To start on a positive note, she did agree to take my jumpsuit back for a second round of alterations after I realized it was too tight. I take full ownership for not being more vocal at the initial fitting when she completed the first alterations. That part is on me. After trying it on again at home, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I texted Helena to let her know it was still slightly too tight. I was polite, apologetic, and expressed appreciation for her work. I also explicitly asked how much I owed her for the additional alterations -- I did not request that they be done free of charge. She responded kindly, said she just wanted me to be happy, and told me not to worry about paying more.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I thanked her and reiterated my gratitude. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I brought the jumpsuit back in, the tone shifted. I was scolded and warned that if this "happens again," I would be charged double.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For clarity: I never asked for complimentary alterations. I paid $150 for the original work and simply wanted the garment to fit properly so I could actually wear it in the future. Fast forward to today when I picked it up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked, as standard practice, if I should try it on before leaving. Her response: "Why would you do that? I didn't charge you. You don't need to try it on." The implication that I was being unreasonable for wanting to confirm the fit -- especially after the previous issue -- was unnecessary and unprofessional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wasn't trying to "get away with" anything. I was trying to ensure the service I paid for was completed properly. While I appreciate that she ultimately adjusted the jumpsuit, the attitude and reprimanding were unwarranted. We have taken several things to Helena over the last couple years. She does a good job but I'm not sure we will be back as her prices must have increased drastically!! She charged over $40 per Jean to get hemmed- just shortened not taken in or anything. $85 to hem 2 pairs of jeans is outrageous- almost costs as much as the pants! I brought my wedding dress in to get an estimate on how much alterations would be for the few things that needed to be taken in. When walking into the studio it was very chaotic and not very clean as there was tons of different threading and hair on the floor. Helena and her amazing talent to the rescue! I flew in from Chicago for a wedding that was to start at 2:45pm. At 12pm I decided to iron my dress. Unfortunately, I do not iron very often and did not know I was about to burn a large hole into the front of my dress. I was hysterical! I quickly googled alterations and came across Helena and her fantastic reviews. I called her (still hysterically crying) and she told me to come right over. She quickly calmed me down, took out a piece of chalk and came up with a plan. She told me to come back in one hour. Yelp Review I rarely leave reviews but had to. This happened in May but I just had the opportunity to write. Short version. Not a good experience and I would not recommend. For the price and quality of work, this is not a good choice. Initial call - I asked for an estimate of cost over the phone and she told me I had to go in for accurate pricing. I made an appointment, first available was a week and a half after my initial call. First appointment- Two hours before my appointment I called to confirm because I was going to miss work for my appointment and she told me she had to reschedule. I'm curious when she planned to call me to reschedule had I not called......? but whatever, she rescheduled me for 6 days later. When I get there, all she does is let me know how busy she is and she answered about three phone calls during my appointment. She then advises me that just to hem my bridesmaids dress it was $125 and it was that "cheaper" price because it had no lining. The dress cost $140. It did have a lot of material but still that's crazy for hemming. So I wish I would have gone elsewhere but she had already wasted the time I had to shop around due to her scheduling issues. I didn't want to go somewhere else and not have my dress ready for the wedding. So I said ok I'll pay the $125. I leave my dress and have an appt for a second fitting. Second fitting - I told her the length seemed off like it was crocked and she was totally annoyed then tried to disguise it but saying "I just want you to be happy, I show you" but she basically told me I was not right about the dress being crocked at the bottom and it just seemed that was because of the style of dress. Ok, I mean she is the professional at this. Final fitting and dress pick up - there was a stain on my dress that was not there when I dropped it off!!! The first thing she said was "WHAT DID YOU DO"!!!! And I was caught off guard by what she said, I couldn't believe it. I literally had just drove there fresh out of the shower and no make up. I did not put that stain there. She runs to get ice and tells me she knows all the tricks since she's been working with all materials since forever. I specifically asked, "won't that leave a water stain?" And that's when she said no and she knows all the tricks and all the materials. I'm like ok still optimistic that she didn't ruin my light colored dress. Sure enough, you can still see the stain a bit but you can definitely see the WATER STAIN! When she saw I was upset - she said ok I'll take $10 off and she said "but I was just trying to help YOU out". Lol I'm in shock at this point but I'm like excuse me?? For all I'm paying you!? Then she basically insulted me by saying she would take $25 off because $25 won't make her go poor.. like it would make me poor... she's still not understanding the reason this is happening was because she stained my dress. It wasn't like I was asking for a discount, you literally didn't do your job right so you shouldn't earn what you charged for a job well done. Anyways I gave her $100 but was not happy about it. I didn't like how she approached the situation at all, completely rude. Finally the best part was that aside from the stains, the work was not good. This dress was suppose to have a train but there was no train!And the front of the dress was longer than the back! Lol She literally put the train on the front of the dress. Lol I had forgotten that the day of the final fitting/pick up she called me to tell me she needed more time. I honestly believe that she didn't have my dress ready and rushed to do it which is why it got stained and did not do a good job. I would not recommend this business and I would recommend that she stop taking new clients if it's too much. She had great reviews and I thought that would justify the price but the work and her professionalism is completely subpar. I'm hate to leave such a negative review but I would suggest finding a different place. read more

