Great beer and great food…read more There is a lot of local beer in Mexico, but I haven't experienced much taproom culture and was happy to come across this one during a walk in Merida. It's situated in a fairly well traveled area in a section of other bars and restaurants so you can meander around tasting and enjoying other atmospheres. I ate (and drank) here twice during my short stay in Merida. Both styles of their shrimp tacos are solid. One is saucy, al chipotle, though not too spicy, garnished with coleslaw. The other, bravo, has a light pesto sauce and is nestled in a thick bed of guacamole. The tacos are good on their own, adding some of the spicier salsas that are served on the side makes them sing. Of note, the tacos here are pretty large. Served in threes, the dish is generous for a full meal or to share. Oddly, I enjoyed the best US-style (midwestern even) nachos here, and I know you may want to know, why do I order nachos in Mexico? Sometimes I wonder, too, and yet, I continue to do it. Sometimes I just want to know what a place considers "nachos", and other times I have a taste for the messy crunch of a Michigan bar's mesy nachos. Here they are haute nachos, a bit fancier than I would find at a traditional dive, and yet so close. Crunchy, salty chips, layered with melted cheese, spicy serranos, beans, pico de gallo, local sausage, crunchy chunks of pork belly, and juicy cubes of picanha. See? Fancy. And delicious. Extra points for serving it on a sheet pan. They also serve burgers and pizzas along with some more appetizers and tacos. I appreciated the smoked camellia American Pale Ale. It was good, and I drank it on two different days. I would have enjoyed a bit more bubble, but the flavor was perfect, and it wasn't heavy. There was a slight floral note, but I wouldn't call it flowery. The James (mandarine) Blonde was light and delicious, full of sweetish citrus from peels. Though it was sweet, it wasn't at all heavy, and served so cold, it's a perfect match for the Merida heat. I also enjoyed a light Mexican ale, unflavored, that was also perfect for the weather. The beer menu was a good size with a good variety, though it wasn't overwhelming, and between the food and the drink, it's definitely the type of place to keep going back.

We ordered the Especial de Carnes pizza and the Tormento burger. The burger came with what seemed to be like a french onion marmalade, slightly sweet but not too sweet, with a good blend of cheeses. They salted the meat too much for me but Mrs. Sito enjoys salted food (I have high blood pressure so I eat very little) and she can vouch for it as a solid burger. It came with yucca fries and a blue cheese dip, and while I think the yucca fries were a bit crunchy, maybe yucca doesnt gelatinize like potatoes so maybe that was how they were meant to be. Still when that crunchy I might make them less than 3/4" juliens, maybe make them 1/4 to improve the crust to core ratio. Still, for the price not bad. The pizza used a variety of sausages, all kind of thick sliced on a very generous portion of cheese, like very generous. I didnt really notice the pizza sauce and the crust was a bit hard, like a frozen pizza (though these are obviously not frozen) just to set expectations. The size was large and a good value. Overall the food was ok, if you are doing pub food its not a bad option. The prices were reasonable and it har a cute saloon vibe so if you are looking for a drink and are nearby it might be worth checking out. As a brewpub definitely worth a visit, the food helps keep you fed but its not the draw here. Happy eating from John Sito!

First brewery / taproom that we stopped at in Merida. We arrived late and we're t able to do too…read moremuch our first night but we did need a beer after a nine hour bus ride from Palenque. Great spot, loved the interior design and decor, the hostess was friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar and ordered a flight of their handcrafted beers. The bartender was great and the beers were the perfect nightcap. We'll probably return to try a few more before we leave.

We found this place, it was a little bit of a distance from us (not something we wanted to walk). We grabbed an Uber (super cheap) and I'm glad we did. Great selection of beer, good bar food (chicken tenders, burgers, pizzas, etc..) and a fantastic knowledgeable bartender who remembered us from the night before when we were at his other place in the historic center. Definitely would return here for a beer.

We love mead and how to give it a try. The mead was amazing. Food: We ordered the hop dog when the chef arrived. It was the most gigantic hotdog that I have ever seen or eaten. It is a gourmet hotdog with incredible snap and crunch on the casing and wonderful flavor. The very center of the hotdog was not fully hot but it was so tasty that I did not mind. The bun was homemade and was the perfect texture for the hotdog. French fries were served along with the hotdog. The French fries were good as well. The chef sprinkled a seasoning on them that gave them a nice punch of flavor.

I started with a glass of orange juice and my wife got a Coke Zero. They served the whole can with plenty of ice. We both ordered the Eggs Benedict. I got mine with ham and she got hers with bacon. The orders arrived fairly quickly with our eggs accompanied with some potatoes and salad. The eggs were cooked perfectly with a nice hollandaise sauce. Came through twice…read more The first was at noon on a Sunday. Joke is on us: we learned they're not open until 2pm (only on Sundays. Otherwise, they're open at noon all other days.) We came through a couple of days later because it came highly HIGHLY recommended by Big Bro. So, I was more curious than anything. Another reason I came through is to try their kibi's. (It topped my Yelp search when looking for this particular grub.) We wanted to get drinks as well since it was a hot and humid day! Pina colada for me, brewskis for Hubbers. We put in an order for the kibis because that's main reason I came through. Drinks came through, and then... mini plates of snacks, oh, WHAT! La botana, is what they call them. Whew, didn't plan on eating more than the kibis, but I welcomed it! It was a pretty good variety, too: there were sausages, pork skin, jicama and some sort of salad. Staff told us if we wanted refills on any or all of them, to let them know and they'd be more than happy to comply. Kibis finally came through, and I have to admit that I was disappointed. Not only did they lack taste, but they were also hard. They may have been overcooked which most likely contributed to the lack of flavor. Initial thought in mind were hockey pucks. Chewing through one was a challenge that I didn't bother going for a second. (It was practically inedible.) The guac, pico de gallo and sauce were great, but didn't do much for the pucks. Hubbers really liked it, though, so there's at least that. FOOD: 2. SERVICE: 4. I noticed staff mostly just hanging out together at the bar, but they were excellent at being mindful of guests. VALUE: 3. 5 for las botanas, 1 for the kibis. PARKING: Street only. It will be a challenge, for sure. OVERALL: 3. FUN FACT: They are the second oldest cantina in Merida (opened in 1917.) I learned the place is far livelier at night when they have bands performing. Someday, maybe...? Not a one-and-done, but it'll be a long minute before a second visit, if at all.
