I called Mike for an estimate and was later called by Chuck Kreimendahl with a date and time for the estimate. Mike's son a very nice young man came for an estimate arriving as scheduled. Chuck called a couple of days later with the estimate and answered all my questions about pricing. Mike , his son, and wife started on the agreed upon date. They were all very friendly and very hard workers. The paint colors were matched perfectly and they completed the job in 3 days. They did an excellent job and cleaned up day before leaving. I took bids for a complete paint job and wood rot repair on my house. Brogan had what seemed to be…read morea reasonable bid, so I planned to give them the job pending meeting at the house in person. The bid was for $4,275.00. When I met with Ed Brogan at the house, the first thing he said was, "I went to the wrong house." I thought he was explaining why he was several minutes late for our meeting. But no. He siad, "I actually went to the wrong address when I was quoting your job," on a house one block over. I asked what that meant to my project. He said, "Well, I'm done. I can't do your house for less than $7,500.00." So he wanted $3,225 more than he quoted. I asked him if he was willing to reduce his $7,500 bid since it was his mistake. He got angry at just the question. I told him I had quoted much work in my career, and if I underbid or missed something, I took the hit and did the project for what I quoted. It was like he couldn't understand what I was saying. He started shaking his head. I said, "I think doing the job at or near what you quoted is the honorable thing to do." His response was to turn his back on me and start walking away. I said, "excuse me," and he turned back, only to say, remarkably, "I'm nice and you're not nice." What? Now he's going to insult me? Ed Brogan is not an honorable person, and in fact sent off all of the vibes of a bait-and-switch con man. Who drives to the wrong address when you have GPS? Who doesn't stand behind their quote? Who won't even try to find a middle ground? Deal with Brogan's Home Painting at your great peril. You are guranteed an unpleasant experience, and with his attitude about customers, who knows what kind of job they will do. The experience was so unpleasant that I wish I could give Brogan a minus rating. It's a company owned by a dishonest person. BTW, I had a witness to this whole conversation.

But since we couldn't prove that the crew removed thousands of dollars worth of tools from our garage, we could not take action. The repair work done by Quality Restorations was of such poor quality, we had to hire another crew to fix the mess Quality Restorations made. Although Quality Restorations said they would reimburse us for those documented expenses, they now refuse to take our calls or reply to our concerns. This dispute has been going on for a year. I requested estimates from the three highest rated, local paint firms on Angie's List and Craig with Residential Solutions came through with the lowest bid on my 2,500 sq ft, two story home in Overland Park. His team of about seven painters worked long hours on day two (8:30 am to 8:30 pm) so any inconvenience for me was short-lived (pressure washing on half of day one, wood rot replacement, scraping, caulking and and most of the body paint during all of day two and the rest of the body paint, trim, front door, touchups and cleanup on two thirds of day three). They did a great job with plenty of paint coverage. I also liked how they worked around the unpredictable spring weather. The communication that had been so key early on had faded, and I honestly didn't know if we were on the schedule or had been completely punted. I had to follow up to ensure things were on track. It took multiple weeks to have someone out. I think it's because of the frequent rains throwing off the schedule, but again it felt my messages were sort of going to a void. They gave me about an hours notice when someone was coming out, and he did a really nice job. I was very surprised when I got the bill and it was $125 more than it's ever been in the past. Especially surprising because the email thread we had been going back and forth in had our prior invoice at $275, not at $400. When I asked what was up they cited that it took their employee three hours and my gutters were more clogged than before. To me, nothing has really changed, if anything we have had more trees trimmed back, and more importantly, I didn't know that would affect the cost so dramatically. It had been under a year and half since I last had them out. Had I known, I absolutely would've gone with a more reasonable option. I also felt like their response was a bit off-putting, and I'm surprised because again we've hired them at least three times and I've had such positive interactions up until now. I'll be looking elsewhere moving forward; they do a nice job, and are a professional enough company, but the lack of customer service and shockingly high bill will have me finding a new go-to for my annual gutter cleanings.
