Heckscher Park is a beautiful park in the center of Huntington. It's on 18 acres with a gorgeous pond that's has turtles, ducks, and geese Great walking path around the ponds with beautiful scenery and stone work. On the other side of the pond is a very fun kids playground with matted rubber ground for safety and so many fun interactive activities. Street parking, public restrooms, and dogs are allowed. Community events and festivals are also held here making this park an all around great Long Island park. read more

Finally decided to come here a few years ago, then the day of a big post about demolishing the playground lol. I swear only me. Anyway skip ahead a year or 2 later we finally made it on over here. I had no idea it was so close to the main street and I see many park before dinners in our future. Of course the day we finally came here was also one of the hottest recently at almost 90 degrees so we didn't stay to long. We will for sure be back. read more

What a beautiful park!! Leisurely walking around the the lake took me about 30 minutes. It's a nice way to get those steps in while getting lost in nature. I was admiring the birds on the water and I walked and it helped pass the time. Keep a look out for droppings on the ground unless you don't care to soil your shoes. Nearing the end of my walk, I really wanted to spend some time on the bridge where most of the waterfowls were gathered. It turns out that a family was feeding them. The very last morsel was taken by one geese that miffed another geese and so it chase the other with aggression. Birds can be pretty brutal and they were quite huge so I had to stay away. What an unfortunate experience. Besides the lake, there's also a beautiful playground, picnic tables, a sports field and tennis courts. The Heckscher Museum of Art can also be found on the grounds as well as a September 11 Memorial. It is definitely worth a visit. There is decent amount of parking spaces all around the park for ease of access too. read more

Heckscher Park in Huntington is gorgeous. It's the perfect place to picnic, walk during lunch break, or sit and chat with friends. The children's play area is well-kept and offers various activities to keep them entertained for hours. There are also plenty of shaded areas for parents to relax while their little ones play. It was beautiful to see that a small section of the park was dedicated to honoring the victims of 9/11 from Huntington. The memorial was peaceful and provided a space for individuals to reflect and pay their respects. My family and I also enjoyed watching the wildlife by the lake and the array of perfectly placed flowers planted throughout the grounds. This park has quickly become one of my favorite places in Huntington. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of nature. read more

Really nice park - they have a lake with turtles, ducks, and swans. It does smell pretty bad though - maybe from the buildup of moss. They have a few gazebos with tables at the playground for the adults while the kids play. They have a big picture board of Mayer-Johnson symbols for those with special needs. I first came here before they redid the playground area and even then I thought it was nice! They had a sand pit back then that was popular but it's no longer there after the renovation :( maybe it was too messy but I loved it if you didn't feel like going to the beach haha. I came again recently on a November Sunday afternoon around 1PM when it was about mid 50's outside. Plenty of parking (free all alongside the perimeter of the park and museum) and absolutely love how they redid the playground area. There is so much for children (toddlers up to teen age) to do! The equipment is clean (I mean, it's new lol) with bright, cheery colors. The spinning playground equipment was very popular with all the children. There is soft padded floors where the playground equipment is and plenty of seating for parents as well as awnings above the seated area. The playground area is gated which is great so children can't just run out. The lake right next to the playground is beautiful and dog friendly (must be leashed). There were so many people walking their dogs. I haven't been to the museum but the park and lake itself is beautiful. I returned today on Veterans Day around 2PM (weather was high 60s) and there was absolutely NO parking whatsoever. I had to loop around 2-3x before finally deciding to park in a residential area. Overall, I love this park for its playground and dog friendly lake area. Just be prepared for hard to find parking on certain days. P.S. There is also another Heckscher Park (Heckscher State Park to be exact) in Long Island so make sure you know which one you're going to. When I first met with friends, I thought they were talking about Heckscher State Park because I didn't know this one in Huntington existed. read more

