26 years old yesterday, Helen House is built in the ground of St Marys church in Cowley. 6 years ago Douglas House was built along with offices for the staff to do their fantastic work.
Both houses provide end of life and respite care for children and young adults (Helen House up to age 16 and Douglas House up to age 40).
Helen House was the first childrens hospice in the world and the idea for opening the hospice came from the wonderful Sister Frances Dominica who was at that time Mother Superior at the convent. Sister Frances was giving help to a local family whose daughter Helen was very sick which inspired her to begin the childrens hospice movement for which she is famous today.
