 week type). My hair cuts were nothing short of amazing each and every time; however, when I found out he switched salons - well, I wasn't sold on the idea. 10 months and only 2 not amazing hair cuts later which left my hair blah and boring ..... I made an appointment. Despite the fact that was an outright cheater, Christopher fixed my tresses and let me give him like 4 hugs. I will never stray again. You too could have a good hair day every day. As for the salon, well - it's beautiful, bright, airy, lots of space - you definitely do not feel cramped or crowded. I went to Headhouse based off their yelp reviews. The salon is very nice & clean and everyone was very friendly. I am not 100% thrilled with the stylist I had or my cut, however I saw other people walking out looking fab-u-lous! The stylist tried to talk me into a "LOB" AKA "A long bob" which was the style she was sporting. I said I just wanted it shorter than it was (it was really long), but all one length. I told her specifically my main concern was that I work out A LOT and need to be able to pull it all back into a pony tail with no bobby pins to tame down layers and such. I wanted something simple. My mistake was that I said I was going out that night so after she finished my cut, she curled my hair. I didn't know until I washed out the curls the next day that she gave me some sort of a "LOB" (which I said i didn't want) ....the front is about an inch longer than the back... I'm not even sure what you call it. There are also random layers that need to be pinned down and pop out of my pony tail while at the gym. After letting it grow out for a few weeks, and going to another stylist, I was told the cut was just awful and that I should never go back there. They attempted to fix it, but also advised me to let it grow out some more since I don't want it any shorter. read more

After years going to the same salon in the suburbs, even after living in the city, I finally tried Headhouse Salon. The first thing that attracted me was that the salon is situated literally half a block from my house. But after getting my hair cut and colored by Morgan, I was sold. She was not only friendly, but great at what she does. I went back several times for cuts and color and my hair has been looking great! I got married in April of this year, and decided to have my bridal party, mom, and me, get our hair and makeup done at Headhouse. I had a trial -- makeup by Jade, and hair by Morgan -- and loved it. That only made me feel more confident about having my girls go there to prep for my wedding, because you never know what you're going to get when you have your makeup done... we've all had bad experiences! Welp, I found my new salon! I just left Headhouse Salon after getting partial highlights, toner, a trim, and blowout with Morgan! She is awesome and so sweet! I came here after having a bad dye job at another local salon and she truly fixed it! The salon is on the third floor, so the entrance on street level is an elevator door that takes you right up. You step out into a loft with exposed beams and cool, clean decor! The front desk staff was very nice and welcoming. I was offered water, tea, or coffee right away and they hung my coat up. The shampooist, Danielle, did a great job. My hair knots very easily and when I warned her of this, she treated it very gently! My hair looks fantastic! Exactly what I wanted and I left feeling so proud of my new 'do! I would absolutely recommend Morgan and this salon to anyone and I can't wait to go back! As a first time client, I received 20% off my bill, which totaled $185 before the discount. (Well worth the price!) I had been going to Marti for about 2 years when she was working at Luna. When she relocated, I decided to go somewhere in my neighborhood since I live nowhere near Queen Village. Well I made a huge mistake and got a terrible haircut! Marti passed no judgment on me for my mistake and betrayal - instead she gave me a fantastic haircut! She gave me the exact haircut I wanted, and took the time to make sure every strand of hair was perfect. I have curly/wavy hair that isn't very thick, so in the past I've had people give me wayyyyy to many layers. This may work for other ladies with curly hair but it does not work for me. Marti listens to me when I ask for what I want, but she also understands my hair type and takes the time to ensure that I leave with a cut that works perfectly with my hair. In fact, my hair often looks even better than I could imagine! The salon itself is beautiful and bright and a fantastic space. Apparently there are even mimosas on Saturdays, so I'm looking forward to taking advantage of that for my next appointment! The product line they use there smells great, although I haven't purchased any yet to try out for myself. I just had my first visit to the salon yesterday and am very happy with my haircut! I had been going to same hairdresser for probably 6 years or so, so I was nervous about looking for someone new. But when I moved to philly I knew I had to just find someone. I read the reviews for this salon, and it's in my neighborhood, so I thought I'd give it a try. Ashley was my stylist, and she did a great job. When I get a haircut, I like to default to letting the stylist make decisions about what to do. I tell them a general length and what I DON'T want and them let them take it from there. I don't think I'm the best judge of what will look good for my face shape, and I'm not the professional, so I let them run with it. I told Ashley to go for what she thought would look good. She didn't let me down! The salon was so beautiful. It was open and bright. Everyone was nice, and they offered me water, coffee, or tea. At first I declined but I was really warm from having a mimosa before my appointment, ha, so I asked for a glass of water. I appreciate those little touches because, damn, getting your hair done can take forever. Because I was a new client, I