I just completed my second session with Carla last night but will go back to the 2 days following my first session. I was absolutely shocked by what a difference I felt after a just one session. I am seeing her for weight loss and anxiety. I felt absolutely lathargic, depressed, and helplessly out of control with my binge eating so I sought out an alternative to crash diets and CBT. Carla came highly recommended and when I met her I understood why. In our consultation she listened attentively, took about 4 pages of notes, and genuinely seemed interested in helping me. For my issues it is imparative to have at least 3 sessions, as you are making a lifelong change, not just conquering an obscure fear(which I completely understand with my fear of spiders). She is teaching me self-hypnosis so that the work we do is practiced and the way my mind works is changed. It's amazing that it is taking so quickly, after my first session I was making great choices in my diet, exercising wasn't a chore, and I had more energy, keeping busy everyday and wanting to focus on where I'm going, no longer hung up on where I've been. I was amazed at the places my mind took me as we worked on joining the mentality I had at a happy time in my life with where I am now. It's almost like having my former self as a cheerleader. I was visualizing things,places, I would have never consciously remembered. Now I don't have to "work" to control my eating, and my anxiety is more of a "non-issue", in my second session she asked me about it and I was shocked to realize the panic/anxiety hadn't even entered my mind, forget about actually having an attack. It's as if my subconcious is working in a positive direction instead of self-hate/disappointment feuled. I don't know how I could've done this without hypnosis, Lord knows I've tried. For those of you who are trying hypnotherapy for the first time, as I was, let me put your mind at ease. I too was not sure what to expect with hypnotherapy...I guess I had an idea but not until I went... did I really "get it." Carla first evaluates you.....then Carla helps you place yourself in a state that is almost dreamlike...as if you were falling asleep but your mind is still there... exploring various thoughts that seem to come and go. She allows you to access your subconscious through her verbal guidance and allows you to use specific techniques in order to confront your issue and move past it.... Not like I thought this was something you could do with teeth grinding but it was. Let me say that after the first session my jaw was never more relaxed, I became more aware of when I was clenching by teeth throughout the day and I was able to use some techniques she gave me to help release my jaw. After the 3rd session, I had definitely made some noticeable progress and I needed to continue with my home hypnosis program on my own. So far it has been working well and I believe that over time as I continue with my home program, my body will continue to make adjustments consciously and subconsciously. This has been a transformative year for me and Carla is a big part of the reason why. I visited her in January after struggling on and off with my weight for years; I felt helpless and hopeless. So...I am not an often reviewer of things. Although I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed many fabulous eateries and services in Boston and I am quite opinionated no one has warranted the actual opening of a Yelp account until Carla. I started seeing Carla roughly 3 months ago. I have had four sessions with her so far. With each session I can feel with every fiber in my body that it's all shifting. Through working with Carla, I was hoping to feel more confident in preparing for the Commission on Dietetic Registration Examination. Hypnotism sure sounds like a fantasy, or like what gets performed in bars. My personal issues related to being addicted to sugar (candy bars & ice cream), along with drinking nothing but diet soda. Plus some aggressive driving habits. In the past I've attended weekly dieting meetings with a truly inspirational person, and always struggled, and failed. I wanted to loose weight, tried so many different things, diets and exercise, but always ended up gaining everything back in a short time and some extra pounds, that I got tired of it.
