This review concerns only Esposito's lawn spray service. To put it politely, if I could rate it as less than "not good," I would. It has been awful. Although a tech came as scheduled for many months, neither he nor his supervisor correctly diagnosed the issue with a formerly lush St. Augustine lawn (fungus). The fungus spread and has engulfed the yard. Had it been diagnosed correctly and had I been advised of what was necessary to do, I'd have done it. Esposito's service was canceled. I have written to Mr. Esposito about the issue and invited him to see it for himself; so far, I have been ignored. Despite daily television ads, many print media ads, and the familiarity of the Esposito name, neither quality of service outcomes nor customer service is part of the business plan. read more

I hired Mr. Ralph Esposito of Esposito Garden Center on September 20th, 2023 to build a very large retaining wall and install proper drainage in my backyard, which is slanted on a hill and some of it around a pool. I had struggled with drainage problems for many years. My existing wooden wall had finally collapsed after an especially strong storm. I hired Esposito because of its reputation as a trusted company and the detailed plan that Ralph Esposito designed for the project. Because of its magnitude, it was a very expensive project. I paid Esposito over $60K and extra to my contractor to install a gutter in my neighbor's yard to help redirect some of the water on our shared hill. Esposito worked on building the wall until late December 2023. It looks great. But, as the saying goes, looks aren't everything. At the beginning of 2024, after another serious storm, I was back where I began with a dark dirty pool and unsolved drainage problems. Because of a failure in communication, I hired a construction attorney to help mediate. I tried so many times to reach Ralph, who had been so gracious during the project, so large and complex that Esposito's CEO Ms. Mary Kelly visited the site as it was being built. All that good vibe and will went away and my repeated requests for true completion of the job as per contract were met with band aid shotty work that not only structurally but also as far as optics left much to be desired. I wrote many emails, left messages in Ralph and his assistant's mailboxes, and with my best and hopeful attitude asked for the project to be completed well as per contract repeatedly via my attorney, who managed to have only one call with Ralph in the months he spent mediating with his assistant. In July of 2024, my attorney finally submitted a formal Notice of Breach of Contract that gave Esposito one month to complete the work and submit all relevant materials to the project. My attorney never received even an acknowledgement of the formal Notice and the deadline passed without any action on Esposito's part. They didn't even have the courtesy of responding to my attorney, who clearly explained that I did not want to go to court but for them to complete the work promised in the contract. Ralph's assistant was left with this job, at least indirectly acknowledging to my attorney that there were legitimate problems with the job that needed to be addressed. Cutting corners became their way of fixing them, and I eventually hired my contractor to complete the job to the tune of $20K. The final numbers for this project, including contractor work and attorney fees, are dizzying. There is no way that I could have done more to bridge the communication gap myself. Esposito ignored both me and my attorney, showing up twice for half an hour to not fix the problems mentioned in my attorney's many communications. The workers sent to my property (I was home both times) did not have a clue about what they were doing or about the project as a whole. They were bandage workers sent to show that they were doing something, even though nothing to address requests for proper completion in our many communications. My contractor fixed all problems with Esposito's retaining wall, all structural and included in my attorney's appeals for completion in his emails. My attorney's formal Notice of Breach of Contract was simply brushed aside and not taken seriously. What I wanted from Esposito was good communication and results, none of which I got even after hiring an attorney to mediate. I am publishing this review online and on the Better Business Bureau site so that potential future customers know about my terrible experience when considering hiring Esposito for drainage work in their properties. Negative reviews like this one call for the respective business to respond and attempt to minimize the stain on their reputation. That ship has sailed. There is nothing Esposito can say to me now after more than a year of good will attempts to communicate and resolve an issue that only required good will and professionalism on their part. Reputations are maintained by proof of respect for customers, good works, and genuine attempts to respond to customer needs and grievances. A massive project like the one I embarked with Esposito deserved at least that much. read more

My SIL called several florist the day of my mother's birthday to see if a bouquet could be delivered the same day. Esposito's was the only one who said yes, they could. Later that same day, a young man delivered a most lovely bouquet of flowers with a happy birthday balloon swaying above it. The flowers are fresh, bright and cheerful! Esposito's is a "garden center" and has a wide array of items for your yard and garden. But hidden inside the store is a little gem of a florist. The crew are always spot on with the cutting and maintence and I can't recommend them enough. I go into Esposito's today to get some plants and black cow. I go around to the back after paying to get it picked up. No one never showed up so I called into the store for help loading my black cow still no show. So eventually I loaded it myself it it wasn't easy being disabled. read more

