It was lovely inside and reasonably priced. If you like brunch, it is great. My companions were looking for lunch and they don't serve that until one so they left. I had a combo of a meal with espresso. The Chilaquiles were not really my thing because they were fancy and not too heavy and had a weird ham on them, but the ambience was great. The servers also were very nice. I think it is worth going here if you'd like a fancy looking brunch without the ridiculous price. The tablecloths had nice linens, so I don't see this as a "bar". Hace 2 semanas fuimos a cenar a Rosas & Xocolate un grupo de 3 familias que estábamos de vacaciones en Mérida, 3 de los integrantes que pidieron pasta con camarones se pasaron toda la noche y casi todo el día siguiente hospitalizados en el Hospital CEM que está a unas cuadras de ahí. El gerente del restaurante no mostró ninguna empatía argumentando que no podemos comprobar que fue su comida cuando es claro que fue ese platillo en específico el que los dañó, ya que los que lo comieron se enfermaron. No sólo fue el impacto de los gastos de la hospitalización, también fue el impacto emocional que causó en las familias ya que los afectados fueron 2 niños y 1 adolescente. My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night and had complimentary breakfast. Our entire experience was fantastic! The restaurant took necessary COVID-19 precautions. Service: our waiter, the only one there, was Eric who's originally from Venezuela. We were there early enough to engage in conversation about COVID-19, life in Merida/Mexico, culture, and politics. He was very friendly and gave us good insight to life in Merida. He was very attentive and provided great service the entire time. I had ask for a different dish after my specialty dish came out and had. I don't eat meat and failed to ask for more info on the enfrijoladas. Eric was very accommodating for my mistake. Food: We both ended up getting the chilaquiles, one without meat. The sauce was very delicious and the tortilla was nice and crispy. The dish came with refried beans and eggs. The whole dish was extremely satisfying! Did not disappoint. We were also served cut fruit with honey and granola, very fresh. To drink we had coffee and fresh orange juice. Ambiance: The restaurant is quaint and intimate. There was jaz-like music playing in the background. This place has lovely character and charm. We would definitely come here again for breakfast! We had Sunday brunch with our friends visiting from the states. We have wanted to try brunch here for a while. We made a noon reservation for inside. Our table was waiting when we arrived. The restaurant inside is very nice and upscale. Also nice bonus is the dining room is air conditioned. We started with a round of mimosas that were good but in a very small glass. Our friend ordered a Bloody Mary that he thought was nothing special. Our server throughout the meal was attentive and provided great service. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict which she had heard so much about. They were good but not as anticipated. I ordered a very good breakfast burrito. Loaded with eggs, veggies, sausage, with a delicious sauce over the top. The final meal was an omelet with sausage. It was very good. Very nice brunch experience and we will be back. read more

The food was excelente and the music on Sunday was great. The service is what takes it down to 3 stars. The waiter did not even have a pen (bad way to start) then he forgot my father's orange juice and remembered at the end of the meal. I find the low rating in direct opposition to my 5 star experiences. I ate here three times during a short stay in Merida. Twice during jazz performances, once brunch the other a Friday night. Service was best at brunch as was my table location. The hotel looked great but I was at the nearby Hyatt so can't verify my impression. The carbon chicken dinner was fabulous my other meals only very good. Brunch was very inexpensive, dinner expensive for local standards but cheap for quality and service. The crowd is hip and a variety of ages. Great location in a super city. read more

Overrated place. Location is good and setting is very nice. Unfortunately, the service was THE worst for our Mexico trip. We were left unattended for 30min or so. Nice dining areas both inside and out. The deserts are absolutely amazing and the drinks are well made - delicious. I haven't eaten a full meal here but have tried several of the smaller plates and so far they've all been very good. The Moon Lounge upstairs (only open select nights) has a really nice and relaxing atmosphere to hear some live music (jazz on weekends) and have a few cocktails. read more

This place is cute. Came here for fathers day and was lucky to have been sat down. Place was packed inside but we had the entire outside to ourselves. Would probably go for a steak or something since everyone was raving about it. I had a pesto pasta and lol it did not taste like pesto but it was alright. This restaurant is gorgeous from the outside to the inside. It's worth eating here just to hang out in the space. The service is excellent, and the food is great. My favorite aspect of this restaurant experience was the great dessert options that they have. This restaurant is extraordinary! Every dish on the menu is so unique and paired with such incredible flavors that you really can't find at any other restaurant in Merida! The waiters are very attentive and the decor is beautiful. It is the perfect place to have brunch and listen to some live jazz on Sunday's before or after biking the bici ruta on paseo Montejo! There is also a bar upstairs where there is always live jazz on the weekends and you get a great view of the city! It is on the Main Street so it is perfect location. I would highly recommend! Bad service and discriminatory treatment. I had no idea how pretentious this place was, I went in just because it was the closest restaurant I could find. First, they asked me how many people were joining me, when I said none they told me they had nothing to eat, only drinks...it was 1 pm!!! The prices of all the menu are very high, the food it's no that amazing, I ordered Chicharron de Pulpo (fried octopus), the flavors were just ok, i did not like the way the octopus was fried, cause the texture of the flour it wasnt that crispy; the light flavors of the basil, cilantro and habanero, with a few cherry tomatoes was good. The cheese table was nice, 3 kinds of cheesse, blue, brie and swiss, also had strawberries, berries, blckaberries, and pineapple and papaya candy, those las two my personal favorites, withe the brie and blue cheesse. The food was not from other world, there are places in Mérida cheapers and with best quality food than this place. I think they need to get lower their prices, work in their service (the waiter needs to introduce himself, explain the dishes, say the recommendations). read more

