I think Dr. Billy is an excellent surgeon. He was highly praised by the nurses at CMH. I had a serious hiatal hernia that had moved up to my rib cage and pressing against my heart. He was the best surgeon there is to repair the hernia. He also secured my stomach so that it wouldn't move up again. I very much appreciate his kind manner and explanation of the surgery and after care. I have and would recommend him to anyone with this problem. The office staff were pleasant and efficient. You can't find a better doctor or surgeon in the country, I'm absolutely convinced. Dr. Billy really cares about you as a patient, but more importantly, as a human being. His superior knowledge in the field and in the operating room instill patient confidence and respect. The personal connections he establishes really make you feel like you're a part of his team and you're all working towards the same goal. I have a difficult time conveying this sense of trust and importance in a mere written review, suffice to say you won't have any regrets and your quality of life will increase a hundred-fold. Months after surgery I went to the hospital because of pain. When Dr.Billy came to my room he was pissed & spoke to me like he was pissed. I asked him about emergeny taking pictures & saying I had a ulcer & he said (they didn't know what they were talking about) well I just found out I have 3 ulcer's. To bad you didn't care enough about me to get to the bottom of my pain, it's the reason I never went back to you. If you didn't care then why go back. I have had several infections fluid on the lungs extensive hospital care. 1 full year without food or water had to be on a feeding tube. After 3 years of care from cedars Sinai hospital. I wound up having to have my entire stomach removed and I am now esophagus to intestine. I still haven't totally recovered. read more

The bad reviews about the office are true. There was a monthlong wait to get an appointment and then once you have that appointment they schedule the rest of the appointments 1 month apart with Dr. Billy being the last appointment. I learned that this is the opposite of the way most offices do it. You normally meet with the surgeon and then tests and scans are ordered by him and the appointments are spaced out based on insurance requirements. My insurance only required 3 months of dietician appointments, with Dr. Billy I would have waited 6 months just to see him. They kept rescheduling my dietician appointments which pushed out my appointment with Dr. Billy so I switched to another surgeons office in the area and was able to have the surgery before the date I would have seen Dr. Billy. Everytime I mentioned switching to the office manager or receptionist at Dr. Billy's office they would say something like I would have to start all over again and I would lose all that time. That wasn't true. If you decide to go with them and want to switch just talk to insurance. I had surgery about 6 weeks after I switched. The office staff is also pretty unhelpful and just not very nice. The only people were kind to me were the nurse practitioner that did the tests and the sleep doctor. read more

Dr Billy was my surgeon and both him and his staff were wonderful to me! My insurance took care of everything so I cant relate to people who had to have a financial fight with them. My service was beyond phenomenal. Both my father and I had the same sleeve surgery but he said Dr Billys office took even better care of me then his surgeon in LA. They walked me through every step of the way and made it simple for me with dates of everything and what followups I needed. My surgery was simple and I felt safe and taken care of by my nurses, dr.Billy and all his staff. I highly recommend this office to everyone as it changed my life read more

Let's be honest here: all anyone should care about when considering elective surgery should be the skill of the surgeon. That said, if you can't get past the front office to gain access to that surgeon then what's the use of his skills?? I have never been to Dr. Billy's Office. I have never had an appointment with him. Why? For the same reason as others have stated here: the vile and obnoxious office staff. From the person answering the phones, to the "finance" girl (whomever she was), I was treated with a bitter, snappy, condescending and shockingly rude attitude that was in no way justifiable. So, after being verbally spat in the face when I called to get a "cash price" for surgery, I abruptly hung up and made an appointment to see a much better doctor in the same area (who performs surgery at the same hospital) with kind, caring, empathetic and compassionate staff who treat you like a family member (it's a "bariatrics" place Thousand Oaks!!). It was a wonderful experience and I am grateful to the nasty staff at Dr. Billy's for chasing me away and into the hands of people who actually care about me. Lastly, I, too, live in the Woolsey Fire area (Westlake Village). Several of my neighbors lost their homes. I, too, was evacuated for TWO WEEKS, however, I did not go around treating people like dirt due to my personal situation. THERE IS NEVER AN ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE FOR RUDENESS AND SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOR. Dr. Billy has put together a phenomenal bariatric program that begins the day you first express interest in bariatric surgery and honestly never ends. Patients aren't just given the surgery and sent on their way - they are monitored and cared for the rest of their lives. Pre-surgery patients receive nutritional and psychological counseling, assistance navigating insurance, plenty of opportunities to ask questions, pre-surgery educational classes, pre-surgery medical screening (including an on-site sleep test if you need it). Every effort is taken to evaluate your surgical risk before surgery. And every effort is made to ensure you have all of the information you need to make this life altering decision. Post-surgery there are educational classes, periodic check-ins, support groups, yearly blood and bone density tests, and even exercise classes!! Dr. Billy's staff is the finest I have ever met. Every single person I have met has been professional, compassionate and above all else - completely competent! His offices are state of the art, all inclusive, comfortable and welcoming. I have a couple of friends who went to other doctors for their surgery and believe me - they have not received the same level of support, information and caring that patients receive at Dr. Billy's. Unfortunately he was an out of network doctor for my insurance but the extra money I spent going to him was worth every penny and more! I would definitely recommend Dr. Billy to ANYONE who asked without any hesitation whatsoever! read more

Each time I've seen Dr. Billy, although he is very nice and explained my potential surgery in detail, I had to get by his very rude and cold appointment booker, Becky. Becky has lied to me and told me that a request for my insurance to pay had been submitted but she hadn't heard anything. In the same sentence she told me I was very welcome to call insurance myself. This was said in a snotty and condescending manner. I asked her "why she was being short with me" and she said "I'm VERY short with you because you're giving me grief about scheduling your surgery. Gee, she thinks she should arbitrarily book when she feels like it and I should march in, have my stomach cut up when she feels like communicating with the Ins co and the hospital. I have to ask you people out there "who does this girl think she is?" Where did she get this sense of dictatorship and rude smugness? I then contacted my insurance company and was told the request had not even been submitted. I spoke to the insurance "person" at Dr Billy's office and she concurred. NO SUCH REQUEST HAD BEEN MADE. I asked twice for Dr Billy to call me to discuss and 2 weeks later I have not received a phone call. Even if Dr Billy was the best surgeon in the world I would never work with a doctor who has a "front bulldog" like Becky. Considering he never called me back the only conclusionI I can come to is he likes her style. It must work for him In some way. REALLY? read more

I feel the need to add to the comment made by Lorane G. I am a previous patient of Dr. Billy's. He is an amazing surgeon and very thorough and kind with his patients, I could not say enough good things about him. However; I could not say the same about his office staff, especially "Becky and Jackie", they are in fact very rude and not professional at all with Dr. Billy's patients; which makes him look bad. I too encountered several issues with Dr. Billy's office staff during my surgery scheduling time and insurance approval. His staff (beginning with the receptionist Jackie) is incredibly rude to Dr. Billy's patients and when I tried to speak to the office manager about this, I got Becky to respond and cover for Jackie. I hope Dr. Billy will seriously look into this matter so that his future patients can have a more positive experience when deciding on their surgeon. read more
