The boudin was good, I liked the spicy one better, and to top it off I bought a slice of hogs head cheese just to try at home with crackers that took me back to my childhood. Food - Ordered the catfish plate which came with white beans, rice and potato salad. The potato salad and the white beans and rice were very good. The catfish was flavorful and moist. Also ordered the red beans and rice which came with two pieces of fried chicken. The Fried Chicken was super moist and very flavorful. I like the fact that it wasn't salty and it had a little spice to it. Service- the service was outstanding. Quick and efficient and very friendly. Ambiance- it's a neighborhood grocery store that happens to serve outstanding plate lunches. Many people from the community come here. Oh yes!! After devouring a plate of smothered chicken, rice and gravy, corn, and collard greens, I walked right back to counter to order plates for my wife and both our grown kids. I told them, her cooking shamed mine, to which they responded "no way!" They'll get to judge for themselves! I also but 3 lbs of boudin. I haven't tasted it yet because I'm full, but tomorrow I'll be able to update this review. They have a long table in the store where you can dine in--which I did. We were looking for some boudin and found this place through Yelp. When we pulled into the parking lot their sign stated they had boudin with an attitude! We were all in. The meat counter is right at the front door and every employee and customer was friendly and helpful. We ended up purchasing crawfish boudin, regular boudin and spicy. The man behind the counter joked with us not to blame him for the heat of the spicy links. All were delicious and we love spicy so it was all good. Wish we had bought more to take home with us. Stop by and try the boudin. They also serve plate lunches in this nice little grocery store. read more

The people at the meat counter were super friendly and didn't get frustrated at my questions or order changing. "Hot" boudin are warm and you can eat it pretty much as soon as you want. I am currently on a black owned food business tour and this place was my next stop. My favorite part of coming here is seeing the hustle and bustle of the Northside community shopping for meat or snack groceries as well as getting plate lunches or boudin. The Friday menu for plate lunches had a variety to choose from. I decided to get turkey parts which is a stew with different parts of the turkey in it. My sides were mixed greens and red beans. For 6.50, this plate was HUGE. It would have taken me days to eat it all if I didn't share with my family. It was absolutely delicious. The meat was falling off the bone and tons of gravy covered my rice. I also wanted to their boudin balls. The boudins were very tasty. It had the perfect meat to rice ratio that I love. The only thing I didn't care for was that when I first bit into it it didn't have that initial crunch that I usually desire. I will be back to try more treats like boudin and cracklings!!! read more

I always stop here when I am visiting my best friend... OMG the boudin is to die for and I always bring back a couple of ILBS when leaving to bring back to Texas. The grocery store is old but in great condition and always clean when we visit. The first time I went I thought it was going to look like a run down warehouse but don't let the outside fool you. I found out today that they do online delivery which makes me love them even more. I am placing my order ASAP!!!!