Customer service is terrible! We have been customers for many years with thousands of dollars spent over that time for lawn and shrubbery spraying. I began noticing some kind of growth taking over a large gardenia bush leaving it with no leaves on most of it, a bush in the front yard dying and another one next to it with what looked like singed leaves on the top of it. I also had an issue with the bill which jumped $36 with no warning and no call prior to the spray team coming out. The spraying supervisor came out and assured me she would send off samples of the affected bushes and also determine if my billing was correct. Weeks went by with no contact. I called her again and was told I was overcharged and I was entitled to a $36 credit. No samples had been obtained however. More weeks go by and now I find out that the billing department knew nothing of the promised credit! Still no samples have been collected. I have discontinued my shrubbery service and I would never recommend this company. read more

Ralph's folksy and personable ads air frequently, but the business is more concerned with annual profits than perennial customers. I explained I had not lived in this area and trusted advice on what to buy and how to plant azaleas - about $200 for 21 plants and supplies. I watched numerous YouTube videos and followed the collective advice precisely. After a spraying application that we also signed up for, a healthy row of plants that had thrived for a couple months died. I don't accept this a coincidence and after numerous exchanges, no compensation was given. Very pleased with their main competitor on Thomasville Road. read more

Nope. I'll start with the positive: The actual customer service is solid, and the folks who work here are nice. But the product...I had a terrible experience. I initially hired Esposito to handle my fertilizer and pesticide about 1.5 years ago. In that time, my back yard got progressively worse. To be fair, areas up front improved, aside from a huge burn spot of what looked to be an over-fertilized area from a technician who came out once and was fired before my next round (I guess others had a bad experience?). This ended up killing a baby Crepe myrtle, and was not replaced despite a promise that it would be replaced (and several requests for it to be replaced). But overall, the yard got worse. I'd have to constantly keep an eye on the yard to make sure weeds and insects weren't spreading. The spray that they use didn't seem to work consistently on bugs, because they'd return weeks after spraying. Our PH level went up and damaged some flowers, and I can't prove that it was from the constant spraying...but them needing to return to re-spray areas probably didn't help. We ended up getting an infestation of moles. When we'd tell different people in the department about the issue, they'd say "moles are good for irrigation" and "there's nothing we can do." This was contradictory with another technician, who said it was the worst case of moles he's ever seen. They've destroyed our gardens and our yard. It's excessive. Our neighbors don't have this issue, and they don't pay $750 annually for a fertilizer/pesticide service. While digging up for our garden, we found a dozen grubs in a small space. So I question how effective the pesticide actually is...it seems like the moles have a buffet more often than not. Gave them one more shot in the spring to fix the yard. They tried. But the final straw was the suggestion to buy plugs to fix dead areas in the yard...which we did, through Esposito. A month later, invasive Bermuda grass appeared in patches predominantly in areas where we planted the centipede plugs. The technician told us there was nothing he could do for Bermuda grass, and that we'd have to spray Roundup then cover the area comprised by the invasive species. We've lost 1/4 of our back yard doing this, and different patches of Bermuda grass continue to pop up. So after 1.5 years and more than $1,000, plus spending our own time and extra money fixing the yard, it's worse now than it was before...with no clear end in sight. If you want to spend more money to make your yard worse than it was before, then this is the service for you. If not, I can't recommend you go with these guys. read more

I like going to Esposito's over the big box stores because the staff there know a lot about the plants, and they can give you information on what would be a good plant for say a butterfly Garden, hummingbirds, edible plants or what plants need a lot of sun and what plants don't. I have been going to Esposito's for many many years, staff are courteous and friendly and always help. If you want to support a local store, shop Espositos. PS. I called to get an estimate on a sprinkler system and got it scheduled. On the scheduled day they were supposed to show up at 9 am. At 9:17am the lady over the irrigation department called me and told me they weren't doing appointments today. I assumed because it was raining(that's understandable). She offered to reschedule for the following Tuesday same time 9am. Well today is the appointment day and they didn't show. I called at 9:40am just for the same lady to tell me that they weren't doing appointments and her guys were already out doing installations. She asked my name and claimed she never talked to me. I remembered talking to her and I remembered her name. She forgot to write my name in is what I believe and instead of apologizing she kept saying she did not talk to me. I understand we are humans and make mistakes but what person just calls saying they have been waiting on someone to come out for a scheduled appointment? The sod department estimater Cedric was awesome, showed up when he was scheduled and even came on the rain. The irrigation department could learn a few things from the sod area. read more

