I went in by referral from my boyfriend. He told me years ago that these people changed his life forever for the better. I lived in Korea for two years and of course, did get sick a few times during that course. I was surprised to see a blend of Western and Eastern medical practitioners. My first inclination was to go with Western medicine. Why? Because it was what I was used to. Then that one time I was given Eastern medicine, I was hesitant, but took it anyway. I'm not sure how it works, but it does. After that, I'll gladly give Eastern medicine a shot and for some ailments, will actually choose it over chalky Western chemicals. Now, I'm not sure if it was the change in weather, catching a cold or a sinus infection... but I recently had dizziness, weird pressure in my right ear, stuffiness and a bit of nausea. Rather than going to a one-on-every-corner CVS or Walgreen's we see in Phoenix, I went to Healthy Chinese Herbs. It's pretty easy to find: just go to the Chinese Cultural Center and it's between two restaurants near the corner on the east side. The smell in the store brought back memories. It doesn't have that stale smell most medical facilities have, but rather a sweet and savory scent. I told the lady behind the counter my symptoms, she thought for a minute and gave me Pe Min Kan Wan and Chinese Vitamin C. I took a dose after lunch, one after dinner, then went to bed... and woke up feeling clear, energetic and healthy. I really recommend this place, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone for medical treatment. I had a really bad UTI last summer (July 2018) and the herbs cured it completely. I've taken antibiotics in the past for a UTI and it didn't get rid of it at all and made me feel even worse! This is a great place that I had completely forgotten about. So glad that I've gone back. I love the smells in the store. I have been suffering knee pain for some time due to a torn meniscus. The wife of an Eastern practicing physician I am acquainted with mailed me some herbal pain plasters which worked wonders. Not wanting to take advantage of her, I remembered Healthy Chinese Herbs. I visited last week after work one day and showed her the package from the ones I had received. She told me they didn't have that exact brand, but offered me a their Hua Tuo Plasters. They are as good or better and help so much with the pain. Their prices are very reasonable. I only just learned about the doctor onsite. Making plans to visit and talk about some other issues! Being an overall healthy person and not necessarily wanting to rush into the options offered by Western medicine, this is a nice change. Highly recommended. read more

This is a review so overdue but seeing someone who are not familiar with Chinese herbal medicine at all and gave such a negative feedback made me so mad and had to write something in defense! I'm Chinese raised in Hong Kong and saw quite a lot of Chinese herbal doctors and a famous one in Hong Kong who has shows on TV but I think this Herbalist Kuang is even better! My health was extremely poor after coming to the US and got tendonitis and severe back pain, chest pain, my heart hurts, etc. and I saw different primary care doctors to get a second opinion, all kinds of specialists, including cardiologist, rheumatologist, sent to the emergency room because of severe chest pain and difficulty breathing, did physical therapy, and no one could find out what's wrong with me and solve my issues (except the physical therapy who gave me some relief)!! I don't remember who recommended me to try him but I went ahead and try thinking there's nothing to lose since I have literally tried everything. And at that time my major problem was lower back pain so severe that I couldn't sit anymore. I could only lie down to relieve the pain. I took a few days of the herbal medicine and I was so much better within a week!! That's something new!!! I couldn't believe my back could stop hurting and it's such a beautiful thing to be able to sit without a problem!!! If you have back pain you know what I mean!! I used to carry a coccyx pillow with me everywhere I go and I started to be able to wean using the pillow!! The herbalist explained that because my stomach is not good and my blood circulation is not good, so no matter what good food with good nutrients you eat, your body can't absorb them well. Improving good circulation can help bring nutrients to the parts of body where they need to be healed, and the body will repair those parts naturally!!! This makes so much sense!! After I was all better, no back pain, tendonitis, chest pain, etc, I started to plan having a baby. The herbalist said I still need to have my body conditioned and repair so that my "qi xue" (qi and blood) is to a certain level before it's good for me to try having a baby. It took some time though since my body was so weak, and finally after a few months, the herbalist gave me a green light and we tried, and I got pregnant on the second try!! I am forever grateful for Herbalist Kuang's care and I have a perfectly healthy and smart baby now 4 years old!! To respond to the comment saying they don't write down how many grams the herbs should be. This reviewer probably doesn't read Chinese. In the "prescription list", there's a number after each herb. And in Chinese, we don't count by gram. Maybe some herbalist got westernized and use a western scale, but all the Chinese herbal doctors I saw use a hand scale. You see that they seem to just grab herbs without weighing them, and I had the same question in my mind at first too but I think they're just too experienced they don't have to weigh most of the time after looking at the prescription list. For some herbs they do take out the hand scale and weigh them, probably those are too light and not accurate enough by the feel. That's just my guess. But since the herbs did help me tremendously, I don't question about it anymore after a few visits. Hope that helps people who had never tried Chinese herbs before and wanted to try. I say, go give it a try, there's nothing to lose! Copays from doctors, specialists and CT scans, x-rays, physical therapists, prescriptions, etc. cost so much more! P.S. And for Chinese people, we believe that western medications are toxins, that's why you call them "drugs"!! That's why you get so many side-effects taking them, and you have to take another drug to cover that side-effect, and the vicious cycle continues. And this place is really crowded with people from all kinds of ethnicities, because the herbalist is great!! There was once a lady sitting by me said that the herbalist saved her life!! You hear all kinds of good stories around sitting there waiting. Yes, the lady at the cashier could sound rude, but they get too swamped with patients that I saw them skipping meals on certain busy days like weekends. Because