It was my husband's first "Cajun" wedding and I fully expected he would want to leave early. But we stayed until the very end and he now wants to learn to jitterbug and perhaps line dance! Of course we took advantage of the opportunity to indulge in some great food that we just can't get in Dallas. I grew up in LFT, but I've lived in Big D for 20 years now and you would be shocked to know that I have not been able to find "Seven Steak" anywhere in Dallas. They just don't sell it here. So, I was on a mission to find some on this trip and bring it back to Dallas. I grew up eating Seven Steak and also going to the original Veron's and having the butcher's give me a Lil' Smokie while my mom bought our meat. I found beautiful pieces of Seven Steak here at 8AM on a Sat morning before leaving town and I was so excited. I told the butcher that I could not find this cut of meat anywhere in Dallas, and he chuckled and said, "Mais, that's because they don't know what a good gravy tastes like." haha!! So, we made a "good gravy" tonight and all is well in the world! I almost asked him for a Lil' Smokie for old times sake, but refrained! ha!

When I came into the store earlier, I could clearly hear employees in the back arguing with one another. The situation was loud enough to be heard from the shopping area, and I found it to be very unprofessional and quite disturbing while I was trying to shop. As a customer, I expect a certain level of professionalism and respect, especially from a local grocery store that prides itself on serving the community. Hearing employees raise their voices and argue openly gives a negative impression and makes the environment uncomfortable for shoppers. Because of this experience, I have decided to take my business elsewhere. I recently shopped at Rouses and found the staff there to be noticeably more professional, courteous, and friendly. The cashiers were polite, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant -- exactly what customers hope to find in their local grocery store. I am thoroughly disappointed with the experience I had at Nunu's in Youngsville, and based on this incident, I am unlikely to return. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the behavior of the staff to ensure other customers don't encounter the same issue.

Walking in, you can see that they are serious about keeping things cool- this is one of very few grocers that I've seen that sells huge blocks of ice, not little cubes in a bag, but big bricks of the cold stuff. Inside the store, you'll see all kinds of Cajun foods that you can't get in Yankee land. I enjoyed looking through their pre-made foods for their southern style cooking. Be sure to check out their sandwiches. Everything looked delicious! Someone makes them some of their local foods- I got some pepper jelly that was made especially for this location! The store was a bit dated, and not as fancy as some that you may have been in, but it makes up for it in charm. They have lots of the best Cajun brands, as well as some national ones as well.
