If you're GF Not Worth Jumping Through the Hoops When I found this place online, I was so excited. When one must follow a gluten-free diet, it is so nice to find places where you can eat what everyone else gets to enjoy. This was anything but enjoyable. I was planning a little Halloween getaway to Kingston and searching for a new and exciting breakfast place to stop on my way there. I found Heaffles and read through their website--I'm always very careful and vet my restaurants before the trip and plan food meticulously, you have to when you cannot eat gluten. The site stated that if you want a gluten free waffle, you must call 24 hours ahead of time. I immediately thought that was ridiculous (that eliminates any possibility of a GF person walk-in from eating there) but messaged them on Instagram. I asked if I could message then and schedule or did a I have to call. They told me I must call the day before. Pain in the bum, but I set a reminder in my phone and did so. The next day, I show up. Such a cute place and the breakfast that kicks off a trip always makes me so happy. We don't eat out much at all, living so rurally. It had also been ages since I'd enjoyed a GF waffle, so excitement was high. This place has a ton of potential. The seating is cute, the bathrooms clean and so beautifully decorated. There is even a little cubby with cushions that would make it feel as though one was having breakfast in bed. I really did fall in love with the space. There didn't appear to me to be a traditional server comes to your table. You walk in and place your order at the counter. I ordered a Flat White to drink along with a water and a gluten-free coconut rush. The young lady at the counter was very quick to tell me that they had a customer coming in to get a GF waffle and that they only had enough batter for one waffle and that I would need to try again and call 24 hours beforehand. Right before I told her I was that customer, my brain was like, what? You have enough batter for ONE waffle??? I make GF stuff all the time. It is NOT that expensive. And what if you mess up that ONE waffle (and they did because she didn't listen to me)? I said, "Oh, I called yesterday." And I had driven a very long way. I would hate for anyone else to do that and end up disappointed. After that, I was allowed to order my waffle. Coconut is my favourite sweet flavour, but it came with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I told her THREE times I didn't want the strawberries or the syrup. Strawberry jam, jelly syrup...I hate them all, also cannot stand cooked fruit. She told me she could put the strawberries on the side and that they were uncooked. I said that was okay, but reiterated AGAIN that I do not want or like the strawberry syrup. I thought I might get my drinks at the counter, but she said they would bring everything to my table. I sat within view of the counter by the window. I assumed, as at most places, the drinks would come out first. I had started on the Terra Health heartburn kit to kick my PPI script and needed to take the supplements before eating. Some ladies came in after me and they got their drink order while I sat and waited. The waffle came out, and I was too panicked by not taking my supplements to pay that much attention and told them I needed some water and that I didn't have my coffee yet. They came back in a few minutes and in the meantime, I saw that the waffle I'd paid nearly $30 for, along with a very tiny flat white coffee, was drenched...every inch in yucky strawberry syrup. I'm a silver lining kind of girl, so I told myself to try it, maybe my tastes have changed. Nope. It was this strong, chemically strawberry flavour that made me gag. Talk about disappointed. At this point it was late in the morning and I was starving. I opened up the waffle (the size, even if they'd managed to listen to my order was not worth what I paid) and ate some of the filling out. The only waffle that had no nasty syrup was at the fold and I ate the four bites I could. The coffee was literally 3 swallows. I left hungry and angry. And in all that time, no one ever came back to ask me how the order was...and I knew I couldn't send it back because that was their ONE GF waffle batter of the day. I had to stop at Wendy's and spend another $10 for a bunless burger after. I would never go back. The ask and not having the batter available is beyond RIDICULOUS, despite the fact they don't listen, which makes a GF person VERY nervous. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. Poor service, poor value and food I couldn't stomach. Not for me. read more

Everyone from the owner to the manager to the baristas care about coffee and creating a warm space for people. Wish I knew more about beans, but just from the way they explained calibration and how ambient weather affects the espresso, I felt like I was in good hands. I even several times skipped morning coffee at home to have my first cup here. They try to reflect your energy too, so if you seem like you just want caffeine, they are efficient, but if you initiate conversation, they return the favor. The coffee art is on point, and I even learned about which apparatus and method are easier for amateurs. They never hurried me, which I really appreciate. Great space for reading a book, meeting up with friends, or work session. read more

