The air conditioner in our house was about 10 years old and starting to have a lot of problems, so…read moreultimately we decided to get a couple of quotes to have it replaced. We do not live in the area as my husband is in the service, so when my tenant recommended this company (she knew the owner) I went with them. His quote was a bit higher than the others, but after speaking with him I felt confident they could do the job. I guess I misjudged this one. After the job was complete I received a call from my new tenant (we were going through tenant turnover at this time) saying that the unit was not working properly and water was leaking through the ceiling into two rooms! They came out and "fixed" it, but it happened three more times over the course of about a week. They finally fixed the issue, but they never came to repair and repaint the damaged ceiling caused by their incompetence. We have a different tenant who happens to be a professional HVAC installer, so he was handy for asking questions. CBS Mechanical never properly cleaned out the drain lines, or did checks (apparently there are tests they run) to ensure the drain lines were properly cleaned before activating the new unit. Chris, the owner, told me he would send out someone to make the repairs, but he kept blowing me off for scheduling. After several attempts (meaning over the course of about 6 weeks and over 15 calls) I have given up and decided to take another route. What's more is that they never sent me the warranty paperwork or receipt for the cost of the unit and labor ($5300), which I have requested several times. All in all, he is only out for the money and if there is an issue, they are not to be relied upon for fixing it. Since then, I have heard great things about other companies that I wish I had paid to do the service...like All Comfort Heating & Cooling. Head my warning and do NOT hire CBS Mechanical!

Six years ago they replaced the air handler in my attic, so I knew they would be reliable and the guys back then were very nice and professional. So - they have two offices, 1 here in ILM and the 2nd in Jacksonville (hqtrs). The Jacksonville location sold me a maintenance agreement with two seasonal checks on my unit. They were impossible to deal with for an appointment, the woman at that office was just a grouchy bitch AND the second appt never happened because they do not return calls to schedule prepaid service - they apparently prefer to let your contract run out and ask for more money. It was all BS. The technician said she was the wife of an owner ‍. Who knows, who cares, right? So - my lesson learned was to not deal with that Jacksonville location. The Wilmington location was spot on with their work and that's all I care about. Oh. So the techs that showed up for this latest installation were awesome. I was WFH (thank you covid 19) and they went around the house and shut all of my windows when they were done. I finished work at 5 and the house felt good and I was so impressed with how they quietly got the job done and that they took the time to close up my house. What good guys. They showed up smiling and left like quiet mice.
