I regret not taking a picture of the meat, because it was pretty. Very well marbled. We cooked them over a gas grill, and talk about tender. This was one of the best steaks I have had in some time. I am kicking myself wishing I had found this place extremely sooner. I'm not the biggest large blue chain grocery store fan which is right across the street. Now come to find out I had a local butcher option the whole time. This is a MUST try for anyone in the area. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality that you're receiving. Having said that, of the 15 or so places in Lafayette where you can purchase fresh boudin and cracklings, I would rate this place as 3rd or 4th in my book which means there are still dam good. Lol. This is a small grocery store so getting in, out and back in the road is very fast. In fact, I can whip in here and get burgers, cracklings, a case of beer and be back in my car in 4 minutes. While I'm not crazy about Bourgeois Meat Market's andouille sausage, which I have found to be a bit…read moretough, I enjoy their regular smoked sausage, and I'm a huge fan of their Cajun Smoked Tasso. For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. I like visiting their shop when I'm in the area, but I LOVE that they don't make me get on a plane to eat what they're cookin'!

Unfortunately we missed the bbq being it was late afternoon and they were doing their clean up and we were told there were a few plates boxed up in a warming case off to the side, they were clearly marked but taped closed and I really didn't want to open them or buying them without seeing what was inside since we had no experience with this local grocer. I noticed there were several small paper bags labeled cracklins some chicken and one marked "rich-man cracklins" so I grabbed one of those thinking it would be a good snack for the ride back. Unfortunately they were not something we were accustomed too, they were very meaty and chewing verses the fried pork fat with a crispy rind we were hoping for and now we know this was a different version so we dismissed them after both trying one each. Who needs a Bucees when you have this place. The aforementioned boudin balls are the best road trip snack ever. Fried spicy, cheesy, delectable delights. On my most recent visit, I got their in house made beef jerky, homemade pork skins, the boudin balls and some jalapeno honey mustard to take home. All of it wonderful. One of my buddies who I was road tripping with, was smart enough to bring a cooler. He bought frozen boudin balls, a few pounds of boudin, some smoked sausage and some sort of stuffed chicken.