I've always wanted to try this place after seeing such high reviews online. Finally made my way over for dessert on a Friday evening and while the experience overall was pleasant, I unfortunately can't justify the price for what you get. The space itself is cozy and vibey, with a warm ambiance that is ideal if you're looking for a place to hang and converse. The staff were all very friendly as well. My bf and I each got a build your own waffle and customized each step to our liking... I went with their strawberry & banana fillings, raffaelo sauce, hanuta (which they explained to me as a wafer type treat), and hazelnut ice cream. They also brought us complimentary tea after, which was nice but more on the herbally side so the flavour is likely not for everyone. The waffle itself was tasty and what you'd expect. It hit the sweets craving I needed to cure, but our bill came out to just over $40 which I don't think I can justify for dessert. I'm glad I tried this spot out but for the price point, I'd rather spend that money on an actual meal or go to a more affordable dessert spot. That aside, if you're willing to splurge to try a new dessert place, I'd say go for it, though it didn't taste like anything amazing or that I've never experienced before. read more

Came here expecting a cafe, but stayed for the nice decor and seating. Many different seating options and very nicely decorated area. They offer a bunch of waffle options, but not the traditional deep square ones. Hazelnut waffle - You want crispy outside fluffy inside for waffles and this did not have it. This was more like a crepe sandwiched with lots of toppings. Dissapointing for a waffle, felt more like a crepe+waffle. read more

Family friendly but geared more towards older kids, teenagers, or older guests who just want a reading nook and some fancy coffee. Great for date night! Variety of tables/seats, but if you seat yourself in a "wrong" spot, they will come and ask you to move. We got a Chocolate Storm gelato for my daughter and a tea. The gelato is a large portion and definitely loaded on the wow factor! It tasted good, but the chocolate pieces all hardened from the cold treat, that it became quite impossible for my 3yo to bite through. There is a slight wait, but after seeing all the pieces they add to the gelato, they are actually pretty quick! Will definitely come back for their waffles next! read more

Extremely friendly service. Clean and spacious inside. Big gender neutral washrooms. They even have this unique bed lounging situation right when you enter to your left. The build your own waffles was easy to customize. They had a nice selection of drinks. I got a matcha with honey. I didn't know the honey was extra, the cashier just asked and I said yes, oops. I thought the waffles were nice and fresh and warm but thinner than the ones you'd get at demetres. I liked the vibe overall, more than the food itself - especially for the price, but I feel like it was a less franchisey version of Demetres. It's nice to have something like this in Pickering that isn't a chain. I wish this place would also sell sandwiches, it would make it even nicer. read more

Before Heaffles, the coffee scene in Pickering wasn't too hot. First foot in the door and a good look around, I had to say the feel and ambience made me want to cozy up with a good book or spend an hour catching up with a friend, which I have gotten a chance to do. I love the aesthetic with its trendy furniture and all the plants. Plants = love, so bonus points to the person who designed the space. They import their coffee and there is a roast for everyone. They have their lattes, cappuccinos, and other caffeinated beverages but they also have their assortments of tea if you're not a coffee drinker. Non-dairy options available here. Their Pièce de résistance though is the Heaffle. It's an artisanal waffle with your assortment of toppings, sauces and a nice scoop of ice cream or gelato. You won't regret trying it. It's quite big so you may want to share. They also have other food items such as croissants and cookies. They have free wifi and plenty of spots to park at in the plaza parking lot. Last but not least, this place is at the top of my list of favourite places in Pickering because of their service. They always ensure that your drink/food is to your liking and try to personalize your experience. I've got heaps and heaps of love for Heaffles. read more

All I can say is WOW‼ Our 1st visit here and it is now our favourite go to place for coffee, brunch, lunch, snack, whatever. Heaffles closes at 5 so not a dinner place unless you like to eat very early. I had The Rainbow Party and it was a party in my mouth, full of blueberries, kiwi, mango and strawberries plus whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. You get to choose the gelato to go with your heart shaped "part pancake, part waffle" creation. I chose mango gelato which was lovely. My husband chose The Hazelnut Crunch which was full of bananas, peanut sauce, strawberries, chopped mixed nuts, Nutella and whipped cream with a chocolate drizzle on top. It's soft opening so I haven't had a chance to try the food menu yet, but i came in to grab a few lattes to go. Hopefully soon we can try some more on the menu and leave a more detailed review. The staff here were extremely welcoming and helped me pick my lattes. They took their time getting the teas ready and they tasted great. I think it needed a bit more steep time because my latte was very milky and very little flavor. I had ordered their chai. It was also still a bit cold from the milk. Excellent service with high attention to detail. I appreciate them writing your names on the plates with sauce to personalize it. Like others have said, the staff is super nice. They really did invest in the whole experience from the aesthetic to the customer service. What I like about this place is the variety of seating options from booths, to high chairs and lower seats and tables etc. The attention to detail in even the glasses they use, cutlery serving platter, and actual cutlery is really cool. As for the waffles, it was slightly thinner and more of a pancake mixture type texture and the filling was very plentiful. I had the banana-waffle as noted on the website (banana and caramel) and added ferrero rocher. I enjoyed it. It was a lil expensive at $17 but whatevs. I had a nice experience there. But I think it's cheaper to build a waffle and that was my mistake. I highly recommend this place. TIP: build-a-waffle instead of ordering the suggested waffles on the wesbite, especially if you just want 2-3 toppings. read more