got 20% off! I was glad because it was more expensive than I expected. I guess I'm ok with paying higher prices than I'm used to because I know this city is more expensive than where I was before. Also, I like nice hair salons, so whatever. Finding a new salon after moving to a new city is always a nerve-wracking experience and often involves trial and error. Luckily I happened upon Headhouse which did well on Yelp and was conveniently located behind my apartment. Fast forward 2+ years and it is my absolute go-to salon! I've never really felt terribly loyal towards a hair salon the way I do here. I always see Meighan who truly makes magic with my cut and color. I feel like I'm not awesome at describing what I want - but she *always* gets it, almost like she reads my mind, also giving me options of what to do so it's a really nice give-and-take. I was there yesterday and talked about branching out with color a little next time and I trust her creative instincts 100%! She's so sweet and wonderful to talk to. Alexis at the front desk is so kind, helpful and so much fun to talk to and always remembers me. Not to mention the salon is a beautiful open space, and they always have amazing snacks and wine, but I would come here even if they didn't! I recently went to Headhouse after purchasing a LivingSocial deal. I'm typically pretty wary of salon deals as a result of previous nightmare experiences (see other review) and since they tend to feature struggling businesses and/or new places that haven't established a reputation. However, around the holidays I got sucked into into buying this one as a result of my "city girl on a budget" lifestyle and need to reel it in when it comes to spending on hair, nails, etc. I'm happy to say that my experience at this salon was AWESOME! Jade was super professional, knowledgeable and cool. She listened to what I wanted and gave me the exact color and cut that we discussed. My blonde hair tends to get brassy and I have weird cowlicks that plague me from childhood. Jade knew exactly how to color and style it so that months later it's still looking fresh and is easy to style. The salon itself was clean and modern and I love that there was parking available on the street out front. Admittedly, I followed my stylist, Chris, to this location, but Headhouse Salon is the real deal. I currently live in NYC and travel down every 6 weeks or so because this place has become my home. I love the lofty vibe of the salon, but aside from the ambiance, all the stylists are artists and do such great work. Chris is the guy you want to ask for (although, everyone else is amazing, I'm sure) - I joked that I would never write a Yelp review about how great he is because I didn't want to make it any harder to get an appt, but he is truly a master of his craft. He does an incredible job with highlights and color and truly makes you feel part of the creative process, which is truly is with him. There are plenty of places to go to in Philadelphia for hair, but honestly, I don't know why you would look any further than Headhouse. Plus - it isn't in Center City, so you can park, which is HUGE. I recently visited Headhouse Salon and Morgan. All I can say is she is fantastic! I moved to the area about a year ago from So Cal where I had the pleasure of going to a very popular colorist/stylist. The past year I have been unhappy with my hair, always just wearing it up. She really is great at her craft. She is sweet, patient, and really listens to what you want. Morgan took what I wanted and used her knowledge to give me the best lived in color and cut that I have had. If you are in the Philly area and looking for a great stylist and a super cool salon I definitely recommend Headhouse and Morgan. I've been coming here consistently now for over 2 years and I gotta tell you guys...not only do they know what they're doing in the hair department, but they're highly considerate of their customers. How so? They called me this past fall when I had a newborn at home to let me know that my stylist was running behind. They then proceeded to ask me what time that afternoon would be convenient for me to come in (since they knew how tough it would be to get out of the house without the baby)! Their receptionist even asked me what time the baby needed to eat so she could schedule me. I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciated this. I have been drifting from salon to salon all over the city and have FINALLY found a home! I never had any bad experiences at the others I just wasn't feeling any were a good fit, and any women knows that the relationship wither her salon and stylist requires a certain level of comfort and trust! My first visit was with a groupon and Meighan was my stylist. I just got a trim , she was great and very easy going and friendly. Our conversations didn't seemed forced, which is is one thing that irritates me about some places. All of the other staff members encountered we super polite and friendly. And all clients seemed happy and look fabulous. I've gone back to her several times to Meighan and just recently got color which I 'm so happy with! The building is really cool and rustic and kept very clean. I think their prices are reasonable, I am willing to pay a little more to get great service. A great place all around, can't think of one negative thing to say, so I highly suggest this salon. read more

I live outside of the city and drove here just to get my hair colored and cut by Christopher. 100% worth it. After a bad dye job at another salon, I found Christopher through Instagram. He definitely has a West Coast/lived-in technique... which I love! I've never had a colorist who was so particular about the pieces of hair he colors. (This is a good thing!) He paid close attention to each strand and I left with a beautifully beachy hair color and cut. The salon itself is chic, modern and clean. Everyone was friendly. I'll definitely be back. read more
