It also had an art exhibit in the other room when I visited which was nice. The librarian talked a lot to her neighborhood friends but I had headphones in so I didn't care at all. I was attending a political organizing event that was held at the Tredyffrin Public Library…read more I did not have a chance to look at much of the library because I spent most of my time in the main meeting room. The room itself had a couple of tables and did not have a cramped feel at all. It probably has enough room to hold around 100-150 people. It seemed like the library had plenty of books, computers and other resources. There were a couple of parents at the political event and some of them let their kids out in the library to read or do some work. This library had a couple of signs for events at the library including movie nights. Across the street from the library are a couple of pairs of tennis courts, which looked to be in good condition. Once it gets warmer, I wouldn't rule out stopping odd here once in a while to hit some balls. Altogether, the Tredyffrin Public Library is a nice space to hold gatherings/events or do some reading or other work.

Signage is great and it is very easy to find the type of books you are looking for. It is also very clean. And there is a decent playground right next to the library. There is lots of parking and an electric charging station in the parking lot for electric vehicles.

Passport Service Office…read more They have the rudest most unhelpful person working there to run the passport office. Yes, we were 10 minutes late however her lack of any iota of customer service was shocking for such a nice library and other very lovely librarians. This lady could not answer any questions in regard to the form and made no effort to be helpful in any way. She kicked us out 20minutes later as appointments are apparently only 30 minutes on the dot. It is also $35 processing fee per person applying, I guess that's the price for extra rudeness.

Called on a Thursday afternoon to see if I could come in for a Passport photo and application…read moreprocessing. They were able to accommodate my last minute request and took me on Friday morning. My appointment was for 10:30 and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Everything was very straightforward and the processing fee was $35 and the library charges another $10 for the photo. I highly recommend coming to the library over waiting at the post office! Everyone is very friendly and accommodating!

One of the security guards told us to head straight up to the 3rd floor -- he compared it to a small museum full of rare things. Intrigued, we took his advice. So glad we did! We happened upon the free guided tour of the Rare Book Department, and spent the next hour happily being shown treasures such as books with special bindings, books with gold leaf, the taxidermied raven named Grip which inspired Edgar Allan Poe's famous work, and yes, Charles Dickens' desk, complete with his scratched-on initials. Later, we came across a giant shoe in one of the reading rooms. This place is fantastically magical. Love the Free Library of Philadelphia.
