We didn't sedate him, and he did great with them. They were confident when handling him, and you could tell he was at ease, he did fantastic. When we moved to the area over 10 years ago, he immediately earned our trust by taking such tender, thoughtful care of our senior pets. When it came time to say goodbye to them, the compassion and empathy he and his staff showed us will stay with us forever. Last year, we experienced the heartbreaking loss of our 2 1/2 year old Doberman. Dr. McMillan once again went above and beyond, guiding us with care, taking time with us, and helping us through the grief. To this day, they still talk about him. Some of which were stray cats in the area. I would get them fixed through humane society, but get shots through the vet when I could. We also brought our dogs and pet cats there. I sent a lot of business that way. One time I had an appointment, I had an issue trying to catch the cat. I did call & explain, made another appointment & had to cancel that and give up. A year later, I missed an appointment because I had car trouble. I was actually bringing in my old, sick cat. My ride ended up running late & I knew it was nearly impossible to make the appointment. I tried to call 2 hours prior & got voice-mail so I also emailed. At 10 after my appointment time, as we are sitting in traffic, they called. I explained what happened and that I did call and email and may have made it if not for a traffic jam. The girl was incredibly curt and rude and told me not to bother. I then received a response to my email telling me I should have just rescheduled my appointment the day before once my car gave me a problem and I needed to find another vet. I am not making this up. After 13 years. It was pretty disgusting. So I have taken all my animals, my stray assistance needs & any friend or listener with me and I am just fine with that.

The vet, Dr. Stevenson came in and introduced himself and greeted our pet with treats to put him at ease. He asked a few questions to familiarize himself with our circumstances and gave some more treats for our boy. He reinforced our decision by observing his labored breathing, explaining that he was at the top limit of his life expectancy , and suggesting that he was tired from all the effort to breathe, stand, and walk and that he was in a constant state of discomfort. He explained the steps of the procedure and then began the process. After administering the initial sedative, he left us with our boy to say goodbye. He returned and waited with us as he drew his last breath. He encouraged us to stay as long as we wished and when we felt comfortable leaving he hugged me and told us to take care of each other--such a caring touching comment. When I mentioned that we would leave so we could settle up at the desk, he told is we didn't have to do that right then; we could come in the next day if it would be easier on us. To put our grief before his profit was overwhelming. They also provide a plaster paw cast of our furbaby. The tender touches Animal Care of Hendersonville provided won us over. We will use them again for ALL veterinary services when we are in the area.

An injection of medication would work, but the vet (Dr Jerry Shelton) said " hey , she only needs this dose. We could give her a shot but the pill is much cheaper. How often does a vet say that? ?... They could not have been more accommodating , professional and reasonable. We will use them from here on and give them the highest recommendation .
