I love this shop! They truly have something for anyone that's pop culture-adjacent! Movie posters (some extra-fun retro posters from the 1970s and 1980s too), graphic novels, earrings, fridge magnets, and even something that so few comic shops bother with these days: a grab bag of kid-friendly comics for the youngest readers. (A side note: you won't find hundred-dollar statues here of comic book women in exaggerated poses. . .you'll see nothing that's not completely family-friendly. We love supporting comic book shops, and Hello Comics might be my favorite travel find in that category despite its cozy size. The diversity of content in stock was great-- we found some niche comic & manga titles we're fans of, a variety of nerdy merch that crossed over into both cooking and video games, a few gacha type wares, and a series of stylized miniature local art perfect for gifting if you didn't feel like springing for a larger traditional poster. We bought a few items that we couldn't resist, and will definitely pop back in next time we're in town. read more

So I am a much more a Game Geek than a comic book geek, but I always pop into comic book stores anyway so when I was in Charlottesville for a business trip I popped into this delightful shop. The owner turned me on to a board game that she said she swears by so I grabbed it for my husband for Christmas (Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt Skullzfyre). It has been the hugest hit in our friend group whether we are playing with just two people or eight, and it's so much fun to read the spells in very idiosyncratic and ridiculous voices. She also had lots of suggestions of comic books and graphic novels I might enjoy as a gamer who loves playing barbarians in D&D. read more

This was my first time at Telegraph! It was a fantastic experience. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable, Kate and Donya (spelling?) were just as sweet to me as they were the regulars that strolled in. If they didn't know something, they found the information immediately. The are having a huge poster sale because they are about to be a "comic book" only store versus a store that also sells artwork. I bought a poster that was marked $15, but it was $10 online and they were very personable and honored the online price. They set me up quickly with the reward program and explained that they could subscribe to comics through them and ordered me some books they didn't have in stock. They have a rating system for appropriate ages, which is helpful, since as a teacher, I tend to go to comic books stores to buy non-traditional text for my classroom (diary of a wimpy kid, Nate the great, calvin and hobbes, etc). They have a wide age range of comic books and a HUGE selection to choose from.They also have a "Ladies Night" coming up in March and I look forward to attending the event and bringing out a friend or two. This will be my new go to spot for sure! read more

Fantastic place. Small but not over crowded at all. Some comic book shops have way too much stuff packed in but this one it's less but much more organized and it's easy to find stuff. Friendly staff too. If I was closer I would be here all day and night for real. They also have manga. read more

Came in here with friends and had a great time! It's a combination shop that houses hand made prints, comics, graphic novels, and other unique print items such as screen print t-shirts and children's toys. For those that hail from RVA, this place felt just like home. I could tell by the displays and the selection of items that this shop is well loved. It's cleanly kept, well organized, and the sections are marked with personable hand written signs. The sales clerk at the desk was also very friendly and approachable. It made stepping into this shop comfortable and easy to browse. In my past experiences at comic/print shops, I've felt awkward lingering due to aloof employees but not here! I will definitely be back and be bringing my fellow nerds, I mean, friends, to check this place out. Regarding the prints, if you're at all a sci-fi fanatic these prints will speak to your heart. In short: they were fantastic, tongue in cheek, and paid homage to some classics. Did I mention they had a shelf for those thrifty at heart with prints that were all $10? That my friend, is a real bargain for custom made prints hand signed and numbered by the artist(s). I'm not sure whether all their prints were/are hand pulled or digitally printed, but based on the feel of the print I'd guess hand pulled screens. Lastly? Check in on your Yelp app! Telegraph will always be my first comic shop, not just in Charlottesville but anywhere period, and I am definitely thankful for that. I first discovered Telegraph when my girlfriend and I came to a Star Wars event here dressed up as Han and Leia. It was a very cute little shop that was extraordinarily colorful with a very nice staff that was really helpful. We came in too late for the costume contest but they were nice enough to give us a consolation prize! (best couple, hoorah) That said, there are a lot of things to love about Telegraph. First things first, I think it is inevitably compared to Atlas Comics on 29 and I think that comparison is sometimes unfair. The sheer number of comics here isn't as much as Atlas, but you will DEFINITELY find extremely unique items here that you won't find at Atlas. They emphasize that they specialize in independent artists and comics, and for good reason, because you can find so many unique things here that are just so cool! There are so many sci-fi, fantasy, and conventional comic-book items here to explore and a lot of cool toys too. Obviously that makes it a great visit for people with kids and younger folks, but obviously it'll appeal to those with kid-like tendencies such as myself. Overall, it's a fantastic place to stop by here and browse just to have fun, and they have stuff here for everyone. S/o to Telegraph for being my first (and great) comic experience! This new gallery on Charlottesville's downtown mall is another fantastic example of the city's ever-expanding cultural and small business-focused growth. Featuring themed shows that rotate monthly (the first one, Monstrous, opened with the gallery last Friday), limited-run original prints from up-and-coming artists, zines, independent comic anthologies, and much more, this is a fantastic place to browse and expand your horizons. Their rotating shows provide an especially unique opportunity to become an art owner, as each original work is sold as a one in a set of limited-run, screen printed posters. In other words, you can pay tens of dollars (rather than hundreds) and still have a chance to own a (for all intents and purposes) one-of-a-kind piece of artwork! Telegraph is fantastic, and I can't wait to visit for the next show. read more

Lovely comic book store! Excellent selection of comics, graphic novels, and kids' books. As the sign on their door says, COMICS ARE FOR EVERYONE, and they mean it! Everyone is welcome at Telegraph. My preschooler found her new favorite book and had fun reading in their pint-size chairs while I browsed the stacks. read more

Great comic store with a terrific section of childrens' books and posters. This location doesn't carry vintage back issues, (or even bags and boards!?) but it's a fund store with welcoming employees that stocks a lot of independent comics and zines in addition to just about every in-print major label trade paperback. read more

Came in with plans simply to browse, but after talking with David about what I was generally interested in, left with series that I don't think I would have ever picked up on my own and am now a huge fan of. My 8 year old son is into graphic novels. On the recommendation of another book store, we stopped by to check this store out. Generally the selection for kids is very small in comic book stores, and generally there is a small selection of graphic novels for kids in book stores and libraries. We were blown away by the selection, and the fantastic recommendations of the owner. She was super knowledgable about what would be great for him, and even recommended some great stuff for my 10 year old daughter. Telegraph is a great gem! It's full of great indie comics and interesting art-- there's no other store like it around the area. Perfect for getting unique gifts for others (plus a few for yourself).
