Feeling adventurous, my friend and I decided to go for Lucky Shakes after polishing off our breakfast trays. What a wild ride. Whipped cream, hot fudge, fresh strawberries (see mom? I eat fruit), a donut, and a strawberry milkshake....needless to say, I only had about a third of it before giving up, but what a flavorful third it was. I mentioned to my sister that I thought it was affiliated with Federal in Manchester. She asked one of the staff who told her they're totally independent of each other but that the owner of Tamper helped the guys from Federal set up. This really shows in the decor, atmosphere and menu of both places. We each ordered a flat white. When they arrived they were lovely to look at, and delicious too. My sister ordered the Big Ozzie breakfast, and I ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and halloumi. My dish was really beautifully presented. It came with a sweet chilli cucumber salsa, which is not necessarily something I would have chosen to go with the dish, but worked really well. My sister really enjoyed her breakfast as well. I tried a bit of the sausage patty and the hash brown and they were both delicious, really nicely seasoned. We didn't have any cake as we were fit to burst but there was a huge selection and everything looked lovely. I would definitely return and would recommend.

I am a sucker for decorations in my foam and the coffee didn't taste burnt at all( what a relief, so many places burn their espresso) It was a pretty close walk along the river from where I was staying but I noticed there was plenty of street parking around. When I walked in, I was greeted by really pleasant servers (one was an american, woot!) and they mentioned that they had free wifi (wireless internet) which really saved me! There were lots of tables and some outlets available for laptops. Seems like a good place to get some studying in. I will definitely frequent this place the next time I am in Sheffield.

I opted for a simple croissant and bottle of passionfruit Lemonaid (the only other place I've seen this recently is Ezra & Gil in Manchester, so I didn't want to pass up on the opportunity!) but the savoury food counter is really worth mentioning. There are bowls of salad piled high, sandwiches, and a selection of meats you can add to your selection. Everything looked really vibrant and fresh. My croissant was served warm with butter and jam, which is always a plus in my book. The warmed panatone my colleagues ordered looked - and smelt - delicious also. A really friendly place with bags of personality and warmth. The development of Kelham Island will presumably only be a good thing for them!

We were seated upstairs and our server inquired if any one of us had any dietary restrictions and/or allergies. When we ordered our server made sure to inform us which items could possibly have cross contamination and offered alternatives. We ordered a healthy yoghurt bowl (berry compote, granola, coconut, blueberries, bananas, goji berry and honey), sausage and eggs on a brioche bread and hash browns and the English breakfast and all was absolutely delicious. Throughout the entire time we were there, we were asked if we needed anything else or needed more water, unlike some of the other places we have dined in the area. My sausage sandwich, though basic, was delicious and kept me going for the rest of the day. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and super family friendly. The only issue we had when finding a table for 5 was that there was one man taking up the table we could have had. One man. On his own. Who looked at us various times. When he finally got up and left, we were served quickly. Other families came and went and, due to the comings and goings of the various visitors, noone was actually unable to find somewhere to sit within 10 minutes. With a mighty thirst I ordered a vanilla shake and orange juice. Himself a flat white and cappuccino both expertly made. My shake was tasty enough. As for food I felt a good cleanse was in order so I opted for the smashed avocado on beetroot sour dough bread with poached eggs. Himself had hash browns with sausage and bacon. I exclaimed when mine hit the table ...the portion was huge! The eggs were perfect and grilled tomatoes...the bread was a little difficult to saw through and it just needed some cracked black pepper / seasoning. My partners was perfect with superb ingredients such as thick bacon and tasty sausage. Overall the service was pleasant and everything of good portion I personally would try a different dish next time.

To be shut for any entire month duing the peak holiday season smacks of a place run as a hobby, bank rolled by something or someone else, rather than a business and it's disappointing to see two units in Nether Edge's shopping district empty and unused. I've already seen four sets of people make to go in for breakfast and lunch having made special trips and then leave frustrated and baffled by a decision to close for an entire month from today (31st July 2010). It's very disappointing and will make me think twice about spontaneuously heading there again.

But here it did and the chap who brought my coffee over confirmed it, which was kind. The coffee was good, the ambience laid back and the feeling was of a haven from a bustling street and city. Eventually, I left my regal armchair to get back and on. This café sets a fine standard for competitors to meet.
