I will definitely return :) I usually rely on acupuncture when I acquire strains or pains that don't respond to self-therapy (massage, ointment, rest). I don't like to take meds, so acupuncture is a great way to help my body heal itself. The difficulty is finding someone you like... Enter Heidi into my life! I recently had horrible lower back pain that wasn't attributable to any obvious injury... I was clearly overdue for some maintenance. Luckily, Heidi emailed me back immediately and booked me at her Union Square location! She performed this technique that was new to me (it made my muscles dance:), and I felt so much better when I left. I was referred to Heidi by a friend after suffering a concussion this summer. I had debilitating headaches and nerve pain that made my head feel like it was being "buzzed" by electricity constantly. I was desperate to get some relief as nothing was working. I had never experienced an acupuncture treatment, but understood the concept. My initial visit to Heidi started with a complete review of my overall general health and what was troubling me. I had no idea at the time that Heidi had worked with athletes, so a concussion was something she was very well aware of. After my first treatment, my headache and buzzing dropped from a 10 to a 3 within a few days. Each day I felt better. The second treatment a week later really helped more and within another week, the headaches and buzzing were completely gone. Such relief! Knowing that my body was receptive to acupuncture, I asked her if she would be willing to work on an old leg injury. She promised nothing, but said it would be worth a try. I injured my IT band 7 years ago in a fall. As a result of the fall, I ended up with a hip replacement as well. Over the next 6 sessions which started out weekly and then moved to every other week - then every 3 weeks, I could actually feel a major shift and change in the way my leg was healing. Not only did Heidi provide acupuncture, she also employed Gua Sha (a form of Chinese medicine). This brought amazing changes to the scar tissue that had formed in my leg from the injury and surgery. To my amazement, the constant ache in my leg began to lessen. It's now to the point where I can play golf without pain. I've even begun to play almost every day without having to take an Advil or ice my leg. From agnostic to believer, I better understand just how quickly acupuncture can resolve an issue in the body. AcuBrooklyn, via a coupon deal, was my first foray into acupuncture -- something I'd always been curious about but never got around to trying. I have chronic neck tension and migraine issues that Heidi thought might be related. It's hard to say if the acupuncture itself provided much relief (I do think it offered some, but I probably would need to continue for a longer stretch to really tell), but my experience at AcuBrooklyn was excellent. Heidi is such an easy-going, calming, kind individual that she really made it so... even as the entire back of my neck was covered in needles! Unfortunately, acupuncture is expensive... though Heidi did offer a discounted rate to come back for follow-up sessions after I'd used up the coupon allowance. Overall, if I'm ever able to commit to acupuncture on a more regular basis, I'd *definitely* come back to her. read more

If you are around me for more than five minutes and tell me about a physical ailment, I will tell you about the magical Heidi. She is someone I look forward to seeing as much as possible, and often I won't even realize how in pain I am until her needles release the tension that has been stored up, all week/month long. I have seen her for a grocery list of ailments (allergies, smoking cessation, back pain, shoulder pain, acid reflux, digestion, aches from running), all of which have VASTLY improved under her care. You will never get a doctor who calls you back, or monitors your care. Yet Heidi leaves messages following up on your treatment plan, and she's also a great listener. Almost 10 years ago, I found out I had GERD and a hiatal hernia. I responded to medication at first, but after a while, it stopped working. Things kept getting worse, and I have seen about 6 or 7 different doctors, each one telling me something different was wrong and putting me on more medication. I finally had enough, and had a good response with acupuncture for back pain, so I thought, why not try for this? I'm so glad I did. In 10 years, this is the first time I've felt relief. I am a marathon runner with a long history of overuse injuries. I went to Heidi for the first time today, after having had a so-so experience of acupuncture at Pacific College. All I can say is, she definitely changed my feelings about this type of treatment...I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is very empathetic, listening carefully and speaking thoughtfully, and this translates into her practice--she uses her hands to find areas in your body that need to released/ relaxed/ experience flow, and then does so adroitly and with compassion. I had a great deal of upper back/shoulder/neck pain after a car accident. I tried massage but it didn't seem to help much. After reading the great reviews here, I decided to see Heidi, and I'm so glad I did! Heidi seems to instinctively know the spots that feel sore and need treatment - she immediately puts her finger right on it (literally!). When I'm being treated by her, I can feel each muscle she works on release immediately. Heidi is also warm and friendly and really cares about her patients. You can tell that she has a passion for this work and that it's important to her to help people get the best relief from their ailments. In fact, I really appreciated the fact that when my pain kept recurring after several treatments with Heidi, she recommended that I see a chiropractor to see if I had more of a structural problem. It turns out that I did. You know that someone cares about getting you the best treatment when rather than continuing to treat you yourself, they send you to someone else when necessary! I will definitely return to Heidi after I have a few chiropractic visits - seems that the acupuncture will "hold" better once I'm properly aligned. read more