of the language barrier it's difficult to fully communicate my ailment to the herbalist. Luckily, I have A family doctor I go to on a regular basis. Going to an herbalist should not replace your doctor. It should be an alternative to man made medicine that only treat you not cure you. Terrible environment in the clinic! I'm a victim patient from this doc! He does not clean and disinfect his medical tools AT ALL! He asks all the patients to lie on the same dirty bed with hair on it! He could not tell my disease correctly. So he chose to fool me, while I know what I'm experiencing. He told me it takes one week to heal and after 1 week, it is getting even worse! He said, well, every one has different situation! Besides all above, there is no price marked of those herbs he is selling. He sold me some bend, without telling me how to use, without asking me if I need them. He disappears all the time, after he has treated you and having you paid the herbs, he never tells you what you should and should not do. Terrible experience! I would rate a 0 if I can here!!! Horrible services. They are always busy, the cashier lady is very RUDE. I came in several times and was asked to come back later because they were too busy. I asked how long was the waiting time so I knew when to come back. The lady yelled at me, 'DON'T YOU SEE LOTS OF PEOPLE WAITING? THEY NEED TO BE SERVED FIRST, COME BACK LATER, DON'T ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS.' F----- services. The message I was getting : go somewhere else. They have enough business, and don't care about mine. This place is very small and dirty, in fact, it seems like a little pharmacy without any certificate. That so-called doctor didn't help at all, worse instead. Those so-called herbs charged me a lot! The best Chinese Herbalist I have ever found. I found out about this place due to my neighbor who had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He went to this Chinese Herbalist, went back to the medical doctor and was found with no cancer. I lived in Phoenix so it was easy to go. The we moved out of state. I still go to Phoenix to visit and go to the best Chinese Herbalist. (Please note that I have tried others in the other locations I have lived and have never found anyone I am as happy with.) A few years ago I was diagnosed with Epstein Barre Virus. There really isn't any Western method of treatment except rest. One of the primary symptoms is extreme fatigue. I am a very active person and I am constantly on the go. With EBV I had difficulty mustering enough energy to feed my dogs. After a week of not being able to get off of the couch my husband took me to see the practitioner at the Healthy Chinese Herb Shop. We are both in the medical field I was a little skeptical, but I was willing to try anything that would improve my symptoms. At the time the "doctor" spoke broken English, but his daughter translated for him. Now he speaks fluent English. Without asking any questions he took my pulses, felt my neck and looked at my tongue and eyes. Then he began to accurately list every symptom that I was experiencing. He prescribed a mixture of medicinal herbs that his staff put together. I was given instructions to brew the mixture as a tea each night. I returned every week for 2 months at which time he would examine me and change the tea mixture as needed. I began to feel improvement in a few weeks and was back to working part-time in 4 weeks. After 2 months I was fully recovered and back to my regular schedule. The average recovery time for EBV is usually 4-6 months, many people never recover fully. Since then I have seen the practitioner a few times for minor complaints. The typical length of treatment is five days. The assortment of herbs is definitely nothing I have ever seen before. Some of the teas are bitter and difficult to drink. Nothing can be added to the tea to improve the taste. I find that letting the tea cool and drinking the tea quickly helps. The treatments that are prescribed always improve my symptoms. For most ailments I prefer visiting the herb shop over taking chemicals. I now go between Western and Eastern treatments as I deem appropriate. read more

Over the years the Dr here has helped members of our extended family in more ways then we can list. The latest being our young neice who had been diagnosied with Juvenile Fibromyalgia Syndrome & Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. We were deligent in keeping up and implementing the Juvenile Fibro Management Program thanks to the ongoing assistance from her Doctors. Even with that, she had been struggling for four years with high pain levels with the various pain flares. I was new to getting herbal medicine. Saw the Dr. within 40 mins not sure how long the wait was. Met someone else in line that said he has seen him 5 xs now and had great results. I can't wait to see how the tea's work. I have read great things about the healing. The woman made the teas in about 10-15 mins. Dr. took my pulse, and asked me if things were bothering me then gave me a diagnosis. His English I think is a little lacking but I don't care because I could tell he really knew what he was doing. I have used Chinese herbs from packets from my acupuncture Dr. in LA and had amazing success with them getting rid of migraines and all my PMS symptoms were gone 100%. Plus I lost 15 lbs from just alone. The tea I have to warn you tastes really bad, but I am a big baby about drinking things I don't like or eating them. I am making myself though because i have had so many more problems with Western medicine and how they only mask the problem with medicine. This business is a joke. They refused to give me the price for what I bought. Here is the detail. Came in with prescription and wanted to grab some chinese herb. The people here just completely ignored us for 20 mins. Finally, I spoke with one of the people working here and she said just come back in an hour. I asked her if I could place in my order now and pick it up later. She was very rude and said just come back later. Since we did not want to go to another place, We came back in about one and half hour later. The same lady told Us to wait another 40 mins. After about another hour, she finally got to our order. She told me the total for our order, including about ten different Chinese herb. I asked for the price detail and she told me that the receipt would show it. After I paid for my order, she handed me the receipt which only shows the total for the transaction. I asked her again for the price for each herb in my order. She said the price change frequently and refused to provide me the price for WHAT I BOUGHT! To me, this just seems like a scam. The whole store does not have a price listing. I don't think she knows the price. Bottom line, this is the first time and last time I shop here. read more
