What a delightful nook of beautiful paper goods, gifts and snacks from around the world! It is so well curated and a range of lovely things to peruse through. Well-made products and items here. Costs are moderate. Check the sale rack for deals! Bought a t-shirt from the sale rack for $25 - it's has beautiful SF icons and printed on a super soft cotton tee. As a graphic designer, I think my favourite gems here are the publications: the book and magazine selection is a designer's dream! Printed beauties from around the world that pulls you right in. The staff members stick to the front cashier area mostly, and were fast with the check-out process. Will definitely return if I'm in the area again!

Oh my goodness, a newsstand. I thought DeLauer's on Broadway in Oakland was the last of a dying breed where people are allowed to browse an endless collection of periodicals without being scolded for not buying any. Before the internet, that was how I bided my time on a lonely Saturday night when everybody else was at the sock hop in the gym. But now all these years later, Heath Ceramics has decided to open a new space adjacent to their showroom in the Mission to produce a stronger sense of community. It's quite glorious as I had presumed the print industry was on a major decline and magazines were merely relics of the last century like pet rocks and chia pets. I still think it is, but you certainly couldn't tell from the exorbitant number of newspapers and magazines presented here. It's astounding and all in a clean modern space that complements the upscale Heath brand. They offer snack items, beverages, greeting cards, and even flowers as any world-class newsstand would (photo: http://bit.ly/2K5WYKH). No pottery purchase required.

I love this place so much, especially with their collab with golf le fleur. If I could, I would def work here just because the people are nice and I could just read while working here. It's such a cool place I'm crying. If Heath Newsstand workers are reading this, let me know when you guys are hiring and I'll apply

Heath has created yet another wonderful, ascetically beautiful and creative environment with Newsstand. Bought some great, hard to find European art magazines here over the weekend. There are lots and lots of great magazines, books and newspapers here and they're very cool with you browsing and immersing yourself in their sizable inventory of inspiring things. It's a great place to spend some time.

The highlight of this newsstand was the different travel books it stocked! Just a little place next to Heath Ceramics with magazines, books and gift items. Loved it!

Brought a pen from this store. Didn't see the name until i got back from the office. This item is offensive.

Lovely little bookstore/newsstand next to Heath Ceramics in the Mission District. I bought two travel books for my next trip!

I didn't have my card with me that night, so I came a few days later after work. The craft market was bustling pretty hard that day, but the shop girl, Courtney (ps anyone who has the same name as me is a+!!) made sure to give me some good recommendations. I walked away with a really cool food focused zine (Remedy) a San Francisco zine (Wonder & Wander) and a hilarious red hot chili peppers fan fiction zine. Courtney recommend a few others, but I grabbed all my lil bag could carry. Despite the small little store front, I felt like there was a pretty good mix of things to look through. A lot of feminist lit, lots of political stuff, travel, food, and just general aesthetically pleasing things. I told her id be really interested in reading more queer zines, (they definitely have some!) and she assured me that she cosigns in small quantities to keep the shelves fresh and to date. I really enjoyed the market itself, but this newsstand is definitely a gem and brings a lot of community to a place where some locals would consider a tourist trap. I look forward to seeing The Grand Newsstand soon!!

This is a walk up kiosk by justin herman plaza/fountain and thus you will not be driving here. This is however, one of the most walkable parts of one of the most pedestrian friendly cities in the world so you have about a half dozen non driving ways to get here from around the city. This is the business inspiration of one local artist (it's the woman running behind the counter) and it sells art. It's in an re-purposed ticket booth and as such it's super tiny. There is no interior space so you'll be browsing via the sidewalk. Small whimsical locally produced self published pamphlets (hereafter referred to as 'zines), buttons, patches, cards and suchlike. The written items focus on various themes-love, city life, humor etc. are the stock in trade, made both by the owner and by other local artists. Pricing can be as low as a couple of bucks for a tiny booklet to 20 ish for a full size book. This is a perfect place to get some unique, local art/spoken word items and to find a little inspiration.

I found Smoke Signals on Yelp and gave them a call and asked if they had it. "Yes, of course." Of course?? I drove right over and he had a whole stack of them waiting for me. But although I got what I came here for, I took my time perusing his expansive collection of magazines. absolutely incredible inventory. You have magazines from all over the world, limited editions, special editions, etc. The fashion collection alone is a collector's dream. He has it all - business, politics, sports, cooking, hunting, tabloids, adult magazines. If it exists, he probably has it. Of course, he also has a pretty wide variety of newspapers, and a section full of cigars. This is one of those stores that are just so niche, which makes them really special. I will be sure to buy any magazines from here in the future, instead of some big-box store. Check it out! You'll be sure to find something you enjoy here.

Time for an update. I know a lot of people have a love-hate relationship with Yelp. I actually…read morereally love it and have been pleasantly surprised with the community connections I've made. Unfortunately, our metro is ^once again out a community manager. So sometimes it's a little sad to see all of the incredible Yelp elite events that we don't get to participate in. It was so much better when Ventura and Santa Barbara were separate, but for some reason Yelp combined them into the central coast. It's never been the same since they made that merge. :-( But trying to stay hopeful that we will have a community manager soon and be able to network with each other and local businesses. My motto is the more you put in the more you get back. Yelp works when you work it. And I have had some incredible dining experiences and exposure to local businesses. And I do have Yelp to thank for that. Thanks Yelp!

as a former Yelp! Elite member, i find myself almost hating this site anymore…read more 1st - it's become more a club for self-important food nerds who get together at events to be ultracritical of every place they go to (and probably, even, the hosting location - wouldn't know. never went). 2nd - i can't even look up a place on this site without a notification asking me to review it. leave me the f alone. if i DID go to said location and felt it was worthy of a review - positive or negative - i'll do so. i don't need a reminder from a bot to review some place i took a moment's interest in. most times i haven't even gone, but there's the notification anyway. 3rd - this is related to the previous item. i have a life. i'll review something when i have time to sit and do so. again, leave me alone. 4th - i don't know if it was the last time i was made Elite or the time prior, but i straight up told Stephanie i didn't care to be in consideration because my opinion is no more important than anyone else and i never go to the events. she kept messaging me anyway - not quite harassing - until i just relented. i'm pretty sure the following year i wasn't even asked and they added me anyway. meanwhile, my coworker was interested and writes way more review for more types of businesses than i do and has been ignored each time he's tried. again, not sure what makes me so special but i don't like that and it was the first turn off. there's probably more to it, but no one at Yelp! corporate is going to care what i have to say - as a result no changes will be made so what's the point of carrying on? meanwhile - while 98% of every "Authentic" Mexican restaurant in America serves food that tastes exactly the same as the others, every review for such places claims it to be the best in the area. you can rarely even find a review anymore on this site that indicates any place is truly unique from another. nature of the beast, i guess. so again, what's the point?