Service was okay not the best It was like the hottest day on earth when we went with a heat warning and there ice machine was broken The food was also mid not worth the outrageous price The drinks we got the gelato shakes also were not the best and were also very expensive almost 10 bucks for 1. And if u wanna add whip cream to the drink it's more money. The waffle was okay but once again pricy for what u get The cookies were hard and stale It's sad cause this is like the only cafe Ik in Pickering that I can walk to. This is a new dessert place in Pickering. I definitely kinda love this place, they lovingly make these waffles which you can custom build yourself, the people here are super nice and enthusiastic about their business. Came here on a waffle craving. New waffle and coffee bar in Pickering, just opened a couple weeks ago. They serve European coffee, "Scandinavian" waffles and gelato. And their restaurant decor is absolutely amazing!!! I was blown away at how nice the place was done. The bar theme is modern, detail oriented and impressive --reminiscent of/on par with cool, modern restaurants in the downtown core. Food and service was also great. Waffles were delicious. Their menu allows you to build-your-own-waffle (where you pick/customize your own toppings). And they take your name when you order and write your name onto the serving plate--such a cute touch. Heaffles recently opened up in the plaza where I work. I've been patiently waiting to check it out and I'm glad I was finally able to. Pros: yummy food--i had a dessert waffle of Rafaello and strawberries; friendly staff that made us feel welcome; lovely modern decor. Cons: service took a little longer than expected which is why I removed a star, however I'm assuming they just haven't quite found their groove since it's newly opened. Once they've been around, I'm sure it'll be 5-stars. Drip coffee is not as strong as I hoped--i take my coffee black but this still tasted a bit light and tangy-sweet... perhaps the coffee was Brazilian...? I'm used to dark roasted Ethiopian coffee. We've been driving by this place for about 3 years now and for some reason never stopped. We live about 25 min away. Today, we decided it was time for something new and made the trip just to try it. We were greeted with a friendly hello (and likely a smile but masks sometimes make it hard to tell). I was surprised that there's not really table service, you order and sit and they bring it to you. The menu is very simple, you start with a waffle and then assorted filings and toppings. Mostly fruit and chocolate and such, plenty of choices. They also show you some pre-fixed examples by photo, and the waffles, surprisingly, look just like the photos, with very minor exceptions. The photo of the one I ordered showed what looked like fresh pineapple, but when it came, it looked and tasted like canned. That could be due to COVID, so I'll let it slide for now. The waffles themselves were quite tasty! And the presentation is adorable. Other than the pineapple which still was not bad at all, I have no complaints. The server who brought our coffee drinks (we both got the Canada Day special Maple Latte) I think was either an owner or at the least a manager. She checked on us a few minutes later and, after asking how we liked it and getting some feedback about the unusual taste, explained that they use Ethiopian coffee beans which do have a distinct flavour profile. She actually brought me another one, even though I said it was fine, just different than what I'm used to - made with Brazilian beans, instead. That, in itself, made the trip, and the price, worth it. All in all, a little pricey to do often - but the quality and flavour were great, and serving is a good size. I'm still quite full, an hour later! We'll definitely be back for more. Thanks for the great meal! read more

Go to waffle place in Pickering. The waffles are just a perfect decadence. The portions are huge and a struggle to finish and you will want to finish it. Comes with a side of gelato which is just perfect. My favourite is the nutella one. Coffee so good and the service is excellent. Delivery and takeout is safe during covid. Love the atmosphere! Nice place to chill or take someone on a date. It's fairly pricey but rly good quality, it's def worth imo!
