Man, do I love wine! And I'm not snobby about it. If you love "Two Buck Chuck" or "1992 Screaming Eagle Cab Sauvignon" - I'd say go for what makes you happy. Life is too short to be snobby. NVWS is definitely not snobby. Those guys are on it (and I think they're all bald), I'm bald too! Great service, casual atmosphere, great knowledge without attitude and great music! They even offer tastings every Saturdays. Dog and stroller friendly (they are in the land of strollers - Noe Valley). Wait, you don't drink wine but you do partake in whiskey? They got that too! Gosh I love this place! They have such a large wine selection with a huge price range from all over the world. Clean, well organized & cute shop. They make good use of their space! They've got great little witty signs describing most of their wines. Most of the people who work there are sommeliers & very helpful. They almost always carry a champagne for under $30!! That's right-- an actual champagne! In addition to wine, they also carry a small selection of beer & liqueur. Some wines are refrigerated as well! Thank Gawd this location has filled. It has been vacant for over a year now. I missed my local wine store which is only about 200 feet from my front door. Welcome to the hood. You will see a lot of me. They have a small but good selection of beer, wine and liquor. Basically it is a little something for anyone. I was very happy to meet and talk to the manager and others associated with the store. They were very friendly and from the looks of it so happy to finally be open for business. Stopped by for the first time yesterday. Would occasionally frequent the previous place when Waleed was the proprietor back ten years ago. Had the overhead door sign with the pithy statements... Friendly service - mid afternoon and just me and Don (Tom?) i think it was. I had some questions about a couple of his Gin selections and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Pricing looks competitive with Plumpjack up the street and it's a bright airy space with room to move. I hope they do well. Will definitely try and support it. Yay! The shop is open... Many of us who know and Rebecca Rapaszky from her previous gigs have been waiting in anticipation for the shop's opening :) She's so knowledgeable about wine and really fantastic at helping match wines to her client's palates and interests - and her depth and breadth of wine knowledge is refreshing. I've learned so much from conversations at tastings with Rebecca and it keeps helping me find regions, producers and wines that I adore. A small group of us came up from the peninsula last night and had great time meeting many of the staff and enjoying the low-key, very nice, casual vibe at the shop. The tasting was fun and as I've been watching the postings on the various tastings they've started to do - it's clear that this is going to be a wine shop to follow! And if you are in the neighborhood - there is no excuse - you must pop in to check it out. They are just ramping up and it's already great fun with some awesome wines - both serious and super fun/interesting. I am excited to have left with two Sicilian wines that will be perfect for a dinner I'm hosting and because Rebecca knows my palate pretty well, I'm confident they are going to be delicious. So I come in here and I have a conversation with the guy in the giants hat who kind of reminds me of a less sketchy, less traitorous Brian Wilson and I get to learn a little about being a fancy whiskey drinker and walk out with really good booze. I can give NVWM a solid rating and recommendation as a neighborhood wine store. They have plenty of wines you could be proud to serve at any given meal, and offer them at reasonable prices. The staff was very attentive. If you have a bit of a cellar, though, you may be a little disappointed. I was looking for Brunellos, and there was only one. "$2 buck chuck for $15" As a 9 year NV Resident, I was hoping to find a place to find an expanded choice, good finds, and spend my money locally. Failure! I came in and spent a few minutes talking about the wine styles I prefer. Juicy fully bodies jammy wines, about $15 or less for the average one glass a night enjoyment. I was given three choices, one was from a new source the salesperson was promoting from Portugal. I had the wine two nights later. Immediately my housemate thought it tasted off. I thought, young, maybe it will open up. Half an hour later it still tasted overly oxygenated or tanic. Yes, slightly sweet but utterly gross. Like a $2 buck chuck from Trader Joe's. I brought over half the bottle back, same person who sold it to me tasted it and said it was "young, but not faulted". She asked if I wanted another bottle, I said yes and chose a varietal they had carried for a while and had a write-up for, hoping it was a surer bet. Then at the counter she said I got 10% off. Wow! Thank you, but no thank you. I'll take my business elsewhere. And write a Yelp review. Thanks for nothing but poor advice, bad product, and no customer service. read more

Small quaint wine shop, but they seem to carry a very interesting selection of wines and liquors (whiskeys especially). Their wine selection is mostly international based, which is really refreshing to me since sometimes I just want to find a non-Californian wine or grape varietal. The people working there seemed really knowledgable, however I did not really ask many questions since I was looking for a very specific bottle. And although a small shop, literally 3 different people jumped at me within 5 minutes and asked me if I needed help - such service! Noe Valley is pretty far from where I live, but I would definitely consider coming back to this location specifically for it's selection and service. It seems like a good place to explore new wines and get decent recommendations, too. Good range of inexpensive to expensive wines... not pretentious at all! Oh, and they are really nice too! -- Interesting selection: If you want an interesting gift bottle of something that you won't see in Safeway, they have it. They also put on the shelf many hard to find bourbon's and rye's, that other places leave in the back room for friends and family. -- Chilled beverages: The guys up the street have a puny fridge section. If you're Safeway, you have plenty of room for good and not so good wines right next to each other. When you're a small store like Noe Valley Wine, they all have to be good. I'm particularly impressed with their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay selections from both Oregon and California. They seem to get wine that is hard to find elsewhere. read more
