Cute tiny bookstore inside the coffee shop. We went in for drinks and were surprised to see this.

How have I not reviewed this place yet? This is my independent book store of choice and I will wait to purchase books until I get home so I can support them (though you can order online too!) The used book selection is not as extensive as I remember but it's curated REALLY well. You will find many books that you have wanted, including very recent used ones. There's also a small selection of new books that also are well curated and always seem to already be on my to-read pile. The staff who work here are lovely and always helpful. It's also decorated in such a curious and detailed way. I notice something new every time I'm there. Follow them on Instagram hellohellobooks for fun. I think I have found more in this small bookstore that I wanted to buy than in any large box bookstore. They curate a really welcoming and quirky experience. On their tables, they highlight books that are mainstays and ones that you may have never have thought to pick up. There are quirky literary themed gifts too. My last visit - I came away with 8 literary themed political buttons that said things like "Feel the Verne", "On the right Plath" and "I'm Aimin for Gaiman." SOLD. Hello Hello is the perfect example that bigger is not better. And you should always have a giant jellyfish hanging from your ceiling. read more

A favorite haunt in Rockland where I always can find a good new read and lovely banter with the staff!

I swear if my brain were a book store, it would look like hello hello books!--Charming, progressive, with fun and random little items of amazement around every little corner and shelf. A dreamy independent book shop. I cannot walk into hello hello without buying something. I usually grab a used book from the staff recommendation shelf, and maybe a new book from the well-curated table in the front of the store. More often than not I also buy a cute/progressive/completely essential tchotchke. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and there's always great music playing. Enter by walking through Rock City Cafe, or through the side entrance (but really, you're not gonna grab a coffee? Go through the cafe). read more

Absolute gem of a bookstore that somehow fits an incredibly browse- and buy-worthy selection into a small space *plus* has cool literary-themed and locally-made goodies. There's something to capture anyone's interest, including the youngest (my daughter loved the mailbox to leave a note to a future patron). And they don't mind if you bring coffee in (hopefully from next door because it's local and great). So, it's basically perfect in my book (ha). read more

A true book boutique. Didn't have time to go over every shelf, but for the size of the shop there seemed to be a decent selection of stuff to read, if not the book you came in for. However, the center table of the store had almost every book I'd read reviews of lately and meant to seek out, just sitting there waiting for me. Which was very cool. read more

Ooooooh, the former book manager of Second Read Books and Coffee opened her own store! Nestled in the back of the new Rock City building, Hello Hello is a new diamond in the downtown rough. Tons of books to pore over, with new ones coming in every day, a trade credit system, and a charming owner/manager loaded with knowledge about authors and books, new and old. read more

You have to walk through a cafe to get to Hello Hello Books. Do not be afraid! You will be rewarded. Hello Hello Books is the smallest of the great bookstores I've been to, but it is absolutely a great bookstore. The owner has set the store up masterfully, and has focused on having rich, focused collections of new and used books. You get the proverbial kid-in-a-candy shop feeling when you walk in. If walking into a bookstore ever gives you any kind of positive feeling, go to Hello Hello Books. read more

My friends and I stumbled across hello hello books while on a touristy jaunt down the coast from MDI, and ended up spending almost an hour digging through their fantastic collection! In addition to their insane used book selection, they also stock hard-to-find zines and a great assortment of new releases. The guy behind the register was really nice, and the large haul of books and trinkets we picked up were extremely affordable. Two thumbs up, five stars, would absolutely go again. This is one of the best small, independent bookstores in Maine. Seriously. The owner, Lacy, is not a run-of-the-mill shop owner. She loves her customers and she loves books.