I was there this last Friday night with a group of seven people. We were meeting to set up a group and socialize a little since we are all new in the area. I noticed there were a few others parties simultaneously, but I figured we would get taken care of at some point. Little did I know what was going to happen to me next. After getting the server to take everyone's others he approached me. I heard someone asking for a spinach salad; however, it was complemented with salmon, and I'm vegan, so I asked if I could have it just plain. The waiter look at me with discontent, and replied if I wanted something else instead of that. He didn't offer to alter it for me. He gave me back the menu, and I just asked if he could recommend something else. He said "well, what don't you eat?" His tone said it all. So I politely asked him to skip me. He's demeanor was awful to say the least. Everyone got their food, and I didn't have anything but warm water to drink. So, the moment came to get the check and it was $100usd for only 5 people's dinner. Me and this one gal didn't eat, but the rest ordered two salads , one burger, and two pastas. They got my order wrong twice. Never apologized or expressed concern. Waitress tried to tell me I had ordered something I did not. Coffee was bitter and lukewarm. Had to ask for butter and jelly three times before we got it. Asked for salt and pepper which never came. Manager came out to look at our table but never bothered to come over and act like they try to do better than this. At the end, they billed us for a more expensive option than what we had ordered. Had to ask twice for table to be wiped clean, had to ask for water 3 times, the waiter got the order wrong, my castacan omelette with manchego cheese came without cheese, my wife's meal came made with dairy when we requested otherwise. We stumbled into this gem looking for a cold drink and were swept off our feet! Exquisite! It is rose pink down to the flowers on the table. Impeccably decorated with a comfortable hushed elegance. Classy, yet welcoming and inviting with extremely gracious staff. Outside on the shaded terrace it was like another world. Three small ponds keep you entertained with refreshing ambience. First just an iced tea to cool off. They don't serve it but they accommodated me. Looking for something simple on the menu we had a pear, arugula salad that was served in beautiful layers. I ordered a simple salad that was greens, cherry tomatoes, a perfect viniagrette with lightly grated cheese on top. It was perfectly delicious. I also ordered vegetarian pasta with cream sauce. Soothing and comforting sauce but not too heavy with only mushrooms, green beans (really different) and sun dried tomato. I also had their kiwi & greens infused water. We were too full for dessert but I'm positive they are delicious. Our server was charming, conversational, friendly and yet perfectly professional. It was fantastic! Over a week vacation in Mérida I came here 4 times... late dinnerx2, music and date night with live music on the rooftop bar, and lunch with Mama. The first night our service was lacking, took a long time to have someone get us water etc-but it was late and it's mexico so ahorrita, que no? Thought it would be a most romantic spot for our Valentine dinner as the award-winning setting is lovely. Made reservations for 8:00, paid our $1500 pesos ($100US) two days earlier. Met the owner and were impressed by his pride and passion for his beautiful boutique hotel and restaurant. Staff was still being briefed when people arrived for 8:00 first seating so when we finally were seated, we felt rushed when served the first two of 4 courses even though server, Jess, was excellent and shocked when our spinach salad was missing the chocolate "nibs"- the only chocolate on the menu that night. Sadly, my chunk of pork loin was difficult to cut and when I finally sawed off bites that were not fat and gristle, they were dry and flavorless. The owner came by, asked if we were enjoying the meal, and offered me the salmon entry my husband had chosen. I politely declined not telling him I felt the salmon was as "blah" as the pork - just easier to cut. After that, another server gave us the dessert course-fruit and rose ice cream (again no chocolate) and we left to have much more fun with a carriage ride and nightcap of Mexican cocoa and flan at the Cafe Impala! read more

The worst meal in our two weeks in Merida. The service was abysmal, despite our group being some of the first patrons that night, and many waiters standing around doing nothing. We ordered champagne to start the celebratory evening: they boast an extensive and expensive selection of well-known champagnes. They had none or only one bottles of each in stock(!?!?). Then they took forever to bring what we did order to the table, and we had to end up serving ourselves for the second round. It took forever for us get someone to take our food order, and then forever for us to get our food, and none of it arrived at the same time. Once it did arrive, it was merely okay. You want to Put on the Dog as a high-class restaurant?? You'd better step up your game. The decor and fancy tables will not fool even the slightest-traveled diners. All this, added to the fact that R&X is very expensive for Merida, made me wonder what in the hell people were thinking when they recommended it as one of the best restaurants in town.
