Amazing shelter with such caring staff. When we adopted our second dog, we had concerns about making sure she and our first dog would get along and be happy living and playing together. The staff at helping hounds worked with us and our dog to find the perfect addition to our family! Our two dogs are best friends!

Let's get some things down, It is a great shelter that cares about dogs. Do not believe the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews they just are mad they did not get a dog or that it did not work out. My family got a dog from them and he is great he live's up to what they said about him and better.People there were very nice. GREAT place to get a dog.

We got this happy healthy dog from Helping Hounds. We were able to talk with her foster in Texas and they had a good amount of info on her in terms of her behaviors, training, and personality. The staff was kind and helpful through the whole process. We will likely get a second dog from there soon!

Financially we were able to give a donation during the holiday season in addition to buying all the essentials to bring our girl home. But it is nice that they have events such as this where families who might not be able to part with all that money up front can take home a new family member, spoil them a little, and hopefully give back throughout the year rather than just paying the adoption fee. I was impressed by how clean the cat room was and how happy the cats seemed. The volunteers didn't seem to know much about the individuals and the lady working at the front desk was a bit brash. I also do love that it is a non kill shelter. The only thing that brought it down to a 4 was just the harsh attitude behind the desk.

We came a very long distance to adopt the cat, she argued with me because we did not have the" perfect conditions" set up for adopting , gave no constructive advice about where to go locally to find veterinary care that was immediate, then threatened that the pet my son had picked and played with for over 10 minutes..we could not have, could not put a deposit on...and that the pet would more than likely be adopted. Furthermore that we should consider adoption agencies closer to our home. What an absolutely nasty idiot she is, and she should be fired. When I stopped in, I got to meet and pet sweet Elsa, which was the highlight of my day. She's a very calm and friendly good girl. The shop is in North Syracuse on Main Street, near a bunch of other businesses. If you don't know where you're going, you can easily pass it by because the signage sneaks up on you. There's a little lot on the side. When you walk in, you immediately see a case stocked with fancy dog treats. There were some shaped like tacos and cannolis and other adorable things, and many were Easter-themed. I couldn't resist packing up a couple to bring to my family's dog for my Easter visit. The pooch's reaction is to be seen, but I'm sure she'll be stoked. I asked the owners if they made the biscuits in house, but learned their delivered in from a boutique doggie bakery. There's a wide variety of cat and dog supplies here, at various price points. I'm not the sort to splurge on pet food, but if you are there are a lot of organic options. However, there's also a pretty wide and interesting variety for such a small store, and as I mentioned, there's items that fit with various budgets. This is a cute spot, and I think it's nice to support local rather than always buy from the big box pet stores. I'd come back, and I'd certainly send any animal lover this way.
