The course is generally well kept, and while some holes have many trees and other foliage, I've only lost one disc in 20 rounds. Parking is expensive at $6, but I play often enough I bought the yearly pass. If you are lucky, there are a few free spots right outside the parking lot.

Course has more holes that reward a RHBH player than LHBH. I played when almost every hole was on its B setting, which is the longer distance. Pros 2-4 pins per hole. Cement tee boxes. 2 practice baskets, but they are not located in an ideal location. DGA Mach V baskets throughout. Decent signage. Many holes have phone holders so you could film yourself teeing off (never seen this before.). Not too crowded, even during a peak time on a holiday. Modest elevation changes. Most of the course is wooded and require shots that navigate through and around tree clusters. Well maintained and still has that newish feeling. Several tee boxes were implemented on a slope and they built them up proper; slightly elevated, with wooden borders. Many holes have comfy wooden seating areas (tons of bowl holes;) Cons Course map needed a couple times to find the next hole. Poison oak is rampant. $6 parking fee must be paid at the lower Chestnut lot closer to the entrance. Bring bug spray, a few holes the mosquitos/gnats were annoying.

SP's location isn't too bad, considering that it's in ESSJ. SP has your usual amenities, and a few unusual ones: -5,500 sq foot skateboarding area -Coyote Creek Trail access -Playground and Tot Lot -Non-reservable Picnic Tables w/ BBQ pits -NO restrooms Other than the skate park, SP is pretty cookie-cutter design. Unless you're into skateboarding, or live close-by, I can't really see coming out of your way here. With that said the facilities are pretty well-kept, and graffiti-free*. SP gets my customary 2.5-stars, with a 1/2-star bump for having cool features like trail access and the skate park. *Expecting a skate park to be graffiti-free is pretty foolish around here. They actually did try and keep it clean, but after about a year they realized that it was a Sisyphean task. Personally, I don't mind it as long as they keep it on the skating area and off everything else.

That puts 4 decent skate parks in east San Jose. There isn't any parking and even parking on the street is severely limited. Whether you can park in the adjacent school's parking lot is a mystery. We parked in front of someone's house for our short visit. I noticed a sign that seemed to have rules on it. It was about eight or nine feet off the ground and I would need a ladder to be close enough to read it. We had to pass the playground to get to the skate park. I noticed that they used a soft material there to cushion falls. The skate park was a combination of street and vert. You had to deal with the street to get to the vert, at least, at a minimal level. The graffiti is a bit frustrating as it is very slick, but adds some character to an otherwise bland surface. The bean bowl at the far end is about the same size as the one at Lake Cunningham or Granite skate park in Sacramento, but the graffiti makes it much more challenging.

It's essentially a trail (actually SCVWD access road) that follows the Coyote-Alamitos Canal (CAC)--which protects against hill runoff, and conveys water between Coyote Creek and Los Alamitos Creek. FP might be known more for what it doesn't have, than what it *does* have. What it does have are great views of Santa Teresa/Blossom Valley, and a fun adventure if you have young kids; if those two things intrigue you, then read on. The official beginning of the park begins at the south end of Cahalan Ave at Foothill Dr. There you'll have to hike up a decomposed granite trail for ±150' elevation gain on a series of switchbacks until you get to the top. Then you will be faced with a perilous decision: left or right? Left (Southeast): This is the less interesting direction; it just essentially follows the CAC as it parallels Colleen Dr until you reach the end of the line at Snell Ave. Right (Northwest): This the more compelling of the two options, as it provides an interesting shortcut to Almaden Lake Park. It starts out much the same way as the left side, following the CAC and paralleling Foothill Dr until you reach the official "end" of the trail about one mile in. However, if you're feeling adventurous, near the end is an unofficial, well-used dirt bike trail, that will take you up another small foothill (with even better views!) and towards Almaden Lake. I believe the master plan is to eventually have the trail officially take you there, but until funding is available it's nice to know it's still a viable option. Parking- Plenty of street parking is available on Cahalan Ave and Foothill Dr. Amenities- No restrooms, no playground, no nothing--this is a no frills park that's just dirt, trails, trees and rocks. Although, there was one lone picnic table and garbage can halfway up the hill, but that's about it. Ordinarily, I don't give parks with such few amenities anything above 2-stars, but there's something about FP that's alluring to me. It's peculiar, and peculiar is welcome in my book. Plus, it's a great place to take your kids hiking, and that's always a good thing. Now grab your hiking stick, some granola and come check it out!

This is an amazing park with multiple…read moretrailheads that are not too difficult to hike and offer spectacular views of the surrounding hills and even mountains in the distance. We also enjoy going here for birdwatching and always carry binoculars with us. On each trail, we get rewarded with sightings and sounds of a variety of birds. The park's upkeep is great, and the public restroom is well maintained.

Please note: motorcycles/dirt bikes are prohibited. This is a fee park, and it only accepts cards. I found the machine wonky and it took a long time to successfully pay. It was $6 for a day pass. There are multiple trails, at least one bathroom with handicap parking, a picnic shelter withs remarkable bbq pit that can be reserved, and various benches and tables. There is little to no cell service (good or bad? You decide) out there. Out on the trails, we didn't see benches or water, so consider bringing your own water. There were some small boulders when we wanted a respite. I found it lovely out there, quiet, peaceful, with a rugged beauty. I look forward to seeing it in spring.

My main complaint is they occasionally spray with round-up and the City doesn't seem to care. (I sent them an email asking them to find a less-horrible-for-the-eco-system alternative, but they basically told me to mind my own business and they were going to continue to use round-up no matter what) The big issue is they don't always post a notice about the spraying, the last time they were out there spraying they did not post a warning beforehand, like they had been doing. Nor did they post to let park-goers know that the round-up had been sprayed. We only know it was sprayed because we happened to be there while they were doing it. So it's a nice enough park, but if you would rather not walk where they are spraying round-up, keep that in mind.
