Healdsburg Plaza is a fun town square with a gazebo, grass, and shade trees, surrounded by great restaurants, wine bars, and boutiques. We sat at the park while waiting for our restaurant reservation as we were early and they were busy. Plenty of people enjoying the park but still relaxing, and surprisingly enjoyable way to pass the time while visiting the wine country area.

A Plaza with a lot of history! Healdsburg Plaza was established in 1857. The intent was to develop the area into a beautiful space for community use, and judging from my personal experience, founders succeeded. I read somewhere that the original plan was too build churches around the plaza and not let it be surrounded by bars and saloons, but obviously that plan did not work out! There are so many nice shops, restaurants, bars and wineries around the plaza that one may have to visit many times to cover all of their preferred options! Every time we visit we run into folks who are enjoying a walk in and around the little plaza and are willing to stop and have a pleasant chat. It may not have churches built around it as originally planed, but it is a wonderful little community plaza. If you are interested in the history, I encourage you to go to this site that provides a wealth of information, a good part of which I am willing to bet will surprise you: http://www.sonic.net/janosko/ourhealdsburg.com/history/healdsburg_plaza.htm

Grab your hiking shoes and get yourself outside...to Fitch Mountain Open Space! We've been hiking…read morethe 3-ish mile steep Summit Trail loop for years. The large parking lot and entrance into the hike at Villa Chanticleer were recently renovated (as was the nearby dog park), and it's fantastic. Be warned: the Summit Trail hike starts with a quick descent /stairs down from the parking lot, and then a LONG, STEEP UPHILL. And it's all dirt/gravel. It's a wide and well-maintained fire road, but the dirt/gravel can be loose. So wear hiking shoes (leave your less grippy running/tennis shoes at home), and take your time. Bring water and wear sunscreen, although a good amount of the trail has tree coverage. Previously the initial descent into the trail and trail markers weren't clear, but they are now. All except for the end of the trail - there's opportunity for a clearer trail sign at the final turn. So take a mental note as you start so you can remember where to hike down/back to the parking lot. If you end up down by the water tower, you've gone down too far. Leashed dogs are welcome on this trail, and our 2 pups love it - we always bring water and poo bags for them. The only challenge is that they end up covered in spiky hitchhikers...and sometimes we find ticks on them. This park is close to home for us so we've never needed bathrooms. As the other reviewer mentioned, there may be a single porto-potty nearby. So plan accordingly. This is an incredible hike enjoying the natural beauty of Fitch Mountain, right here in Healdsburg. From the summit, if you choose to take the Butterfly Trail offshoot loop, you'll see butterflies all around. It's quite magical. If you're in the area and looking for some meditative time out in nature, highly recommend this hike!

I heard about this place opening…read morebecause I follow our local senator Mike McGuire on social media and he posted about the ribbon cutting at this magnificently revamped park. Which inspired me to check it out. It features ample parking, some nice picnic areas, a dog park, and a few trails. There is an out and back trail to the summit of fitch Mountain as well as some loops and a few different variations. All trails features this trail, and says the trail is closed. But it is newly reopened I went on 5/6/2024 and the park was fully opened. I choose to hike the summit trail, in an out and back fashion. The trail is a fire road and it is very well maintained. I am an avid hiker, in good shape. I would say this trail is fairly steep, and I agree with the ratings on all trails which states this trail is moderately challenging. The dirt on the trail is a bit loose. I wore running shoes, but I believe hiking boots are more appropriate. There is a lot of poison oak along the sides of the trail. The trail has lots of tall trees which provide nice shade. At the top of the summit, I was pleasantly surprised there are many unique, and artistic benches. Some are designed to accommodate lying down. The benches are unique, and beautiful, but also very functional and comfortable. The hike is approximately 3 miles, with an elevation gain of roughly 787 feet, and the trail takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. Dogs are allowed on the trail, on leash. I was really impressed by the beauty of this park. My only complaint is the bathrooms at the park are not built yet. So if you have to use the bathroom, there is one, but it currently is a port-o-potty. The dog park looks very nice. Although we did not use it. We went mid week, and there was ample parking and the park was nearly empty. It was very nice to nearly have the whole park to ourselves. I highly recommend this park!

Suffice it to say we saw a few locals along the way that seemed perplexed why we were driving very slowly through their neighborhood. I think that had to do with a bridge closure. Anyways... The return was not the same route thankfully. The park has for pay parking areas and what seemed to be free parking along the road to the park at your own risk. We found a spot in the paid lot ($10). Get a receipt, put it on your car's dashboard and off you go. There's a small welcome center and info at the entrance as well. The Redwoods are incredible here, some alive for 1400 plus years. You simply can't see the tops of the Redwoods from the ground. Truly incredible. The trails are well marked and it's highly discouraged to get off the trails as the environment is very ecologically sensitive. Unfortunately we saw some disregard for that. Stay on the trails people! You'll find placards noting interesting names and places along the way in addition to information about the flora and fauna. The history of the park and previous residents from indigenous peoples to the parks name sake are along the trail. It's an incredible park to visit and appreciate nature. The redwoods are incredible and certainly worth a visit.

There is enough room for about 7 cars in the parking lot off the road in addition to available roadside parking where allowable. This is in the neighborhood and NOT off the official regional park section of the woods. It is about 2.5 miles up Fitch Mt. from town and down a meandering trail that goes along behind some homes to the stretch of gravel beach that this beauty exists amongst. It is truly a hidden gem. I don't try to bring too much since you have a good .50-.75 mile trek down to the beach to set up camp for the day. Mostly sun exposed so plan accordingly. The water is the real treat here - it is like bath water so warm and inviting you won't want to leave! Not super shallow and definitely swimmable. It's a large, fenced in park with wood chips on the ground, and trees all around creating lots of shade, even on hot days. There's a path around the inside of the park that is now paved, so a great little walking loop for the humans, if you want to get some movement in too. The new shade structure is large with tables and chairs. There are a few water spouts/fountains, and at least 3 poop bag dispensers and garbage cans. Be a good citizen and keep the park clean - scoop the poop! Our pups absolutely love this park - such a great place to socialize with other dogs. It's really helped our younger pup who is sometimes reactive when on leash. She's so much calmer and more confident off-leash.
