It's sad that the best thing about this surgical experience is the cafeteria on the second floor. This hospital has seen better days and needs some updating badly. The bathrooms, disgusting. The elevators, too slow to even attempt to wait. It took 3 days to figure out how to get around this place, directions are confusing at best. Good luck figuring out what elevator bank to take to another elevator bank to get to another wing, etc. When I asked staff for directions, I swear they gave me the wrong directions on purpose. Parking is a horrifying experience, and I'm not one to let anyone valet park my Jeep. Extremely under-estimated the number of parking spaces they would need or the hospital has expanded way beyond the parking. The communication from the time leading up to pre-op, to pre-op, post op, during the hospital stay in ICU and a regular room, to discharge was sadly inconsistent. One nurse in ICU, extremely nice. The next shift nurse needed to not only be smacked but fired. So much conflicting information was given on the diagnosis and the steps that would be taken all the way thru recovery was bad enough to cause emotional distress. Discharge estimate - way off and there were no complications. The hospital needs to figure out a way to get consistent communication going. I was told I would be awake for my surgery, then told I would be put under and my brain would be frozen and monitored via computer and I would be on a nasal oxygen tube, then told no my brain wasn't going to be frozen but I would be put under and my brain 'shut-down' and monitored via computer and that I would be intubated. That is way too much discrepancy in communication. Recovery instructions were ALL over the place. A cocktail of drugs was thrown at me with no consideration for what I really needed or how the drugs would interact to make me nauseous. Dosing changes were not communicated between shifts, how does this happen when it's put into a computer tracking system? Would I go to another hospital next time? Maybe. I haven't decided yet. I haven't been through the billing experience yet so maybe that will tip my decision. I do understand the very best doctors are at U of M, maybe that is all that is important. I'm not sure yet. You should weight all doctors and hospitals before you have a procedure as important as mine was before you decide. Get word of mouth referals from real people who have been through what you are about to go through. Don't depend on your insurance company referrals or even your general doctor. I hate to say it but our medical system is completely broke, you have to advocate for yourself. You have to take a deep dive and do your due diligence. I feel sorry for the elderly who can't do this for themselves and might not have anyone to help them.

Once inside, directions weren't clear and I ended up walking more than I had wanted on my bad leg. Employees I asked for directions were as helpful as they could be - all were very friendly. Once at the Outpatient MRI area, things moved smoothly. I believe the quality of care was excellent just based on my interactions with staff. It seemed that they cared about getting accurate images. The entire process took roughly two hours. I would highly recommend U of M Medicine basrd on their consistently high level of patient care and sense of urgency for whatever you are dealing with!!

Procedure went very well where the communication between me and the staff was outstanding before, during and after the procedure and the staff and doctors were extremely professional, courteous, helpful and above all COMPETENT! Excellent follow up as well once we got home which was greatly appreciated. If anything of a serious note happened to us we always head to the UM hospital network in Ann Arbor as this is the best health care in Michigan for my money. GO BLUE!

While waiting I watched all 3 employee/nurses set up a "Happy Birthday" celebration. As I sat for about 25 minutes, I was approached by the receptionist stating that they now could not do a TB test after 4. The receptionist continued to ask me if I heard the nurse tell me that they could. Behind the receptionists was a lady who began berrading her employees stating that "We never do TB tests at this time, I don't know WHY you told her that". That lady did not even attempt to speak to me or apologize. She told the receptionist to tell me "to go to the Romulus location". I am absolutely in disbelief.

I had gone here at 9 last night for a sleep study and was stopped at the locked door inside the…read moreentrance to check and see if I was sick first and why I was there. It's secure, yay! I was immediately checked in a and found out I got to be part in another study for another company as well and will be compensated for it as well. Woohoo! I went into my bedroom and after filling out the paperwork for a bunch of sensors taped on. They're very nice and I was complimented on my hair as well as my kaftan. I hopped into bed after going one last time to the restroom (you have a private restroom attached to your room) and laid in the bed. They turned off the lights and had me do a few tests to verify the sensors worked. Off to dreamland I went. I didn't sleep well. Not their fault though. The beds are comfy and they even had a fan, but that's more me than them. (I sleep terribly in new beds.) They woke me at 6am had me do the same tests as prior to going to sleep, then came in to take the sensors off. She asked if I'd like to shower, but I opted out since I wanted to go back to sleep when I got home. They're very nice, the room is perfect for what you're there for, and there's no room attached for people to watch you like the last time I had one done in Novi, so it wasn't as stressful! Just know you're going to end up with goo/wax in your hair and you'll need to wash it when it's all over with. With all the gear taped on prior to going to bed. Btw, They strap the machine onto you only when you're needing to get up. It hangs on the wall when you're in bed. No need to worry, it's all comfy and doesn't hurt a bit! (I added a photo of what it looks like on, though I look crazy!)

If your insurance will cover a sleep study, why wait? After making my appointment, an information packet arrived in the mail. It contained directions to the lab, preparation instructions and a questionnaire. You might have to wait a few months until your appointment, so hang in there! I filled out my questionnaire as soon as it arrived. I think that made the wait a little easier. The lab is shoehorned into the narrow space between U-Haul and the entrance ramp to I-94. The place is secured with a locked front door, since it's so close to the highway. I waved to the people at the check in desk. There was one person who assisted me during my entire time there. I think it helped me to relax that there was always the same familiar face and voice to tell me what to do next. The room was like a very spare yet comfortable hotel room. The nice sleep assistant attached wires all over my body. I read for a while, sitting in a chair. Then it was time to try to sleep. Goodnight! The room was very dark. I slept better because of that. There was a loop of wire that kept ticking my lips. I found a comfortable position and actually slept while the machines recorded all sorts of information. In the morning, I washed all the electrode goop out of my hair. There was one last questionnaire to complete, then one simply has to walk out and hit the highway. It didn't feel right to leave without saying goodbye to someone, so I waved to a friendly looking lady through the window and she told me that there was coffee if I wanted some.

I contacted my insurance company and they said the medicine I received didn't match the diagnosis the NP gave. After calling AFC to get it sorted out, nothing happened. Received another bill. Contacted them again and finally they fixed it. I received a bill for my $35 copay which I paid online. Just today I receive another bill for the EXACT same amount for the same service. I don't know what kind of scam or shady business they are running but this is unacceptable. Will definitely be going elsewhere from now on. Shame I have this place a chance for being the closest one.

But this place, I didn't even have to say anything. They knew it was a painful procedure. They offered me sedation, no argument no fight. I felt so safe there. I never felt so much relief. My pain finally was believed and taken seriously. The IUD insertion was so smooth with the medications, I didn't even notice they put it in. They then took me to a recovery room where they had recliners, heating pads and snacks ready. Please do yourself a favor and come here.
