Luckily, those two atrocities came after my time. This is a top notch facility with top notch faculty. Even though this school was built in the mid 90's, the upkeep has been well managed. The courses offered cover almost everything a developing young adult could want. After moving away for college and living in other areas, I'v come back to Hoover (Bluff Park) and plan to stay here. Sadly, I've heard negative comments about this school system and our neighborhood. There are always a few bad apples, but I'm proud to have my family here. I was lucky to go to Hoover.

We've attended several Hoover football games and sat on the visitor's side. There are no PA…read morespeakers on that side of the field so forget hearing announcements. They also have police to prevent visitors from going over to the home side, even to watch bands at halftime​. As band parents, our only motivation to go to the games is halftime but that's just not possible at Hoover. The visitor's seating is also very small so if your school travels well, you're not going to have too much room.

If you were black in the early 2000s it was not the place for you. How they treated my brother vs other white boys left a lasting stain on his future. From the glorifying of the confederacy in social studios, to the geometry teacher who repeatedly belittled me, overly intense sports programs especially soccer, students being allowed to openly blurt out how they treat black people in restaurants, this place truly lived up to the Birmingham stereotype. I still recall my lunch table had the black kids, 2 Jewish kids and one Asian girl. I still can't forgive my parents for that god awful experience.
