The church is nice and the people are very friendly. The staff are all godly men. The problem I had is with the pastor. He is 100% success driven. He has built a nice business out of the church and as long as I have known him (5+ years) all I have seen from him is a drive for big business. Several times I have asked him for advice and I have been met with a reply of "what do you want me to do?" I believe that money and success is his idol. He is more interested in big business then in discipleship of his flock. He doesnt want to go deep in his ministry teaching people how to be like Christ. He just wants a bigger business. He is wracked with pride and greed. If you want to go deep in your faith. Randy Abell is not the man to help. If you want to be a part of a church with a lot of money and image of success then this is your church. Also I have a problem with the way he treats his wife. He puts her down and claims to have routine "3 day fights" I mean, who does that. Last criticism I will say is that his pay is way higher then a pastor should be paid. The church staff all make under 30k for full time and he makes over 70k. A pastors pay is to equal 10 tithes in the church. A pastors pay should be an average of the peoples pay in the church. After knowing hi for a few years I have finally decided to not let him influence me anymore. He is a manipulative pastor that will stop at nothing to accomplish his purposes even if it means taking advantage of people in the church. read more

We love this church! Everyone is so welcoming! The staff is kind and knowledgeable, the music is a wonderful mix of contemporary and hymns! They have a class for all ages, stages of life, and needs. There's an amazing children's program and so many young families with children being raised in the word! It's wonderful to see all that God is doing there and the growth we're having! We feel blessed to have this church family, and they truly are like family. I've been in few churches as welcoming and loving of everyone. The fellowship is wonderful and there are several annual activities we do together as a church that make the bond even closer. Their heart for missions is something our family appreciates. They care to know that people are being reached with the gospel and make it a point to support about 30 missions families around the world. It would be wonderful to see our church grow and be able to support more missionaries so more can be reached. There are even plenty of service times to choose from. There are two morning services on Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00 am, an evening service at 6pm and a Wednesday night prayer meeting and children's program at 7pm. I'm not sure what more we could ask for in our second family and we hope to see much more of Ames and the surrounding areas join us soon. read more

The Word of God is faithfully preached in every service and the congregation is a diverse and multigenerational group striving to grow in Christ daily. My family and I have been attending for over 5 years and we have found the people and staff to be friendly, loving, and involved in ministry and the lives of one another. Heartland Baptist is a great bible believing church. They have a great friendly staff that is always there to help. They have classes for every age group and all teaching comes from the bible.
