I stopped here end of 2023 and have been checking out their other locations since. Love that I can get my olive oil here in the city from a family owned business and also the delicious dips are worth the try! They even got some pita chips for you to get all in one trip. A girlfriend and I were heading to a birthday party and need to grab a few bottles to bring. After looking up liquor stores near our destination, I found Healthy Spirits. We got here on Saturday, May 12th around 4:45pm. My girlfriend bought a bottle of red while I grabbed a bottle of bubbly, Segura Viudas Brut Cava. I believe it was $11.99 as the amount charged on my card was $13.01. They had a pretty good selection of wines, liquor, etc. I didn't want to spend a crazy amount on wine, so the cava ended up being perfect. Great liquor store in the neighborhood. Very convenient as the bday party was only a few blocks away. read more

Healthy spirits in the Castro will fill that gap in your fridge (or liquor cabinet) regardless of your beverage of choice. I've been here a few times and each visit spot new bottles, drinks that I want to try. I'm a beer drinker by default and HS's cooler on the left does not disappoint! It is full of choice craft selections, with favorites like Alvarado Street and Faction prominently featured. You can also mix and match your cans so you can try a few at once. But they've also got floor to ceiling selections of spirits wrapping the rest of the store, with dozens (if not more) varieties of each type. My partner and I usually find that rum is not represented well in most places (whiskey and tequila seem to be the SF winners), but at HS we were able to find everything we were looking for. They've got all the choice brands: el dorado, hamilton, clement, plantation, etc. And, they've got plenty of bitters, liquers, and what not to compliment. I also really appreciated that they had several options for non-dairy ice cream in the ice cream cooler. Definitely want to try one of those cookie sandwiches next time. Despite the small space, there are a lot of beer options available. Not only are there beer options, but they have a variety of alcohol's for sale. The layout was recently modified and it feels like it adds a lot more open space. They're hummus is also pretty good. read more

"This place has all my favorite things!" my husband exclaimed. Indeed, there is a surprisingly unique selection of beers plus other spirits, chocolate, and ice cream. All the good stuff in life, I suppose! The beer selection in particular has one of the best representation of stouts I've seen in a long time. I do wish in the IPA department, there has been more singles for purchase, even if they were marked up from the many four packs. Wine selection is small, but that's ok. Some very high end whiskey! I avoided this place for years, because I thought it was going to be too fancy and overpriced. But then one day I went looking for a certain ingredient for a special cocktail and, of course, they had it. They have everything! And you know what? The prices are totally reasonable. And you can feel good about shopping at a local business. The staff here is extremely helpful. And they have special treats like cold pressed Olive oil, hummus, mochi and other little surprises. I started coming here regularly during the pandemic because it helped me avoid Safeway. No turning back! This is a great place to explore, try new things, and get gifts for friends. Lugging big bags of just purchased bathroom decor at Cliff's - I spied Healthy Spirits across the street and I just knew that I was meant to stop in. I saw their outdoor sign bragging about their acclaimed hummus and picked up a small container of their spicy hummus. The guy serving me was Rami. He was helpful and as I left - a number of regulars were passing by to say hi to him. Always a good sign. While I still much prefer Royal Market's unbelievable hummus - Healthy Spirit's hummus has pizzazz. It's creamy and authentic tasting. Though there is garlic in it - it's not overpowering like others. It altogether tastes pretty similar to the hummus I would eat regularly in the Middle East. I only bought hummus here - but judging by the plethora of reviews calling out their liquor and beer selection - Healthy Spirits sounds like a true neighborhood find. Trust. read more

The folks who work Healthy Spirits really know their beer. Which is good, because if you have a stock of 300+ items, it takes a paranormal brilliance to navigate the shelves. Or a maybe some kind of beer Dewey decimal system? I haven't really broken into the Belgian-style beer world, which means that most of the 300+ items are foreign to me. However, the handy descriptions and aforementioned helpful staff lead me to wise choices. I would like to see this store's concept replicated for other portions of the beer family tree. Like if there were a store of 300+ IPAs and some beer genius at the front helping me choose...I would live there. This is pretty much my go-to place in SF for bourbon. They also have great Hummas and an excellent selection of beer from around the world. When it comes to bourbon, these guys know their stuff. They have a Bourbon of the Month club. I have never joined t, but given the amount of bourbon I drink, I probably should. They also have a Beers of the Month club that features special and hard to get beer. IF you have a particular Trappist which you enjoy and you can't find it elsewhere, they may have it here - or can probably get it. Parking in the area can be a little tough, so best if you can walk or take a bus. read more

Whoever is working the cashier always has recommendations about what they have in the store, from beer and wine to produce and ice cream. They have such a wide variety of beers in their refrigerators and special sections just for tequila and bourbon. I've considered joining their (free) Beer of the Month club, where you get 3-5 beers per month at a discounted rate. I was on the hunt all over the city for Yamazaki 12 as a gift for an upcoming birthday. I was excited when I walked into this Healthy spirits and spotted the bottle high up on the shelves! I received less than average customer service from the guy with long blonde hair. No hello as I approached the counter, very dull response when I asked for the Yamazaki 12, and he scoffed at me when I asked if they had another type of Japanese whiskey in stock. I also had to ask for my receipt in which I received a slight attitude about. Maybe it's because I wasn't an old white man, but I sure do expect a thank you after spending over $200 on a single bottle of whiskey. I won't recommend this place to any Bartenders or anyone in the hospitality industry because of this experience. read more

