If you're going to the DMV to deal with tag and title then you're doing it wrong! DJ is awesome and…read moreas long as you have any prerequisite documents you may need (i.e., smog, etc...) he'll get you in and out in less than ten minutes. Use the Google chat function to let him know what you need (he responds super quick), and he'll let you know if you need anything prior to coming in. I came here twice for both mine and my wife's out of state tags, and it was just too easy. This is a really good business and is worth a small fee as it and adds a wonderful convenience to what is usually a daunting experience.

He responded quickly to my questions on Yelp messaging and answered all my questions, whereas other services either didn't reply for a long time or didn't even answer the question (or maybe didn't understand?). When the car arrived, I called him and he explained exactly what to expect. Pull up in front, or park on 12th and Fruitvale, give him a ring, and he'll come out to inspect the car, then we'd go inside to finish the paperwork. All I had to do was bring the title. He forgot to mention on the phone that he charges a 3% credit/debit card fee if not using cash, but there was a sign in the office stating this so it wasn't a surprise or anything. Within minutes, he gave me 2 plates, stickers, and the registration document, and filled out all the paperwork for me, I just had to sign in two places. I took a photo of all the pages and he said I would receive everything back in the mail from the DMV. There's a $5 off with Yelp check-in and I forgot to mention it until after he already charged me, but he gave me a $5 bill back, which I immediately went and used for tacos at Tacos Sinaloa #4 across the street ($3 per taco if you're wondering). Well worth paying for a service like this rather than try to figure out everything yourself and line up at the DMV. I was probably done with my tacos by the time someone would've finished up at the DMV.

This office is 10min from my house so I thought I would see how long the wait was for non-appointments. To my surprise, I was in and out in 1 hour! Note: I filled out the application and uploaded my documents online, showed up 5 minutes before opening, and scanned the QR code for a line position the moment I got inside. Also, the lady at window #1 was both pleasant and helpful so I'm not sure why this place gets such a bad wrap! Go early, come prepared, follow directions, and be respectful for a smooth process.

After waiting the required three days, I attempted to request a replacement, but the system would not allow me to do so. That experience alone was already frustrating, which led me to visit the office in person today. The first employee I spoke with was direct and helpful regarding what I needed to do. However, my experience changed once I was sent to window #21. The employee assisting me there was rude, unclear, and difficult to communicate with. She handed me paperwork without properly explaining the next steps. She was wearing a mask and speaking very softly, making it difficult to hear or understand her instructions. When I asked what I was supposed to do with the paper, she simply pointed me toward the computers without giving clear guidance. Afterward, when I got back in line and asked additional questions for clarification, she became argumentative instead of helpful. I eventually asked for her employee number, and she gave me "C5." I mentioned I would take a picture, and there was no issue with that. Overall, this employee would greatly benefit from additional training in communication and customer service. Customers come in already frustrated at times, and clear, respectful assistance makes a big difference. Other than that, it wasn't a long line to be seen, which gave star.