I have hesitated to leave a review, but the work Helena produced was so poor, I felt compelled to do so. I believe Helena is likely talented but in the three times I visited her business, she repeatedly spoke about having so much to do and having thousands of clients. Regretfully, the work she did for me reflected the clear lack of time (and seemingly, interest) in doing a good job. I brought her a simple, decorative pillow case (see photos attached) and asked that it be opened on one end and straps attached, so it could be used as a bag. Concurrently, my daughter's prom dress had been left with her to do some work on the straps. When my daughter went to a dress fitting, Helena gave her my bag, which she'd finished early. My daughter didn't expect this, so she didn't have cash or a check on her to pay for the bag. Helena sent it with her nonetheless. I thought this was kind of her until I saw the work she'd done on the bag. It was shockingly bad. I have attached several photos that show how poor the sewing was, but what was most absurd is she never made a proper opening for the 'bag' - it wasn't opened beyond the straps. Basically, it barely opened, so it could in no way be used as a bag. When I saw this was the level of care and work done, I quickly went to retrieve my daughter's prom dress from her. When I arrived at her business, there were two clients there. I apologized for interrupting and asked if she'd started my daughter's dress. She said she was going to be soon, but hadn't, so I asked where it was and said my daughter had decided to "go another direction." I was trying to be polite as she had other clients there. I looked and to my surprise, I saw my daughter's full length prom dress scrunched in a ball on the counter. The good fortune was it was literally a foot away from me, so I was able to simply pick it up. Helena seemed to catch on I was not coming back and then asked me for the money for the bag she'd done. Needless to say, I was not going to pay $45 for the bag. The workmanship was beyond unacceptable and I was already taking a loss based on the time we lost going to Helena and the time I'd have to spend taking it somewhere else to get fixed/done. I politely told her she was welcome to call me to discuss it - again, trying to be considerate with her other clients there - and she asked again. I said the same thing and then she pushed me further, so I simply said, "I'm trying to do you a favor not saying anything more at this time." Not long after I left, Helena texted me saying, "Please consider my services as a complementary gift with a value of $45." Maybe this was Helena hoping this would avoid me writing a review, but needless to say, this experience was anything but a gift. read more

Warning: This review is not a five-star review. While I appreciate that others have had those experiences, and I'm very glad for those people, this review reflects my own terrible experience. This was an incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and anxiety-inducing experience. I visited this business in early April with an appointment and multiple spring, summer and business pieces for alterations. Within those four months, 50% of the pieces were rushed and had to be redone, and 25% were destroyed (including jeans). The remainder were done well. I finally received the majority of my items in mid-August by mail, simply because I begged the owner to send them complete or not before I left town and couldn't trust her enough by that point to actually complete the work with enough certainty to necessitate another trip to the Valley. The four months in between left me without my spring and summer clothing which meant I had to buy NEW clothes for certain events and trips, despite multiple trips to the Valley to collect my clothing and begging the owner in-person and via text for an accurate completion date. I was given empty promises, and when items were damaged or shoddily completed, no accountability was taken whatsoever ("The jeans have a manufacturer's defect which I can't do anything about.") I've included screenshots and photos. It's pretty clear that the alterations were rushed and the garments didn't start out with holes and asymmetry. My favorite jeans have been destroyed; I've visited three other tailors and nobody will touch them. I have donated what I can and now have to salvage what is left from the remaining pieces and redo the following: - Three sets of hems, which were asymmetrical from right to left and also within each hem and have multiple loose threads - Multiple holes in multiple garments - A crooked, visible front seam on a dress What went wrong: 1. The business owner doesn't respect appointments and will accept walk-ins on top of scheduled visits, which extends the processing time of your garments at drop off to HOURS, even if you have an appointment and are very clear about how many items you need to drop off. 2. Time management is poor; there needs to be a greater focus on prioritizing processing of incoming garments and real-life humans rather than answering the phone, complaining, discussion of personal life etc. 3. There is no clear invoicing and payment system. Clients are expected to keep track of what they've paid and for which services, or risk a lot of stress and anxiety at pickup time. 4. The business owner doesn't honestly portray her skill set or interest in altering your garments, so it's unclear if your garment will be altered with a specific level of accuracy or quality, or at all. Your clothes may be held hostage for months. 5. There needs to be accountability for having items done when she says they'll be done and at the quality promised. Advice: Approach with extreme caution, clear and firm expectations, don't be too accommodating like I was; also, bring a ledger. read more
