Heckscher Playground is another big playground near an active area in Central Park. I've stopped here many times over the years to watch the children play. These are some of my photos from over the years posted with my review. I'm pretty sure the children are adults now! I have stopped including children in my photos since I took these. This was a busy beautiful weather day in June right after the children were out of school for the summer. This playground has a lot of free space for running off all the energy after being cooped up all Winter. I bet this Summer after the Covid Boredom Winter you'll see a lot of fun going on in this playground!

Huge playground area that is part of Central Park and right off one of the entrances, so its easy to find. Grass fields, ballparks, large rocks, fountains to play in on a hot day, swings, sand areas, this park has it all. Nice spot to being the kids.

Finally had a chance to try this playground! We all had an awesome time. The little guy really loved to climb on everything on the west side of the park. It features a sand area with some structures, some flat spaces with some soft material and artificial grass for playing games/sports, slides, swings, and some concrete structures with pyramids and parapets to climb on. I love to see the juxtaposition of the playground against the skyscrapers at the edge of the park/midtown.

Super fun area of the park. Very social atmosphere lots of people, families, kids, everyone just enjoying a day out.

Very large playground park located in central park soon as you come in from the Manhattan side. We walked all around it and saw the cool things that it had to be definitely great to take my kids there

Huge playground near the manhattan entrance of Central Park. Didn't have any kids with me but it looked like it would be a tremendous amount of fun for the young ones. Lots of tall hills to climb that they integrated into playground. So that was cool to see

If I could pick up this park and plop it down in Boston Commons, I would. It's simply perfect, both for kids and adults. Kids have some unique concrete climbing 'hills' with ladders going down into tunnels (which we pretended were sewers because THAT IS HOW WE ROLL), bridges to run across, and a great water component which is perfect for a hot day. There are typically so many kids there, a great cross section of diversity from the city. Adults will have fun sitting out, people watching. The giant rocks that surround the playground are fun for relaxing on. My niece had as much fun scaling those as she did playing on the actual playground. There is also an area for smaller kids, so they don't get trampled by the older ones.

Newly renovated park is the largest in central park and great fun for the kids. It has a stream that crosses over a number of "hills" with tunnels and ladders and terminates in a set of sprinklers. The park also has a sand area, two of the biggest slides in the city and numerous swings. There's a lot of open space with soft surfaces for playing as well. The playground is located at Seventh Avenue & Central Park South from 61st to 63rd Streets.

Nice playground. Be warned, tons of sand and water. Would recommend coming prepared for that.

Besides that, I never paid much mind to the park, especially in light of the fact that it's not in my stomping grounds. Nevertheless, I had just finished brunching nearby and since it was such a gorgeous day out, I decided to take a walk through the park and check it out. MSP is not large - the center of it is a large green space with paths on the perimeter that contain walking paths and benches. In addition to the Shake Shack, there's also a small seating area nearby where you can sit and eat, or just hang out. The park is ideal of people watching, eating your lunch, or just walking around a space that contrasts the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas. Because of the weather, it was a little crowded but still pleasant. Overall, MSP is fine - it's not worth coming to unless you're in the area IMO, but a pleasant spot nonetheless.

It also hosts some public art exhibits, like one in the park through March 29, 2026 - Larry Bell: "Improvisations in the Park." My husband and I walked through the park a couple of times when we stayed in the neighborhood this past weekend. We spent our time walking through the park on one occasion to see the works included in the Larry Bell exhibit. Overall, a fine park for a walk through as a tourist, but probably more of a park for locals to enjoy the outdoors, dog run, and playground. In warmer weather, it's a nice park to sit and enjoy the sunshine or even grab lunch (from the Shake Shack in the park).

We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. The court on the westside highway is still my favorite in the city. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