Truly a lovely gem I got to experience today. The museum is one floor with two galleries, it took me 30 mins to see everything. Right now it is free admission due to a donation by Bank of America. I did make reservations online, but I don't think you really need to at 12pm ( when they just open).You can donate $ on your way out to help the museum. The parking is a tad small for the museum,so come early. I actually walked around the grounds since I got there before they opened.The park has a 911 memorial, Chapin Rainbow Stage ( live shows in the summer),gazebo, wildlife, ponds, river,and small bridges. I truly had a nice time visiting. Next time I would bring lunch a sit at a table. Great place, definitely come. read more

Fair today at Heckscher Park in Huntington. It was a really big one with many merchants spread out all around , including by the lake and entertainment by the stage. Yep I bought some nice things. Other places I took a card or flyer and I even saw BSA for Suffolk set up with archery activities. It opened at 10 am though we were there around lunchtime. Lots of people, families and dogs on this beautiful October day. Many different merchants at this one. From a lawyer who change jobs to bake , to two ladies hand making beautiful knit and crocheted items. Hard to find parking, kept track of streets and with a little help from locals we found our way around and back( see all pix) . read more

A beautiful and serene park on the outskirts of the village. A great place for a stroll around the lake. Public restrooms near the fully fenced in playground that is great for small and bigger kids alike. Also home to a great museum, although small - the Heckscher Art Museum. $5 suggested entrance fee - a bargain. They feature local artists of current and yesteryear. They also showcase amazing Long Island high school artists. I love this! A great way for students and the community to see the amazing art our local teens are creating. Come to Heckscher to be inspired, sit by the lake in contemplation, be inspired at the museum, or to grab a cone from the ice cream man usually hanging out by the playground. In previous years they have had concerts at the Harry Chapin outdoor amphitheater. A little slice of heaven. read more

One of the finest medium sized parks on Long Island. The park has a lot going for it. It has a very well maintained lake and grounds. The paths wind attractively inter-meshed with little rivers where ducks and a bus-load of turtles (in the warmer weather) play. The focus of the park is on the wildlife and giving it a place to flourish, but there are other things too like tennis, baseball and a large field. A proper set of bathrooms are available as well as a concert stage and a nice grass area for outdoor events. All of this is intermixed with professionally done flowers and shrubs that would give a botanical garden a run for it's money. There is a attractive 9/11 memorial waterfall and a museum! (Did i mention this is a nice place.) If you have young kids there is a large area with different things for them to do. The flooring is nice and soft. It has been my experience that many of the park's local attendees are invested in the health and safety of the wildlife, so if your young kid starts messing with turtles, or running after the ducks, that's not going to go over too good. To me that's a plus. There's a good amount of parking around the lake, usually plenty to handle the number of people there but it's spread out. Just be aware, you'll likely be fine unless there's a big event there. Overall, This is in my top 2 parks on Long Island, and I've been to many of them. read more

Recently, I've been looking for nice parks in the Woodbury area to spend some time with my family. We decided to make the drive to Heckscher park, which was around 12 min away. At first, we were disappointed. All we could see was a baseball field and an empty grass patch. As we walked inwards, we finally noticed the park! The park is a lot larger than it looks like from the outside and on the map. It is tucked within the neighborhood and behind the baseball field. The actual park is lush and beautiful. There are peaceful honking geese everywhere (watch out for the poop!), cute turtles, calm waters, and plenty of places to sit down and admire nature. In addition, there's a playground for the children with swings and those spinning wheel things. Definitely drop by here on a peaceful afternoon! My family has found our go-to spot now. read more

What a beautiful park to walk around in There's a beautiful pond with fountains in it that run until it gets too cold. There is a half mile or so path around the pond where you can take a walk. There are ducks and swans and turtles in the pond. It is very relaxing. Although I have never been in it, I hear the art museum is nice as well. Another aspect of the park that I have never personally experienced is the playground. It looks like a fun place for children to play. I also noticed there are plenty of places of adults to sit in the playground area. Overall, this is a great park. I enjoy it and recommend it. read more

This is a lovely, lovely walking park! I'm going to estimate a little under a mile to circle the pond. The park is landscaped well and beautifully maintained. There is a playground with swings and such for the kids. Expect flowers and small wildlife (squirrels, ducks, turtles, etc). There's a museum too but I don't know anything about it. Perhaps not a destination, but this park is great for a stroll if you work in, live in or visit the area. You're also around the corner from Downtown Huntington with plenty of restaurants and shopping. I believe it's street parking only. read more

