It's hard to find someplace with some real quality goods in SW Nebraska or NW Kansas, but Knowlen and Yates fits the bill. The owner, Mike Ford, knows his stuff and is an avid connoisseur of all things that play on the palate. Expect a great deal of knowledge and friendly demeanor from this establishment. However, if you get the chance, you should go because it's a nice little shop and you can see into the area where they work the meats. The company has an online presence that allows for ordering (http://www.montysjerky.com). The owners also have the jerky available in some stores in St. Francis, KS, Denver, CO, Centennial, CO and Austin, TX. This jerky is a little more in cost compared to your gas station variety, but it tastes better so it should be. Monty puts its flavors on a heat rating scale noted by flames. I've tried the Tenderfoot and the Teriyaki. These are Monty's two mild temperature jerky. I am really curious about the hotter options so will probably look into getting some Red Hot Sweetie, Kick Ass and Red Devil. The only thing that gets me is that Monty's has a five flame scale, but the hottest is the Red Devil topping out at four flames. If you're looking for holiday or birthday gifts that may be a little different, this Made in Kansas beef jerky could fit the bill.

Let me just say this Yelp should have "smell" app. I love the fact that they are a small ranch, corn fed and no other hormones added I'm pleased that they have their own onsite USDA federal inspection processing facility. I never do that because I am not a big eater. Holy Cow, (no pun intended) they were fantastic!! Then two nights later, our nephew bar-b-qued huge Rib Eye steaks. Let me tell you, I have NEVER in my whole life eaten a whole little steak, let alone one as big as Gary grilled for us. I ate the WHOLE darned thing.
