David made everything easy for us, so much so that one is tempted to look forward to one's own services at Sunset. Sunset far outshines Iguchi's, a little funeral parlor in nearby Homer, Illinois. Fortunately, Iguchi's closed. They were plagued with poltergeists and zombies, which one finds unprofessional and which further makes it difficult for one to pay one's last respects. After arranging our visitation and graveside services, Jim kept in contact to ensure everything was moving forward satisfactorily. Dawn took over beginning with the visitation and was the model of care and efficiency, making sure all things were taken care of quickly. Even with a major foul up with the cemetery (see my review for Grandview Memorial Gardens), Dawn didn't blink an eye, but adapted calmly and made sure that was taken care of properly. It is never an easy time with losing a loved one, but I was certainly impressed that my worries did not extend to the arrangements my father had pre-planned with this professional organization.

We just buried my mother and Renner-Wikoff wouldn't give me the time of day or allow any…read moreinput from me since my brother was the executor of the estate and signed the contract to pay the bill (which comes out of the estate not his pocket). Even though (when I complained about how I was treated) the owner told me they listened to every family member not just the bill payer that was NOT the case. I was flat out told they didn't need to listen to me because I had not signed the contract - not once was I asked for input into the service or arrangements. I had no role as the daughter and it didn't have to be that way. So, if you have family members that cannot cooperate do not use Renner-Wikoff because they are unwilling to negotiate for compromise. My opinion is they are in it for the money and will not rock the boat - at your expense (no pun intended).

Sadly, when I was able to visit last week, I found a graveyard in disrepair with headstones in strange positions. When I parked, with an eye to walking the vicinity, I noted that several tombstones were facing one another, and I have to admit I have never seen that, despite visiting many cemeteries through the years. Some of the stones appeared to have been lined up in the past, but the ground must have shifted because they weren't in a straight line anymore. I really wanted to like this location and write a complimentary review, but I was so very disappointed.

I selected the cemetery as a final resting place for my husband because he wanted to be cremated…read moreand didn't like cemeteries that had stones that stood up. I felt they tried to upsell me on everything and were not at all flexible about making changes I want to do it without charging me a lot of money, even very early in the process. They also told me they would try to have the items I selected for the crypt on it in two months, which is when I wanted to intern him. I checked the day before to make sure everything was ready and they assured me it would be, because his sister was traveling a couple of hundred miles for the internment. When we got there, the only thing on the crypt was a sticker with the time that we would be there. The crypt was not open so that we could not put his remains inside. Nothing else was on the crypt so I couldn't put the flowers I brought in the vase I ordered. I took his remains to the office, which is what they told me they expected to do and they would open the trip later and put him in. their definition of being ready was that they had someone ready to open the crypt after we left. They knew we were having a ceremony, but what kind of ceremony can one have with a closed, blank crypt? It's now been nearly 5 months since I purchased the crypt and the insignia on it and it's still blank. I found them very expensive for very poor service.

19 years ago my parents purchased a niche in a statue at Grandview, paying in full. This was to…read morerelieve the stress when one of them passes, the survivors would have a simpler time with details and be able to spend our time as a family saying farewell. My father passed in early July. Due to family travel issues we arranged for services to be July 31st for a visitation and August 1st for a graveside. Both our funeral home and the cemetery were notified at that time. We had no issues with the funeral home, the entire operation there worked like a well-oiled machine. What a contrast to the cemetery. Although they were aware of my father's passing and his pre-arrangement, I was notified one day prior to the graveside service that his space had been double sold. Not only that, there was already a resident in his space. I feel for the young man who had to break that news to me for he was probably only in high school when this happened, but the fact remains that this is inexcusable. Money was accepted, contracts were signed and now squatters occupy my father's final resting place. We're in a quandry as to what should occur next, but I cannot stress enough the need to stay away from predatory operations such as this.
