I found this immensely beneficial, since some places just leave you doing little or nothing every day. The rooms look like The Four Seasons Hotel! I was in a room of my own...all hardwood, large windows with water views, a nurse with no more than seven patients. Lots of rehabilitation work, but everyone is very attentive. My nurse was phenomenal. There are no meal menus. An attendant comes to your room with a wheeling computer cart, and reads you menu suggestions, but you are always free to voice your own choices and wishes. Food was delicious. There's so much detail to every single thing here! If you HAVE to be somewhere, it's a terrible catastrophe, but being at Spaulding, Charlestown is the best!

At five pm they would just have a sandwich and soup because most of the residents would be stuffed from lunch. I liked seeing the residents on my shifts. He developed an infection and there were no medical providers available. Despite this fatigue and shortness of breath from the infection, he was brought to PT. As his performance was not great given the infection, the PT pushed him and appeared annoyed that my father couldn't do what they wanted. The nurses are incompetent and the aids spend most of tgere time on there phones. Call lights are rarely responded to. Speaking with the higher level administrators was eye opening. No one is competent there. I am a medical professional and know what adequate care is. This facility was reported to the authorities.

Patients are treated with genuine care, and it clearly shows in the staff's daily interactions. South Cove Manor is an exception. I would confidently choose this facility if such care were ever necessary. The majority of residents are Asian, though the facility is welcoming to all. Staff members speak a variety of Asian languages, which is a significant benefit for residents and families. While I have not personally tried the food, I have not heard any complaints. Kendra looks at your entire body and does a thorough assessment at every visit. She knows what each of her patients need, and knows that everyone is different and different things work for different people. I continued with Encompass Home Health when I got home -- and til the pandemic, I was crazy about both my Physical Therapist and my Occupational Therapist, both from Encompass. Then, when the world shut down and we were told to stay home, I asked for teletherapy. And, that's where the problems began. Encompass insisted that Medicare REQUIRED an in-person visit to accompany teletherapy. WHAT? You want me to be exposed to your therapists who are in nursing homes and with possible "compromised" patients every day? WHAT? I am 74 years old -- I cannot do that and you shouldn't be asking me to do that -- an, btw, Medicare repeatedly told me that what Encompass Home Health was claiming was 1) untrue, and, 2) impeding my recovery process. By the time I fired Encompass Home Health, I'd gone more than 6 weeks with no therapy -- and my progress had basically stopped. I have someone new now -- and he's great -- and is pushing me so i can hopefully make up some lost time. But if you want ongoing, consistent therapy, beware of Encompass Home Health -- I cannot tell you how many excuses they came up with as to why they couldn't provide what everyone in the whole world was advising: virtual care whenever possible and minimal exposure to outsiders. Getting their reimbursement became much more important than ensuring my continued recovery. I haven't even hugged my daughter for almost two months -- I was not about to allow "in-person" visits from Encompass. Also, I found out later that my PT was in fact exposed and quite ill about two weeks after I stopped her from coming to my house. Not that Encompass would have ever told me that -- and I wonder how many patients have unnecessarily been exposed to a potentially lethal virus because Encompass misunderstood the Medicare rules. Just sayin'.....
