Took our Rhodesian Ridgeback there forever. The last two years we complained that he had lumps on his body asking what they were from. Then he developed a severe limp and they put him on gabapentin, again we called and repeatedly brought him in for exams and consistently called about him having a problem with the drug not helping him. At this point I insisted on xrays and ultrasound be done, they had us do bloodwork and told us if we paid an extra $89 for an official pancreatitis test that would be definitive diagnosis that would give us the result that we needed. They could not perform an ultrasound so we had to take him to the emergency vet on Bridge Street in a Syracuse. Come to find out our dog did not have pancreatitis as the vet said the blood test revealed but had full pledge lymphoma, (his neck and jaw presented with hard nodules by the ex vet) and we had to put him down. The emergency vet said the blood test that Stacks office gave us for pancreatitis was not a definitive test for that. So which is it? So disgusted with the lack of concern given toward our dog. It wasn't until i insisted on testing because I was concerned of cancer that a closer look was finally given by the Stack Vet. Extremely upset that we had to put our dog down. Think twice about going there. They gouge you for pricing and never addressed his health until i threatened legal action. read more

My dog has been a patient at Stack since late 2016. They have been flexible to meet her urgent needs when they come up. There was a recent incident where my dog needed to come in a few times within a week. I want to thank the staff for taking care of her. It's pretty common knowledge that animal care has become a scam as big as healthcare for humans BUT this place has shocked me left and right. 1) At my cats exam she was not weighed and no she didn't leave my side during that visit but a number was inputted 2) I had to pay for sedation meds for an xray they claimed they couldn't get (even tho she couldn't even stand/shut her mouth) when I brought her home 2) I dropped off a bloody diarrhea sample and they tested for parasites but neglected testing for the more likely reasons. Moved to the area and setup my dogs as new clients. They required a deposit to schedule her for a first time exam - no problem. No appts for months. Again, no problem. A week later my dog gets into something and feels sick so I call them (my new vet) to have her seen. They won't see her because she hasn't been seen yet and it's an hour until close, so they tell me to go to urgent care/emergency. Called the virtual vet and they said we could wait until morning. Call Stack back at 7:30am and they again say they won't take her because "we aren't an established client." I'm sorry, but what B.S. Asked for my deposit back because I'm not going to a vet long term that isn't accessible to my pets when needed. She couldn't process the deposit refund because I couldn't tell her which card it was on (I have several and told her it was one of 2). Really poor customer service and don't seem to care about new clients at all. I'll take my $$$$ elsewhere, even if I have to drive to the awesome vets in Rochester. I had my last dog for 15 years and they NEVER turned me away when services were needed. read more

The doctors at this clinic are very good, however, the front line Staff (who you go through to get to the doctors) are rude and unprofessional and unempathetic. They treat the clients and animals as if they are an inconvenience - failing to understand that our animals are like our kids and that our business pays their paychecks. I have had situations where this front line staff actually lied to the doctors about my interactions to cover up their insubordination and their rudeness - which if uncovered probably would have gotten them fired. I have been treated poorly by the front line staff for 2 years and tolerated all of this because this clinic is affiliated with Cornell and the doctors in this clinic saved the lives of two of my dogs....However, I can't take the rude and unprofessional front staff any longer. I have decided to take my animals elsewhere after being a client of this clinic for over 15 years. I have filed a complaint with the State because the most recent interaction resulted in my dog not being treated. I requested a stool sample to be evaluated as I recently boarded my dog and I was told by the front line staff to bring it in. I did what I was told but when I brought it in, they told me they would not accept the sample without my dog being examined. My dog was just in for his yearly exam and my dog, being a border collie, must be drugged and put out for the safety of everyone. I explained this to the Staff and they said that the doctor would not let me leave the sample. I asked for Dr. Stack to call me. Dr. Stack called me and told me, himself, for me to bring the sample in and drop it off. I went back a second time, only to be turned away, again, by Staff! When I explained that Dr. Stack himself told me to drop off the sample, they told me that they could not accept it! I told them to talk to Dr. Stack and to have it looked at and I would call back for the results. I left the stool on the counter and left. When I called back two days later for the results, Dr. Stack told me to take my business elsewhere (after 15 years) because I used profanity and threw the stool sample at the Staff! I would NEVER do such a thing and I was appalled that the doctor would call me and accuse me of this without talking to me or reviewing their waiting room camera footage to see if his staff was telling the truth. Bottom line if Dr. Stack told me to bring the stool sample in, why would I swear at staff and throw the stool sample at them? A better question is why would the Staff tell me they would not accept the sample after the doctor called me himself and told me to bring in the sample? Unfortunately, you must go through their front line staff to get to the doctors and if you have the patience to be treated poorly, talked down to and made to feel like an inconvenience, and then wonder how they are treating your animal in the back, you will find this clinic okay. However, I don't think anyone, with a sick or injured animal, should be treated like an inconvenience, or worse, allow a Staff to make up a story to cover up their insubordination. I have reviewed the other complaints listed here, and there is truth in what they have written, as I have experienced the same behavior when calling for my animals. The doctors themselves are good vets - actually very good vets, unfortunately, the people they have working for them are unprofessional, untrained and rude. I wonder how they treat my pets when they are in the back being treated when the doctor isn't around. A doctor that left this clinic and moved out of State (I loved this doctor, she was absolutely amazing), agreed with me that she did not like working there as the Staff was rude and unprofessional. read more

