I stayed at roughly Central Park West and 100th during a recent trip to NYC. I was in the west side of the park twice during my trip. The park is beautiful and well maintained. One day I walked across the park to get from the West side to the East side. You have to walk or take ground transportation. There is no subway that will get you across the park. Central Park West, lines the west side of Central Park, stretching a little over 2 miles from West 59th Street to West 110th Street. Big beautiful high rises line the streets. The most famous being the Dakota. You can also find The Museum of Natural History and a few blocks north, the Guggenheim I Love grabbing breakfast and coffee and taking a nice long walk on CPW. It's a beautiful part of the park. You can spend days and hours here and every time you walk through it's a new experience. Around 72nd you can find Strawberry Fields, the John Lennon tribute. and up around the 90's there's the Jackie O reservoir, which on the right day the colors from the sun on the fountain are magnificent. Beautiful scenery and perfect picture taking. If you're a runner, it makes for a perfect jog. read more

I always love coming to Central Park. The park itself is huge. It is quite busy on nice sunny days. You will find free tours happening here along with carriage rides for tourist to city bike rental to free skating in the winter time. Depending on the season you are here, there are lots going on and there is always something for everyone and every season. There are many benches for people to sit and enjoy. You can go grab some food from the food truck stands and than come here and eat at the park. Most of the Food stand is in the lower west side of Central Park. I heard that they have performances in the summer time. It is a great place to have a picnic or a place to just stroll around the park. read more

As someone who runs Central Park on a weekly basis I get to see every side of this wonderful park. Many times I head over to the west side to have a drink with friends afterwards. The avenue along the west side of the park has a more upscale "haughty taughty" feel with its high class buildings and landmarks. One being the Dakota where John Lennon lived, and where he sadly died. Walking along the park on this side you'll definitely see some expensive luxury apartment buildings. Museum of Natural History, and many street vendors selling art and such by the entranceways. Many musicians can also be found along the west side of the park entertaining the masses. If you're a runner the west side of the park can be moderately challenging with it's rolling hills, but the great views on this side helps one get through it. read more

Not to be confused with Central Pork Wets, which is where pigs pee themselves. Basically the main street of the Upper West Side even though some of the other streets, such as Amsterdam, have a lot more stuff on them. This is where all the most expensive apartment buildings on this side of Manhattan overlook the beautiful expansive Central Park. John Lennon lived and died here of course, as do many many other rich and famous people. There could be better food options, especially street, budget and ethnic food, but then the people in these parts would probably rather pay through the nose for fine dining. read more

A good street for sightseeing. It runs much of the Upper West Side. There's always so many tourists. It's hard to find anyone who actually lives on this street. When you consider who much it costs to live here, most people probably aren't living there. It has some large apartments. One of these is the Dakota, where John Lennon and other celebrities have lived. It's just one of many big apartment buildings. Other buildings include the museums. The American Museum of Natural History is located at about 79th. It's good for a stroll through a very nice area. It attracts lots of tourists. Stay away from the rip off street vendors. read more

I love Central Park West. I'll be there next week on my way to an appointment on the West Side. I used to live on the West Side many moons ago. I'm still fond of my old hang outs. The West side of the park is beautiful. To me it feels a little more historic than the East Side. There's a higher end dignity to the space. I could be imagining it. Walk around the park East and West and form your own opinion. No matter how you divide it up Central Park is a miracle to me! Always LOVED coming to Central Park! First off- this park is HUGE as you may have already read. Also- it is the perfect place for people watching (don't judge me lol). It's always a wide variety people that come here from all cultural backgrounds and it's always something going on here in the spring/summer wether it's a "Summer SoundStage" concert or just people dancing on the lawn or reading a book (like me!). It's always great energy here, nice breeze and on a sunny day you can't beat it. They have city bikes that you can rent somewhere around here and for a nominal fee, they have the carts that sell water , hotdogs and ice cream. The museum is near here, there is a zoo here in the park and you have the "Great Lawn" where everyone comes to hang out! Overall, it's just a great place to be if you don't feel like doing anything but you wanna feel like you did something. read more

I love coming to Central Park whenever I visit NY. There's so much to look at and paths to walk that I still haven't walked the whole park. The scenery is amazing with all of the trees, art and culture. There's a zoo, carousel and play area for the kids or adults. The lawn area is great for sitting out relaxing. I've always wanted to do a horse & carriage ride as a date. If you live in NY that would be a great date idea if you haven't done it yet. read more

(I know I'm a horrible Yelper. With no obligatory establishment shots and since I never believed in food porn photography anyway, you'll just have to use your imagination.) While not my idea of fun, I was in NYC for my daughter's eighth grade school trip to the Museum of Natural History (review may or may not be coming in the future). After about two hours we had enough of that overpriced disappointment and just decided to spend the rest of our afternoon bumming around Central Park. We had a great time heading over to the swings at Diana Ross Playground and just taking a nice stroll across the Great Lawn. It would have been nice to have seen Belvedere Castle but the castle and most of the area around Turtle Pond was a mess of construction during our visit in May. Eventually we meandered over to Strawberry Fields then we turned south and bisected the park on our way to Saint Patrick's only stopping at the Dairy Visitor Center to buy umbrellas as it started to pour. On the way back we mostly skipped the park, instead choosing to take West 59th to Central Park West. It was a nice four mile or so round trip trek and overall our time in and around the park was surprisingly great although I'm sure the rain and it being a weekday had something to do with keeping the crowds to a minimum. Overall beautiful and a big time shout out to the Central Park Conservancy for keeping it that way! read more