This is the worst and I mean worst experience I have ever had with any (back east) tag agency,(west…read morecoast) Department of Motor Vehicles or any business for that matter. I did exactly as I was instructed by the clerk at the window, after getting a number and then waiting all day to be called. I know when dealing with any public service office, expect to be there all day; that's not where the problem lies. I followed the instructions given to the "T". I had two vehicles needing to be registered this week, one successful not a problem. My second vehicle, I paid all the fees and what have you to register said vehicle; the clerk told me not all you have to do is smog and you'll get your plates, I even said what a relief. After dealing with them all week, finally it'll be over. I get here at 4:20, because last week at 4:30 they locked the doors; no one in and off you stepped out regardless of your number being called or not; you wouldn't be allowed back in. So at 4:20 I entered the building I asked, whom I later found out is the manager; if I could go move my car and still get back in. Response was definitely a smart @$$ response, as long as the doors not locked. I walked up to the window where they give you the number (without waiting in line, just to ask) I just finished getting my smog I was told I can get my plates today. She glanced over my paperwork, and said should be able to; as long as it cleared with smog. I left to go park my car, because I had parked right in front of the doors. When I came back in (now it's 4:26PM) I asked the manager so will I get my pastes she said you have to wait in line, only a few people ahead of me. No big deal; I thought. At 4:33 my turn to get a number, I'm told I need a vehicle inspection; done here at the DMV . I said I know I just had to do it with my other car earlier in the week, but the didn't say I had to do the van. The same smart @$$ manager lady, tells me well I don't know who told you what but there closed for the day, they stop at 4:30PM. I told her, but I was here; no one told me if have to get the inspection on the van too. Instead of waiting in this line for a number, and moving the van to find a park I could've pulled string the building and got the inspection done. She then gave me the coldest ( do I look like I care/ I don't GAF) I have never felt so robbed, so waisted. I'm a businessman, very professional; cross the T and dot the I type. I have a customer expecting the van to be delivered this Friday, for a road trip their family had planned cross country. I will not be able to deliver, for the first time ever; for the lamest of lame excuses/ reasons ever. Then they told me come back Monday. I asked if they could make an exception, or could I speak with a supervisor. This being when I found out the old crusty ashy lady with the bad molded weave, was the manager. I will drive across the state to another DMV before ever coming here again. I was told not to come to this DMV in particular; I wish I'd have listened, or even read a couple of the yelp comments about this location beforehand. All they want to do is go home, I understand it's Friday evening and the weekends almost here; almost being the key word. Why is that the most gross people are always in management. I am a manager myself, I don't just build rapport to fake a common ground; I genuinely care and I put myself in who ever it may be shoes. This lady and this DMV. I only feel resolved knowing God don't like ugly, knowing you reap what you sow, GWNARF eye for and eye, and the 10 fold the only reason I'll be able to sleep tonight. I know I shouldn't say, shouldn't do uggghhhhhh!!!!!!! Sad

Disclaimer: I have VERY low expectations for city, state, and federal offices…read more Both times I called with questions, the phone was answered; I got the info I needed; and the employees were polite, respectful, and helpful. The first time I went down there for a parking permit, the system went down. Before I left, the person working the booth window made sure I had what I needed when I came back the next day (i.e., checked my documents). I came back the next day and got my parking permit without issue. I think some people might have an issue with the security guard, but I didn't. When I consider what city workers have to deal with from both sides - being hated/reviled, people looking down on them & talking to them any kind of way, and then having to deal with crazy, unhinged people... they got it. Unless they actively disrespect me, I wish those workers the best & a better day. The guard took the time to explain exactly why she was limiting the number of people at one time in that cramped room, and it made sense for safety reasons. But I also understood why some of the people standing outside were angry about not being able to sit down. The issue is that the office is understaffed. They have one booth open to deal with everyone. I know people are leaving Oakland, but damn. You still have some people here. You need better staffing than this. If I were one of the two people working that day, especially the woman at the window directly dealing with people, I would be irate. They need to give those people help, and staff that office properly. Raise the salary, offer on-the-job training, and hire Oakland natives.

So she told me to go to window number 23 to do another eye exam looking thru something that looks like a binocular. First, I did it without my eyeglasses on but failed. I asked the lady I want to try with my eyeglasses on. She said in that case you're gonna have to go back in line and wait. WtH. It probably takes about a minute to finish. I don't know why she told me to get back in line. That's like you walk into a bank and tell the teller that you want to deposit a check and withdraw some cash, but saying you can deposit your check, but you're gonna have to get back in line to withdraw your cash. No wonder this place has a lot of bad reviews. A few days later I went to the DMV in Hayward. I was able to renew my license in 10 minutes without any problems. If you want to get a job at this Oakland location, be sure to put. I am very good at coping an attitude, giving people a hard time, unprofessional, rude and yelling at people as a job skill, you will be hired on spot 100%.

How in the world is it that I had no idea whatsoever this was happening? I was in an accident that was the the other driver's fault, but I didnt have my license with me so received a fix it ticket for not carrying my license. One week later, I had it signed off by my local friendly ocifer and took it to the courthouse. A few hours of my time wasted but that was that, all taken care of. But, apparently NOT. I guess somehow the paperwork was lost at the courthouse. AND THIS IS HOW I FOUND OUT. So now I get to spend my Saturday in the skanky over crowded pit of anger that is the Oakland DMV. And the kicker is I can't even drive there because it would be a major crime of some sort. Someone just shoot me. Now.