Esposito is a Garden Center on the more northern end of Tallahassee. The main focus for this store is the plants and plant care. They also have a good variety of decorations as well as tools to use in your garden or yard. I have been here a few times mostly out of boredom while I am in the area, but my favorite time to come here is during Christmas Season. Last year I came to Esposito to buy my Christmas Tree. It was a bit last minute as it was probably the 10th or 12th of December. They sold me a nice tall one that touched the ceiling of my apartment for about $40. They even attach it to your Christmas tree stand. The inside of the store is flooded with lots of decorations, ornaments, and lights. They are probably one of the most elite in this department as most of their items are higher end and cost a lot of money. The good thing about Esposito is that you know you will get quality products here. While they are not the largest, they make sure to have good items as well as great service. The workers know how to take care of their plants and give good tips as to how you should take care of stuff. I visit maybe once a month now just to see if they have anything cute for the upcoming holidays. It may be a ceramic turkey for the dinner table, a wooden carving of an Easter bunny, or just a rainbow flag to welcome Spring! read more

Update to previous review. After positing my previous review I was contacted by Frank Esposito about my grass situation for the wedding. He was very concerned about the grass and came out to the house to actually see what was happening. 2 days later we had an entire yard crew arrived at the house to push mow, raking and blowing the grass to make it look its best. While there was nothing really to do about the rye since it was days before the wedding they provided some nice mulch and sod in some areas around the house. A little bit of rain occurred which made the grass give a last minute pop of green and thankfully the banquet tables covered some of the sparser areas of grass. I guess my lesson is that if something is not going right take it up the chain of command sooner but I am an optimist and expect good service the first time out. read more

Ralph Esposito just canceled my mom's service. She is 83 years old and takes pride in her yard. The yard service has damaged her gate, damaged a couple of statues, damaged her $20,000 driveway/walkway, and cut down one of her plumbago shrubs. They could not get her schedule correct. In the winter, twice a month, yet they would show up every week, in the spring, every week. This last Friday, was supposed to show up, on Saturday called. Said would be there first thing Monday. 9:00 a.m, called. She was dressed and waiting at 7:00 a.m. When I tried to schedule a meeting, he canceled her service. read more

I've always had good plants and good help from the folks at Esposito's. I now have 2 hydroponic buckets which work well, gotten good information from those experts. I hope to get into aquaponics next. Got some great crepe myrtles this year and they're doing well. I'm into bucket/pot gardening and got some good deals on 2 more pots this year. Came in before hurricane Irma to buy charcoal. Was sold the expensive Big Green Egg brand. I asked if I should also buy some lighter fluid and was told I didn't need to as the charcoal would start itself. Well, that did NOT happen. When I read the lighting instructions on the bag, I was instructed to use the "Big Green Light Natural Charcoal Starters." Expositos, you just lost my confidence. This comment relates to the irrigation repair unit at Esposito's: avoid at all cost! I have spent the past two months having one appointment after another end up a no show or a last minute cancellation with a promise to get back with me shortly. The communication within the company is poor, which results in having them cancel and reschedule a job. This happened 5 times! After visiting a nearby restaurant, my husband noticed Esposito Garden Center with their seasonal "Everything Christmas" advertised outside. We had just been discussing how we missed our traditional Christmas outing to a local garden center back in Indiana when we were first married. They had a big walk thru Christmas wonderland with different themed trees, fresh garlands and trees, and any type of ornament or decor you could imagine. It really got you in the spirit of Christmas. I get completely lost when I am here. I love the variety of plants, the quality, and the knowledgable staff who are willing to answer my endless questions, calm my black thumb anxieties, and even draw me diagrams to help me understand things a little bit better. I enjoy the fact that most things at Espisito are local or native and it is wasy enough for me to walk in and get everythign I need for a great growing experience, well, besides the ability. I do get the education to enhance my less than natural inclination towards plant growing. It is a bonus that there is a playground that my niece found on our last trip. She had so much fun and the winding way that the Garden is set up makes it feel like you are relaxing in a park rather than walking through a business. Bonus, you get to take home the pretty stuff and keep it! I also love that there are rocks and big slabs to use for pathways for sale by weight. That is beautiful.