Central Park is a great city park. The Central Park Conservancy does an exemplary job keeping up and improving the park. Recently the area near W.88th street and Central Park West was refurbished and they did a fabulous job improving the landscaping, drainage and irrigation. Today I walk around the reservoir during my lunch break. The cherry blossoms were out and the grass was as green as in Ireland thanks to all our recent rain and the reservoir was sparkling! Of course being in Manhattan the walking path was "a bit" more crowded than when I walked around the lake where I used to work in NH, but on the other hand, you couldn't veer off and find Billy the $1 hot dog guy during your walks up there! read more

Used to live at the 1920's Twin Tower "Eldorado" on 90th Street and have fond memories of taking the Central Park West bus to school. If you start on 72nd street (Home of Yoko Ono - The Dakota) perhaps cross the street to Strawberry Fields for a moment of reflection. Then head uptown where you'll pass The Natural History Museum between 77th and 81st. MUST visit especially for kids. It really is a nice walk as you'll pass historic buildings and have the park entrances on the right. Goes all the way up to 110th Street -- where you can take the train back downtown. read more

The park used to be my favorite place to go to, when I lived in Manhattan. There's a tree right in the middle of the field and I named that tree with a cute name. It's a big park. We try to walk around the park every year between spring and fall. This time I entered the park from Central Park West. Hubby had a business around the area so I got to enjoy the park early morning. It was quiet and peaceful. Due to the spring time, I captured some photos of some trees while the flowers were still blooming. It's beautiful. The entire park is beautiful. Better get there fast! Always pretty, always there for you to walk, run, or bike through. Stay away from the vast majority of street vendors near the Museum of Natural History. Those guys are price gougers. Water is plentiful here through the various fountains. It's easy to fill up your own bottle. Don't spend $3-5 at the vendors when you can get it for free. Come prepared to walk up and down rolling hills and various spots that get direct sun. You can either pop in for lunch and sit on a random bench or venture deeper into the park to take in the sights and sounds. From this side you have direct access to the river and lake boats just past the bridge as you venture inward. Or find yourself immediately at the runners and bikers lanes if you are planning on getting some exercise. read more

Central Park West is the Avenue that abuts Central Park just to its West. Marathons, walks and Thanksgiving parade utilize this avenue. Many famous landmark and buildings can be found on CPW. From the South up you have Columbus Circle, the Dakota, the San Remo, the New York Historical Society, the Museum of Natural History and on up to Frederic Douglas Circle. Trains stops are 59th (A, C, B, D), 72nd (C,B), 81st (C,B), 86th (C,B), 96th (C,B), 103rd (C,B), 110th (C,B). Many famous people live on CPW. Unless you are a multi-millionaire you will never be able to afford to live there (except above 96th street where it is still a little rough). read more

Central Park West along with the rest of the park and neighboring surroundings are absolutely beautiful!!!! I am currently waiting on the line for tickets to see Shakespeare In The Park's summer season show of "Taming of the Shrew". Everyone else that is waiting has been lovely and it is quite a great day for enjoying the park since today boasts wonderful weather. I have been sitting for about 15 minutes in line and have had the pleasure of seeing passersby walking together, children playing, beautiful horses (policemen are riding on them) and the cutest dogs! So beautiful in the fall when the flowers are in bloom but the tree leaves are starting to fall. I have gone twice in a week. There is a small waterfall that a lot of people take a photo of. It's Central Park! It's beautiful and it's huge. It's a nice little refuge from the business of the city. On a nice day you'll find street musicians, pets, couples, families, etc. It's a great place for walking around, taking pictures, trying to find some grass amidst the concrete jungle, people watching, etc. read more

Central Park West is simply beautiful. The area has several trails for bike riders, joggers and walkers. The park itself is lined with enormous trees and manicured lawns. It also has many dimensions. In the center, you'll find a large grassy area where many people can be seen lounging. Central Park West is very busy. Depending on the section of the park that you enter, you may see a rather high volume of dog walkers around. Almost all of the owners, unleashed their pet one morning while I was hanging out there. I wondered if this section was actually part dog park. I noticed this around the 90s streets and Central Park West, however on a separate visit, entering on the mid 60s streets, there were far less dogs and way more benches. You will find variations throughout Central Park depending on which area you enter. There are benches located throughout the park as well as carts with refreshments. Central Park is an important and necessary part of New York City. read more

Central Park in general is MAJESTIC. There really isn't any other word that I can think of to describe this place. To be honest, I can't differentiate between the different directions of Central Park being from out of town but the sheer scale and contrast between this area and the rest of New York City is simply awe-inspiring. When you're in the middle of it, you can't even tell you're in a huge metropolitan city, The grounds are meticulously maintained and with so much to see and sense, it makes walking and exercising enjoyable, even for someone like me who typically avoids physical activity. This is a true gem for the city of New York and one that I would continue to visit to explore new areas. read more

My only impressions of Central Park prior to going to New York where what you see on crime shows. I was pleasantly surprised by the manicured areas, flour, and blooming trees. I did not feel in the least bit unsafe. We walked from the west side to the Eastside to go between two museums. We even saw the iconic New York joggers using the area on a warm spring day. We also observed several dog walkers trying to round up there menagerie. The rock formations and playgrounds interspersed throughout the park are beautiful. The pathways are easy to navigate using either Google maps or maps that are located throughout the park. I would say Central Park is another must do when you come to the area. read more

Sure, Central Park gives this street reason to live. However, it's the museums dotting it that will keep you returning to this area. From the Metropolitan Museum to the Natural History Museum, CPW has plenty to keep you entertained, and is also the prime location for many New York City parades, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