went to this place for the first time St Pat's 2011 based upon reviews in here and I was not disappointed. This place has a GREAT selection of beers and whiskeys, American and Scotch. I spent quite awhile speaking to Dave who was very knowledgeable and polite. I walked out with a number of beers in a box he packed and continued on my merry way. I didn't open the box until I was home and found that it was a little light on what I purchased. I called the store and after a quick discussion, the owner happily said he would give me a store credit for the missing (it was a single bottle...neither of us have any idea what happened to it) item. Especially when they're the only one on the block that has the absinthe I'm looking for - in this case, Emperor Norton, which is great and maybe in the same class as Pernod. They also had a couple smokey and or chocolatey, coffee-ey, or breakfasty dark beers, of which Heretic Chocolate Hazelnut Porter was the best. Had a bad experience with their customer service. After I bought $80 worth of beer, the staff packed it all in one bag. On my way home, the bag fell apart and I lost two beers. I emailed them about it and they asked if they had packed it in the double thick re-usable green plastic bags or their canvas black Healthy Spirit tote bags. I took a look and they had packed it in a Postmates bag (maybe left over from something else). I figured I'd ask if there was something they could do, since they were the ones that had chosen to not pack it in either of their what sounds like super sturdy bags. I stopped getting responses even after a followup. Didn't enjoy the lack of customer support. Thankfully ended up finding the same selection for cheaper at Bevmo. read more

Little place with hands-down the best Belgian beer selection in San Francisco. They carry your big names like Duvel, Jupiter, and St. Bernardus, and also obscure things that the staunchest beer snob wouldn't recognize. It's really hard not to blow my paycheck here every other week. The best part about the store is the staff. Seriously, throw any question about beer at them and they have an answer. I've gone in many times and said "I don't know what the hell I want" and they were happy to talk me through a few of their favorite selections. One time I told one of the guys I wanted to try something different, and he started talking about the rising popularity of sour beers. Sounds gross, but I was impressed nonetheless. Been visiting this place for impulse beer purchases for years whenever I'm in the area. Always has a great variety of foreign beers to choose from -I'm partial to Japanese white ale- and the staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. Decent hours, too, and just across the street from the 24 bus, so super convenient if, like me, you just want to pop in, grab a few bottles and catch the bus! One of my bloods recommended that we go to this place since we were in the area ordering ike's sandwiches. I had no idea what to get because of the massive selection so i asked the blonde guy what light beer would he recommend. He gave me a few choices and I chose a kent lake kolsch. It was one of the lightest beers I've ever had in my life. Light but not nasty like coors or bud. The second time I went i bought a cake at japantown first so I wanted a nice beer that would compliment it. The other guy gave me a lot of choices but I decided to get 2 turtle doves. It was HUGE and contained 12% alcohol. As weird as it sounds he was actually dead on with the recommendation. The spiciness of the beer matched perfectly with the sweetnesss of the cake. I'll definitely go back again and ask for more crazy beer combos.... It's the perfect place to pick up a few beers if you're on a date and want to impress a girl since this place has such a great selection. read more

This is the place where they have like 47 different kinds of beer from 13 different European countries. Those Belgians are so cool. It's like they decided to focus on the beer, the chocolate, and the cheese, and leave everything else to someone else. I'll drink to that. They did not feature Belgian Piraat ale that evening. They were sold out. I was disappointed but unsurprised. Piraat makes me yearn for mastery of the high seas. I think they also sell hummus and ice cream but I was not having any. I found this place in my search for last years Four Roses 125 Anniversary edition. Sadly I could not get my hand on it, but since then I have amassed 30 bottles of some very fine bourbon. I did find some Angels Envy Rye, Jefferson's Presidential 21 year, and my current favorite, a 20 year Barterhouse. Not to mention more Four Roses. Each year this store has it's own private barrel from a few distillers. Anyway, this store has a great selection of just about anything you would want, from a great beer selection to wine and hummus. The helpful staff will guide you to what you like and make great suggestions. Join the bourbon of the month club to get yourself started on some smaller batch and hard to find brown liquid. Yes, you will pay more than BevMo, but the selection is infinitely better, plus joining the club gets you 10% off each bottle. It get expensive since it's on the way home from work! read more

This ain't your mother's corner liquor store. The sign on the sidewalk declaring "San Francisco's Best Hummus" lured me in despite the fact that I usually don't indulge in such things before noon. They were just setting up and as I sank the warm fluffy pita into the baba ganoush I was smitten. Smoky, not too tahini-y, not too anything. Just perfect. A pool of olive oil and a sprinkling of spice topped the fresh bowl of hummus. Perfect, just the way I make it. (Ya that's perfect too.) I learned perhaps more than most people about Rami's Mommy's products - home made labani yogurt balls in olive oil that Rami (the owner's) mommy makes here and ages up to 2 years. Tabouli, a pickled eggplant with almonds, a few differently spiced hummus options. The perfect selection for appetizers or to have on hand for mid day snacks. I was thoroughly impressed and I've tried a lot. I'd never popped into Healthy Spirits before and I'm guessing the 79 other reviews sing praises to the beer selection. Indeed it's exciting to have this little corner of heaven nearby for so many indulgences! As I walked home I had to think about what dipping mechanism would be deserving of this hummus...something I'd never had to think about before. Now that's good eatin.