This is a beautiful little park in the middle of Huntington Village. Lots of trees and kiss. It's nice to walk around when it is 69° out. Don't text and walk or you might get goose poop on your shoes!! Lots of people with strollers walking around the lake without masks on. There are three tennis courts that are in good shape! The park is a gem in the community. It is nestled in a quiet neighborhood of Huntington. It has a beautiful man made big pond with very peaceful ambiance that you'll wanting to stay longer. Playgrounds, sports fields and little gardens are few of what you and your family could see and enjoy. Came here today to enjoy the annual tulip festival - a family oriented community event. Lots of activities were there to explore- from crafts to food and music. I have no little children anymore and I am missing those same kind of family days. I enjoyed the small art museum next to the park. There's a selfie booth that can be shared with social media. Cool! A good stop over place when you are in the neighborhood. read more

I think there are pictures of me here at this park, in diapers, on the kiddie swings, waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the "olden days!!" We've been coming to Heckscher Park for as long as I can remember, back in the days BEFORE the "new and improved" playground (remember the impossibly tall metal slides, the swings, the merry-go-round and the little castle?!? I'm sooooo old!!!), the beautiful Harry Chapin bandstand (there used to be just a rickety wooden structure) and the pond when it was a big, murky mess?!? The museum here is wonderful, the restrooms are CLEAN, the playground is always FULL of kids, the walking path along the lake (pond?) is a great way to stretch your legs during your lunch break, just about any time of year. Tons of special events, including the Huntington Festival in the fall, the Tulip Festival in early May, and dozens of great concerts all summer long. Only "ding" is that there's limited parking, so expect a hike from surrounding streets to get here during popular events. Nice facility, reminder of more "innocent" times, and a GREAT resource for anyone from Huntington and the surrounding area!! read more

Heckscher has become our little go-to park to let the baby on the swings or a stroll around the lake. Its close to home, there's ample parking all around, the play areas are clean and the fields always appear to be in pretty good shape. There seem to be a fair number of events going on throughout the year and there is a summer concert series. A museum sits along one side and there are plenty of benches and tables to relax and unwind on. An ice cream truck is most always parked near the playground and the restrooms so you can get your favorite cold thing while in the summer heat. Overall, we like it here because it's convenient and close to home. For sure we will be back to watch the turtles or the swans. Look for us. read more

Just decided to randomly stop and eat my lunch here. Good choice! Sunshine, nice benches and tables to eat. A great field to set down a blanket or play games. Cute playground for the kids right next to bathrooms and there's an ice cream truck here today!! It's clean and looks well manicured. Polite people for the majority. the pond had lots of geese and fish!!!! There's nice viewing areas where you can sit and observe - read a book - take a "time out" and be in the present.... or a little of it all. I took a few to yelp it because we all need a little nature in our lives. A bit chilly for late April but I'll take it! There's also the small museum here and lots of summer events. Can't wait to come back when the trees have leaves and I can skip the jacket! read more

My wife and came here with our daughter and a friend for an art sale they were having. It is close to where we live and wanted to get the baby some fresh air. We had been meaning to check it out, so it seemed like the perfect excuse. The art sale was kind of a bust. It was kind of what you would expect. However, the park was fantastic. Since that was why I went, it was a great time. There is a giant playground area for the kids and the park is a nice area to walk. There were tons of wildlife, especially the turtles. I didn't expect the turtles. We made a lap around while the baby slept in the stroller and just stopped in the shaded areas to check out the place. We will be back. read more

