Bert and his crew have installed several successful projects for us: front foundation removals and planting, a garden terrace wall, digging a rain garden, a grape arbor and most recently, a stand of bamboo by the pool to create a privacy screen and a stone drainage swale for heat pump runoff. Bert, the landscape architect, has good design sense and works with me to achieve the look I'm going for in my mostly native and unorthodox garden. The crew is fast, efficient and pleasant. i've been doing business here for years and was always happy until a couple months ago when I bought six plants all at the same time and planted them all in the same area and did the exact same thing to all of them. Three survived and three did not. I asked for a replacement or a refund and was refused. I was offered a 20% discount on my next purchase. I reached out to Heinz Nurseries after waiting six months for another local nursery, that after repeated attempts , never got back to me. Within two weeks, Bert Alligood was at the house getting suggestions, sharing ideas, taking pictures and measurements. I told him that the area outside my back garage door has never really looked good in the 32 years we lived there. I told him to WOW me and he did not disappoint. Terrible customer service despite what their website reads. Their lawn service destroyed tagged native plants that I had planted on my property, including those over a beloved pet's grave site which brought my young children to tears when they saw what had been done. Their office staff strung me along for months and after I had to call them back repeatedly, staff put me in touch with management that was unmoved by the damage they caused and refused to replace the three plants. I even said I'd be willing to plant them myself and the situation could have easily been ameliorated by them simply replacing the plants, but they refused. Contract with another nursery. read more

Bert and the team at Heinz recently constructed a hardscape front porch at the entrance to my home, created a hardscape access point for a gated, fenced area of my property, planted and landscaped the flower beds of my front yard, placed several trees throughout my front and rear yard, and created a sailed/drained river rock parking are for my boat. All work was completed outstandingly well, promptly, and at very competitive prices. Bert and team were helpful, professional yet friendly, considerate of my property, and generally a pleasure with whom to do business. I purchased 4 Elaeagnus from Heinz Nurseries. I talked with them regarding instruction on planting and did so accordingly. Less than a month, the leaves began turning yellow and fell off. All research indicates a root fungus. I called and spoke with Bert who indicated I needed to email the nursery with photos. So, I did this (TWICE!!). I even told "Bert" that I wasn't looking for a refund and just wanted to replace with new plants. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN NO-FOLLOW-UP OR NO RESPONSE TO A CUSTOMER. read more

This review ONLY regards the sod Heinz Nurseries sells. The place is very well organized and I think probably has some great products. The following represents my opinion. Heinz openly tells you they do not warranty the sod they sell. Great warning. I recently bought St. Augustine sod. It was the poorest sod I ever bought. Ever. And Ive bought maybe 20 pallets of sod in my life. Granted it was early in the sod season when I bought the sod and the grass in general wasn't in the best shape so soon after winter. In that is the case, Heinz ought not even be selling it. No one should. What bothered me was the fellow I spoke had no sympathy for the fact that I told him that some of the sod was so thin it probably wouldn't even grow. And that some of it was so completely brown it was obviously on a pallet for too long somewhere else before Heinz sold it. Just terrible shape. But hey, no warranty is what they said and I didn't get the message. I won't buy sod from Heinz again. Like the sod, I'm not warrantied as a customer. read more

There was an issue with the job and some of the employees working on our yard. Unfortunately, not trustworthy and a little sketchy. I hate saying so because this was one experience. I then called and finally spoke to Mary Heinz who was nasty, arrogant, the opposite of a Customer First approach - especially as an owner. Do not use such a company who's Top Manager is condescending, mean, a bad listener and only cares what is best for her. One of the worst experiences I have ever had in Tallahassee. Get your pine straw from Putnal's Pinestraw on Bannerman. Get your landscaping needs from more reputable organizations like Espositos or Tallahassee Nurseries. If the leader of an organization doesn't care about the Customer, neither will the people who work under her. read more
