From the reception area to the doctor, everyone here was professional, kind and caring. I hadn't taken my little dog to a veterinarian for a while because of Covid and other issues. Normally I have an OK experience here. They have recently done a bunch of unnecessary tests and procedures that have come up with no diagnostics. Then when I showed up with an actual emergency, the "office manager" told me they couldn't do anything without anyone actually checking on my animal. She was extremely rude, not only to me, but to all of the other staff working there that day. I ended up going to Bridger and they were actually compassionate and helpful. They are great with my black lab, treating her gently and sweetly while filling her with treats to assuage her nervousness, which wins her over every time! Boarded my cats here for 2 nights. When I checked them in all they asked for was previous vet contact. That's it. I'm from out of state and never boarded my cats before. Apparently they're supposed to have all documents of current vaccinations before accepting the animals for boarding. They didn't ask for that and they didn't tell me that either. I only know this now after speaking with other vets. Being a VET themselves they could offer those services but they said it wouldn't be necessary. The morning I was going to pick them up I got a call that my cat got out of the kennel and supposedly bit a worker and they had called animal control. Their policy is to immediately call animal control. Keep in mind this is an indoor, 12 year old frail, 3lb female cat who has never been aggressive. Obviously the employee doesn't know how to handle animals if she let her out of the kennel to begin with. Nor is she capable of handling a tiny old frail cat. Scratches are part of the territory in a vet office. So are scared animals reacting out of fear. So once I got the call I ran over to the office and they refused to let me even see my cat and said I wasn't able to have a calm conversation with them so I would have to talk to animal control. I'm sorry but once you call animal control you've decided there is no conversation. You should expect someone to be upset. They tell me I have no proof of rabies vaccination for my indoor cat so she has to be quarantined. Now my sickly old cat is quarantined for 10 days because of incompetent unprofessional employees. This is an INSANE over reaction on their part. Not to mention they didn't follow the law until post cat "bite". Then they wouldn't stop insisting what the LAW was. I have yet to know exactly what law my cat or I have broken. All I know for sure is they're incompetent, uncaring, rude, and have a ridiculous policy. Hopefully you'll just go out of business after you've mistreated enough pets. Do not ever take your pets here. They must call animal control daily if this is how they handle animals. read more

Oh boy, where to start?First, there is nothing wrong with the actual doctoring. Now, on to what IS wrong. 2. It is SO noisy in there. When Valley Vet was in the building, it was a tranquil environment, calming for the animals. Now, the front desk pages the doctors on intercom, which you can hear loudly echoing through the building. Really? They can't have a tech fetch the doctor or put one of those colored flip things on the exam room doors? It is not like a huge hospital where you never know where someone is--it's a small practice. And everyone on the staff is talking extremely loudly as they walk back and forth. 3. Front desk staff is is incompetent, rude and does not put the client first. I called to request that my pet's lab test results be emailed to me. The woman who answered the phone said she would get to it, but she didn't even write down my name or ask my pet's name. Since I had another doctor coming to the house the next morning to look at my cat, I stopped in at the office before closing and politely asked the other front desk rep for my pet's records. He said they needed a doctor's signature and a 72-hour wait. That is absolutely ridiculous. There is no HIPAA policy for pets ; there is no reason for a doctor's signature or to wait 72 hours. For goodness sakes, I can get my own records , which are covered by all sorts of legal privacy laws, in 30 seconds from St. Pete or any of my other doctors. So, I waited in the lobby until the doctor was available to sign off. Later, when I read the records, I saw the front desk rep had said quote the owner came in and demanded her records and would not leave even though I told her there was a 72-hour wait end quote. What? I was extremely polite and asking for what was mine. The rep also said he would email me the x-rays later that day, since he couldn't print them, but, of course, I had not gotten them by the end of the business day. The next day, I called and the woman receptionist said she would quote do my best end quote to get the x-rays that had been promised me the night before. I told her that doing her best was not enough because I needed them for another vet visit. 4. Billing policies are abusive. On my first visit they asked me to leave my cat with them for 40 minutes while they ran a blood test and x-rays. When I picked him up and paid my bill, I saw that I was charged for a partial date of boarding for this 40 minutes. The next time I came in to ask about my records, I asked why was this fee charged and the receptionist said he would check into it. Needless to say, I have not heard back about this billing charge although I did see on the records that he commented I had requested an explanation. I guess it did not get over the loudspeaker system back to the vets. read more

My furbaby Sandor l, and I currently see Dr. Dawn (Reisinger). Sandor and I have also seen Dr. Armstrong and have no complaints. I've been going to Helena Veterinary Clinic since I moved to Helena several years ago. Dr. Dawn and the the wonderful staff have helped me say good-bye to my dear 19 year old cat, Katie. During such a crucial time, they were there. Sandor, who came from the Humane Society, later had some issues that stumped everyone, but not Dr. Dawn! Her persistent and positive attitude assured me that he'd be well soon. Nothing but great things to say about Helena Veterinary Clinic! read more

It was time for my 2 dogs to have their shots updated. I had always taken them to Valley Vet , so I made an appt for them there. A couple days later I received a call that Valley Vet had been purchased by Helena Veterinary Service, but I could still bring my dogs in , but needed to come in at a different time as they were double booked. I agreed, thinking the quality care I had received from Valley Vet would translate to the new owners. Not so. The office and waiting room was stark and dirty. I was kept waiting 17 minutes for my appt. The office staff and vet techs were very pleasant, however the vet was pompous, impatient and gruff. He had everyone on edge. He obviously hadn't reviewed the charts of my dogs as he knew nothing about them. I heard " I don't have time for this " at least 3 times during the visit. He recommended cutting the hair of my double coated dog. It was a very stressful visit for all involved. I will never take my dogs back and have secured a new vet for them. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Armstrong. He is very knowledgeable and caring. He helped my family through a very difficult situation. I am thankful that he was the one who worked with us during this time. He has cared for our animals for many years and I would never want to see anyone else. He's a straight shooter and thorough. Pathetic service and awful care. Our dog died due to the lack of care and outreach provided by Helena Vetrinary Services. Our dog was completely healthy when dropped off at the boarding place as our family was leaving the country. Four days later she died on Christmas Day. Our dog became ill and needed attention while we were gone. The owner of the kenell called the vet and asked if she could be taken in. The vet speculated who would cover the cost of the service, as we could not be contacted due to the fact we were out of the country. The owner said he would cover it until we came back. Then he was told the schedule was too tight even though it was clearly a problem as she had not eaten in days and needed care. They only care about how where the money comes from and if they get it, not your dog or caring for them. Another dog another dollar. Don't allow yourself to be cheated or have your dog die at the hands of careless people. It's a freak incident but don't expect anything in the event of your pet NEEDING care in a EMERGENCY. Our dog died on Christmas because she could not be cared for. What morals and values does a business run off of when they allow someone's pet to die during a time of giving and grace. If it doesn't affect their check book, you might as well find someone else to care for your dog before you need it. Don't let yourself be tricked by a joke of a business.