They are the most uncommunicative and least empatheti. When we brought our baby girl in to see them, we told them the phone number they were to call with lab work results; as my partner would be working and unable to take calls. They still called my partner just before their office closed, which left no time for me to contact them to get said lab results. Lack of professionalism and communication! I can't be happier with the care and professionalism of Stack Veterinary Hospital. My 3 1/2 year old lab is the fifth I've owned and trained for waterfowl and upland game hunting. His drive, desire and athleticism is amazing but it came at a cost. Two rear knee surgeries were required. It was not quick or inexpensive but he is now on a great comeback. Every step along the way the staff and veterinarian were awesome. I'm so glad I found these folks. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I have always been happy with this vet's office. The vets were always very sweet and helpful. They have been my vet for many cats of mine over years and years. Even growing up my parents would take our pets there. Now, I am sadly ashamed of place. I tried to get an appointment for my cat who has been having coughing fits recently. I have been a paying customer for her and my other cat since early 2017. They told me they could not take her until 6 months out because I hadn't brought her in since 2019. I guess the technician/company policy forgot that COVID happened and many people weren't visiting doctor's offices unless there was an actual health issue. Apparently they care more about new business and trying to punish people (for not coming into the office unnecessarily & spending money) than they do about loyal customers & poor innocent sick animals. They don't deserve the one star I am giving them. Last week my dog started throwing up. She vomited eight times in two days and I tried to get into them. They have my dogs records and told me she was a patient but they had never seen her yet. I called a few times for her to have her basic appointment along with my other dog, but they never returned my calls, they kept telling me this time to take my dog to an emergency vet, but the ER vet would say that they were gonna put my dog to sleep. They told me to take her anyway. I asked if this woman Colleen would take her dog there and she said no, but I should. Well I did not and my dog got better for a few days, but then she went downhill again. I called them and they acted very concerned and said they would get back to me. They got back to me with a different attitude and said that they will never see my dog for a stomach issue ever Because she is not established and not considered a patient. They signed her up, got her records and refused to see her! luckily I just found a new vet who sounds like they care and they are seeing my dog this afternoon. I am done with. Dr. Stack. He actually called me back, called me lady, look lady ... and when I said OK man, he called me a bitch. Professional?. It's obvious they care about the bottom line and the vet doesn't even put the animals second he puts them last. They are hateful and I suggest steering clear. I will be following up more." Stack has it's good and bad points. The good points: 1. They don't turn you away ever in an emergency. If your pet is gravely ill, they will move mountains to get them seen, and will do everything in their power to make it happen. 2. They have the common sense to treat cats like cats and dogs like dogs, and they even have separate waiting rooms for each. The bad points: All to often, they will become a sales rep for Colgate-Palmolive (the parent company for Hill's Science Diet) and try their best to pitch you expensive prescription pet food. The last cat I brought there was admittedly obese, and they first thing out of their mouths was 'your cat needs to be on special cat food'. No mention of anything common sense like not spoiling your cat so damned much, just go straight for the jugular and try and sell you some food so expensive you wouldn't buy it for yourself let alone your pet. Probably not a bad place, if you can withstand the sales pitches. read more

