Now that I have almost recovered from my post-photo party hangover, I can write my review of my much anticipated and dreaded "photo shoot." I was seriously nervous. I was sure that every wrinkle and double chin would be preserved for posterity along with some cheesy smile that made me look like I sold life insurance from ads in the AARP magazine. Cameras scare the CRAP out of me. I have always taken bad pictures and pictures make me feel bad about myself. But -- I needed a damn picture for my website; my friend/webdesigner insisted. So, based on the nice pictures on his website and the good Yelp reviews and recommendations, I appeared with trepidation at his studio - a bit of a nervous wreck - certain of my coming humiliation. Steve calmly assured me that this was going to be ok. He calmly explained what he would be doing. Somehow, magically, he got me to smile. He got so into his craft, I actually relaxed. The results? Dude has voodoo magic camera mojo. I am serious. I really had no idea how many intricate adjustments of position, lighting, camera settings, computers settings one could use as variables in getting a good shot, but whatever space shuttle he was piloting certainly worked to my advantage. Dude knows what he's doing. When he showed me his results, I almost fell over. They were great pictures. I'm an old lady of 47, but I didn't look like an old lady at all. If you need a professional headshot this is the place to go. I was dreading this and putting it off like a root canal. The thought of posing for a photographer had evolved into an irrational fear. I had no choice though and had run out of time. I contacted Steve and set the appointment for the next day. Suit in hand I arrived and Steve was waiting. He made it clear from the beginning there was no rush and he would do whatever it took for me to be happy. Suit and tie on top, shorts and sandals on bottom we got started. We stopped a couple times to look at photos and they were already looking good. Ended up with around 75 photos and after 3 elimination rounds I was able to narrow it down to 2. Steve emailed these to me and after some time contemplating I selected one and let him know. He returned the slightly retouched photo via email the next day and the job was done. My favorite wedding photographer is Kristi Wright. She's awesome. So when I reluctantly needed a headshot for my real estate business, I asked Kristi to do it. I sent their links to Kristi and she said that they were crap and said go to Steven. Finally I relented and oh-my-god I'm glad I did. Steven is a natural. He takes a million photos and helps you (and your crappy engineering "eye" for art) pick out the best. He was patient while I was neurotic. He endured my pleas for "cheaper" without being a jerk to me (I deserved for him to be a jerk but he wasn't). Wonderful experience! I am a beginning voice actor, and Steven helped make the headshot process a breeze. We chatted on the phone, set up a studio time (he is quite flexible for those of us on the corporate clock), and knocked the session out after work one evening. I knew I had to get serious about getting professional headshots. After looking at different photographer's websites, I decided to go with a photographer a friend had recommended, Steven. I'm glad I did. He was great. Steven was very professional and very involved in my session. I was brand new to Austin and found Steven on a website for a local talent agency. This was my first experience with professional headshots and I just wanted someone who was going to do a great job who knew the business. I'm very happy with Steven's work. He was easy going, extremely helpful, and efficient. He had the final images ready for me within a week. Also, during the shoot he made the whole experience much more comfortable (I'm not someone who gets a big kick out of getting my pictures taken). But it was fun anyway. I was in Austin visiting family and decided to do a search for a professional headshot photographer. I was in need of some updated professional photos. I found Steven's website and was very impressed with his content and his style of photography. I sent him an email via his website and he replied within the hour. Responsiveness is very important to me and since I was only in town for a few days, timing was everything. Luckily, he had a opening and I scheduled an appointment. Upon meeting Steven, he made me feel immediately at ease and explained the flow of the session. He also provided feedback along the way, i.e. how to tilt your head, shift your shoulders, relax and smile so that you could look your best. The best part is that he lets you see the shots right after he takes them, so you can see how they look before continuing the session. At the very end, you get to see them all.