Lovely fields - of goose crap. I lived across from this place for many a good year and although it is pleasant to look at from afar, up close you get the heebie jeebies... The park is roughly triangular in shape and much bigger than it appears from the road. At the apex of the triangle, there is a pond with a lovely green layer of scum from all the goose crap. They had a big cleanup a few years back where they drained the pond and scooped out the poop but they didn't do anything about the geese so it was a temporary fix. The park does have some nice amenities: kiddie playground, a museum (The Heckscher museum of art) and a large stage area where there are free concerts in the summer. Tennis courts and baseball fields over on the other side of the park complete the picture. All told it is nice but forget about lounging on the grass as the ever present goose turds cover every square inch of the lawns - except by the band shell where they put some fencing to keep the geese out. Parking is on the street around the perimeter of the park. read more

Heckscher Park is one of the best parks I can think of, and that includes Central Park, and Carl Schurz Park. Of course, Heckscher is nowhere near the size of Central Park, but in its current state, it is as nice as Central Park. Heckscher Park was given to the Town of Huntington by August Heckscher, who paid for its development (it was his land). He bought it from Ezra Prime - the pond on the property was his, and it had fish then as it has fish now. Prime had a thimble factory in the area, the historical sign is near the SW corner of the park. Anyway, Heckscher has nearly everything you can think of, and it's free (I think the art museum requires admission, but it's free for Huntington Town residents Wednesdays 2p-5p & Sundays 11a-1p, according to their website. Check it out once everything opens back up #coronalife) There's a lovely walking path around the pond and down through the trees. You can look for turtles, and as of last year (2019), there was even a big snapping turtle living there, he looks like a dinosaur. There used to be a swan nest at the south end of the pond, but that's gone, probably because swans are aggro at baseline and murderous near their nests. If you look carefully, you can see a bunch of fish in the pond, including monster carp that have to be at least 4 feet long. I'm pretty sure fishing is prohibited, though. The playground is very nice, including two sand boxes that are pretty clean. Swings for both big kids and little kids, too. The park is rounded out by athletic fields, tennis courts, and a pretty nice outdoor stage. The park hosts festivals all year, including its annual tulip festival. If you're reading this now in early May, get over there TODAY before all the tulips die. I was there a few days ago and the tulips were spectacular. Social distancing! Masks if you can't! The only drawback to the park is the lack of parking. There's limited parking on the north side of the park. When there's a big festival, they use the Town Hall lot to the South. Finally, one of the nicest things about the park is that the Town does a good job maintaining it. Even with small things like bubblers in the pond to oxygenate it (not the fountains, which are also lovely - I'm talking about the underwater bubblers that look like broken fountains lol). They actively beat back Japanese knotweed at the waterline, as its invasive and won't let up once it gets started. Little things like that, that are not strongly advertised, show me that somebody cares about this park very much. Somebody besides me! read more

Nice little park in Huntington is a good place to escape from the busy downtown. Plenty of green space, a playground, trail around the pond and the Heckscher Art Museum are located here. Just be careful walking along the paths since they are severely littered with goose, duck and swan poop. It's a quiet spot to hang out. They host many festivals here year round as well. I always enjoy coming here and recommend stopping by here if you're in the area. read more

AMAZING park. For those designing parks: look at this one for inspiration. It has everything it needs in a tight space. A museum, a freakin' stage for concerts and stuff, fields to lay around in and play games in, a playground for kids, dogs are allowed, that lake/pond makes this place look very pretty! Pros: 1) GEESE. I love geese and they are much calmer around humans in this park, so you can get pretty close and look at those weird little freaks without them running away. They will probably still hiss at you but that's what geese do and it's great. 2) Scenery/Aesthetic. Small park but every last inch looks like it was designed to look pretty. This park will only make a bright sunny day that much brighter. Cons: 1) Small! I would recommend this park to anyone trying to visit this park :) read more

Such a beautiful place to walk, run, meet up with friends! Lovely water features & sculptures! Chain link fence is quite a bit off-putting, though-wish it were around a section where you could bring your dog, especially for multitudes of Huntington & surrounding area folks in the the non-kid crew who don't come for the playground! If dogs (even leashed ones, maybe only say, before 10 & after 6) were allowed anywhere in this park, there'd be no need for obstacle course walking/running!! Mega #goosepoop !! Yikes! Geese have completely taken over-bummer! read more