Just took my dog here for the first time yesterday and had a great experience! Everybody was so nice, informative, and accommodating. Since my puppy still needs a booster vaccine and she'll be unable to get groomed for a few more weeks, I was seriously stressing out about the hair and tear stains growing around her eyes -- the vet tech Madeline saw this and had another tech trim it for me so I didn't have to worry! Made an appointment for my very ill dog to get an ultrasound, since none of the vet hospitals around where I lived had any appointments available in the near-term. Everything seemed fine; the front desk person (who was unfairly blamed for what happened next) was lovely and very understanding, and I secured a time on Wednesday to get my dog there. I then got a voicemail this morning informing me that Dr. Linda Homco, the ultrasound technician, "wasn't accepting referrals" from my vet, citing her "busy schedule" (please note that I was able to schedule the appointment because she *had an available time slot*) and that the appointment was cancelled. That was it -- no offer to find someone else, no resources, nothing. Just "eh she doesn't feel like dealing with you." I'm in tears writing this: there is nowhere nearby that can take my poor dog to find out what is wrong with him any time soon, and now he's going to suffer for longer and by the time we do get the ultrasound, it will doubtless be too late. So thanks, Dr. Homco! Your dedication to keeping your schedule free has doubtless killed my dog, but I'm glad you got a break! UPDATE: This place has called me repeatedly, even after I told them to stop contacting me, and then CALLED MY VETERINARIAN and yelled at HIM to make me take down this review. This is completely, mind-bogglingly unprofessional. I certainly will not retract this review and as far as I'm concerned Stack can kick rocks. Don't take your animals here; if they don't get a 5-star review they'll harass anyone they can reach in order to pressure a change. Unbelievable nerve. read more

Love love love this team! My dog received care here for about two years (2016 - 2018). Each routine exam was great and they always treated her with respect and adoration which I loved. Unfortunately, my dog happens to be extremely anxious when it comes to vet visits. At Stack, they understood her anxiety and after trying other methods decided to give her trazodone to help make the visits more bearable. This made a huge difference. Additionally, there was an incident where my dog got into a tussle with my friends dog down in Ithaca, and they were opened bright and early on a Saturday morning when I called to make an emergency appointment. They brought us right in and patched up her ear in no time. 10/10 recommend! read more

We have only been going to here for a week, and we are already SO glad we made the switch to this animal hospital. Dr. Stack is amazing and has already gone above and beyond for us. I like giving credit when credit is due. I stopped in at Stacks on Saturday at noon in regards to setting up an appointment to examine (deworm and vaccinate) an abandoned ~10 wk old kitten I had taken in earlier that morning. The kitten had been abandoned by a family who had recently moved- the neighbors who found him couldn't keep him so here I am at Stacks with little "Dutton". They get booked quickly (I take my other pets here, so I know it's hard to get seen sometimes) but they were able to give me a Monday afternoon appointment. Stacks has expanded over the years in response to the demand for decent pet care. They would do well having another (or multiple) locations in the CNY area. Good vets are hard to come by. On 3/28 I took my 10 lb. 18 yr old blind dog to Stack for grooming. After a yippy ride there, I was struggling to get her out of car, she slipped out of her harness and then one of your caring employees came out to help me...I have never experienced this kind of attention before. Now, enter MacKenzie Foster who talked with me and Esther in the kindest way and then gave her an excellent grooming and I KNOW THAT IS NOT EASY. My little dog is so much happier after this grooming at Stack (who is to be commended on their excellent staff). I recommend them to anyone who is seeking the best in grooming and care. read more

