But first off, it's cold up here: so, to take advantage of either of these two excellent options to explore the stunningly beautiful foothills of the Pennines you need to visit it in the summer months. Not much you can do about the weather but to me, it also came out as pretty expensive. £200 for a fairly small but very well equipped two room suite in the main building is, in any out of London location, top end. Add on the £60 per couple for the perfectly enjoyable four course evening menu and £25 for a bottle of wine plus coffees etc. and you're into close to £300 for the night - £250 (with food etc.) if you choose to stay in the high quality but rather motel-like rooms behind the main hotel/pub. And, the guest facilities are limited: apart from a small but well furnished private lounge the only other option is the often very busy bar. Too much? Yes but apart from The Rose & Crown there aren't many alternatives in the area. Would I go back? Difficult the weather is a big factor in Teesdale. Get it right and you'll have a wonderful stay in an idyllic setting get it wrong, and you'll be paying a lot for a cold, rain-soaked time in what's a well appointed but pricy country pub.

I decided to try a bit of each meat they had available, which was beef, chicken and pork. I also had the yorkshire pudding, stuffing balls, baked potatoes and gravy. This was washed down with a pint of John Smith's. Everything was very delicious, and for once in my life, I got stuffed on the first plate. A great deal considering the low price you pay. While you are here, be sure to walk along the beach and check out the shoppes nearby. Seaton Carew is a beautiful town, and the Marine Hotel is the quintessential, English Sea-town experience.

The room was of a vintage style, yet with modern creature comforts so that you're left without wanting. Free WiFi is included in the rate, as well as a breakfast bag to wake up to in the morning. The landlady was really nice and friendly too, which makes a fantastic difference. Recommended!

Wen we arrived we were met by very friendly staff who showed us straight too our rooms. Rooms were pleasant and very clean. Bar prices were reasonably priced with great beer. On the nite was a great llive band on which seems too be every wk. We met the owner russ who was very nice and friendly. We had a great nite ghost hunting with ray who we have met on a number of occassions. He is very frindly and always makes us feel welcome wherever we might be. Decor is still very much along the Irish Pub theme with walls painted with slogans and images of famous celebrities. The drinks are competitively priced and this is a great venue for watching Sky football games with plently of widescreen plasma TVs dotted around the place. The bar meals are good value - plently of 2 eat for £6 deals. This is a great place to go for a quick pint and something to eat in your lucnh hour. Always busy so there is usually a buzz about the place and a good atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and I'm pleased to say all have a good sense of humour. Weekly live music nights get very busy so I would recommend getting there early so you can grab a seat. Late licence at weekends and doors are staffed. Again, get there early as queues can be out of the door.

This is a nice * country house hotel originally built a few hundred years ago. There is an annex…read morewith another 15 rooms which has been added about 20-ish years ago. The original rooms can be large with four-posters available, while the annex is more of a standard hotel room. I've found these rooms to have quite short baths so don't expect to stretch out if you're over 5'2" The hotel has free WiFi but other than the main area it is a bit flaky on reception and drops out quite a bit, cellular signals bounce off the stone too but outside it is a reasonable strength, all rooms have free-view. This is a pleasent hotel to stay in but it is the restaurant that makes it worth the drive when i'm working in the area. Hansards has 2 rosettes and has a fixed price 3 course dinner for about £19 with some suppliments for extras. This is well worth the money and I recommend you take the DBB rate when you book your stay, it works out cheaper. There is no pool or gym here but it would seem out of place if there were. I have given * rating as there is nother really outstanding about this hotel but it is well run with pleasent staff and a good restaurant, what more do you need when your working away from home but they do need to get the reliability of the WiFi sorted out. All of my collegues stay here too so that's a fair recomendation.
