It saved me the 4 hour trip to Bear Island. I arrived early around 10:30 a.m. and there were no crowds. We camped out near the showers and bathrooms. This park is perfectly lined with trees in abundance. Perfect for barbecuing. We enjoyed our morning picnic and the water was very relaxing. I appreciate how clean the sand area was and the garbage was well organized as well. I brought my mother who is 72 and I had concerns about the proximity of the restrooms and showers and overall access. I was relieved to discover how convenient the beach access was for those with mobility impairment and disabilities. There are no pets allowed and no alcohol permitted. I watched the park rangers escort someone with a pit bull to the parking lot to return home and a woman was asked to dump out several beer cans. You have been warned. They run a tight ship here. I plan to return throughout the remainder of the summer months.

This is the perfect little quiet place to enjoy nature, and soak up the sun locally. It's a little difficult to find the entrance. Oxford is very rural and there is a lot of empty land. Look for the Lake Devin sign. Parking is available on the gravel providing easy access for those with mobility challenges. This was perfect for mom. We sat under the sheltered picnic area which kept us cool from the sun. There were families fishing for catfish on the docks and the weather was perfect. We usually camp midweek to avoid crowds on the weekends. We've always managed to snag a site right on the Lake. This last site was #47. Beautiful views and large sites make for a lot of privacy. Many people fish from shore and there is a fishing pier in the campground. The bathhouse is well maintained. The only negative from our last visit was the the dump station was closed and we had to drive to Nutbush Bridge Campground, about 15 miles away. We highly recommend Bullocksville Campground.

In addition, there simply aren't enough showers, especially clean ones, to accommodate the number of sites. We did meet some great folks and had fun, however, compared to other state parks, this one needs to make some changes in order to improve campers experiences. If you are wanting to connect with nature in a quiet environment, choose elsewhere.

The trail is mostly paved and very well maintained, but there are also a few off-road paths if you want to switch things up. I also appreciated that the trail has a few solid uphill stretches. I'd say it's ideal for intermediate walkers, runners, or cyclists looking for a scenic challenge without venturing into hardcore hiking territory. The only downside is the parking situation, which can get pretty tight during busy hours. Still, once you're on the trail, it's absolutely worth it. There's local store about a mile or two from the site where you can purchase firewood, gas and whatever else you may have forgotten to pack. Across the street is a new Mexican place before that it was a pizza place - hopefully they stay open till our next visit. We tend to meal prep when we camp. The lake had a 1/2 mile concrete path around it with plenty of benches. There's also a gazebo to enjoy shade at the center of the lake or go fishing. If you enjoy feeding the ducks, geese, and fish, there's food for 25 cents. When you're walking and work up an appetite, Chico's Mexican restaurant is a short walk away at the old power plant.