We have been coming here for 2 years now and they are wonderful. Our dog Billie needed a leg amputation and the hospital has been by our side from day 1. Don't bother for boarding. When you try to request an appointment online they never get back to you! Then when you call you sit on hold for well over 15minutes then give you some lie about how "they sent an email that must not have gone through" just to cover their ass. They won't ever bother to get back to you or call you so you will be lucky if you can even get in. And if they are this careless with their bookings imagine how careless they must be for the animals. I switched to this group after working with two other vet groups. Stack Veterinary Hospital is by far, the best in the area in terms of staffing, staff training, organization, timeliness in seeing you for a scheduled appointment, cleanliness of facility, scheduling appointments, prompt response, communication, reminders, completing pet insurance paperwork and referrals to specialists. The ambience is positive, the staff work well together, and appear well trained. They are compassionate animal lovers, and non judgemental of pet owners,.... just helpful, well researched and intelligent in problem solving about animal illness. Yesterday, we had an emergency with my dauchsand, I called at 7:30 am and they took us in immediately. I trust and believe in this group. They receive my highest recommendation. read more

The short version: I couldn't recommend Stack more highly. We have had to bring our dog in just about every month/ every other month for the past year - and every visit, the care we receive is timely and thoughtful. Moreover, Dr Lovejoy is respectful of our budget and takes the time to thoroughly explain different care options to make sure our dog is receiving great care that doesn't break the bank. Everyone who works there, from the people at the front desk to the vet techs to the vets themselves have provided exemplary service. 10/10 would recommend. --- The long version: My boyfriend and I have been coming here since September/ October 2017. On our first visit we were seen by Dr Stack, and for every visit since we have seen Dr Lovejoy, so she is the one most of this review concerns. We had planned on getting a mutt from the shelter, but a Golden Retriever fell into our laps! Sweetest dog in the world - but she has had various skin problems that involve us coming into Stack every other month at least. In case you're curious how a potential visit will go, from start to finish: Every visit is straightforward and timely: we walk in the door, they have our dog stand on a scale by the front door to get her weight, then have us sit down while they get ready. (Of the 10+ times we've been there in the past year, I've only had to wait more than 5 minutes once.) A vet tech comes to get us and brings us to one of their various rooms to be seen. We explain the reason for our latest visit, and as she talks with us she types the notes into our dog's digital record. Once we've talked out all the important points, the vet tech leaves the room for a moment and comes back with Dr Lovejoy after having reviewed the preliminary notes with her. Dr Lovejoy then does the physical check and proceeds from there: running a test, exploring treatment options, explaining and answering questions, etc. When our visit with Dr Lovejoy is done, she leaves and the vet tech wraps up the visit by checking us out and arranging for a follow-up visit if necessary. The vet tech sees us out of the room and sends us off with a smile! Finances are a little tight for us, and when we first made that clear Dr Lovejoy was very understanding. She thoroughly explained the pros, cons, and costs of different care options. In our case, it's hard to pinpoint the cause of the type of skin problems our dog was experiencing without some very expensive tests. Dr Lovejoy helped balance our finances with our dog's care by pursuing a cheaper course of action: process of elimination, while mitigating symptoms with medication that relieved itchiness. And it worked! The skin problems wrapped up - though we've had to go back to get her spayed and treat ear infections. Still, it's a great experience every time. All in all, everyone we've worked with has been friendly, knowledgeable, accessible, and efficient. Most people are anxious to find great care for their beloved pets, so take it from a repeat customer: when you bring your pet to Stack, you're putting them in good hands! read more

A family owned business, right here in Syracuse! I brought my dog in for a wellness visit to Stack Vet Hospital today and had an excellent experience! Overall, the staff was friendly and pleasant to work with and the facilities were nice and clean. The veterinary doctor was knowledgable and walked me through everything from A to Z. I had taken my cats to Stack years ago and once I got 2 kittens last year I returned here to have them checked out.The staff there are very accomodating ; they do have a separate cat and dog room which is a great idea... recently had my cat spayed; I had been a little nervous since she had a small murmur but everything turned out fine..... they have called at least twice to check on her and are always compassionate and professional..... this business has been around for a very long time......
