Recently, my 14 year old Carrier Infinity furnace started making a lot of noise when the inducer motor came on. So, I turned it off. I called one HVAC company up, and and the guy they sent out said that I should get a new furnace. I also called another HVAC company up for a 2nd opinion, and the guy that they sent was a little older, and said that he had seen this before: the seal between the inducer motor and the inducer fan had gotten dried out over the last 14 years, which is understandable. So, he put a few drops of oil on it, and it stopped the noise, and hasn't been a problem 3 days ever since. I'll probably have him come back and replace the seal entirely, but there is no hurry to do so now. According to him, replacing the seal can be an issue because you may need to replace parts when taking the the inducer fan apart, and depending upon how hard it is to get the fan blade off the shaft. But it is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new furnace. read more

I had Henry do several jobs for me in the past with little problems which were addressed quickly and fairly. As time goes on however, the last project they did for me was in a duplex rental unit that share the same furnace. I told them I wasn't in a hurry and they could do the work at their leisure since I was doing a huge overhaul on the unit which housed the furnace. This was in the spring and they said they would be in and out by September so the drywall guys could get in and get done. They didn't get started till late October and held up the drywall crew from getting done. They ran some of the ducts improperly and said they would correct the and still haven't after several calls. I got a call from the tenant that there was no heat in January and called them. They told me to check the filter so I did and it was fine. I called them and said it starts but quits again. They asked if I did something to it? I didn't have a clue what they were trying to imply and insisted they get out and look at it. They went out and looked at it and told be they had and install issue that needed corrected and someone would call me and explain but for now it was working. I waited about a month and nobody called so I called them. They told me they had to do some re plumbing and the issue is fixed. I was happy with that until I went to check the job. I found the filter laying in the middle of the room with the furnace door and some orange foam filter (looked like a "test" filter in the place where the correct filter should be. The only people who have access to the unit are the drywall guy, Henry's crew and myself. I asked the drywall guy if he knew what the filter was laying on the floor for and he had no idea, why would he screw with the filter. I asked Henry and got the same answer. I know I didn't do it so someone is full of poo - Henry. I also asked them several times to fix a awful looking duck they ran and was told they would and it still isn't done. I just keep getting more and more upset. On another unit the installed a new furnace and ac unit. Within warranty the tenant called and said the furnace was running but the house was getting colder and colder. I called them. They went out and found the filter was clogged. They sent me a bill for about $130 and didn't replace the filter. I called and asked them if they were going to take a filter out but they told me it would cost another $130 for their time and the filter. I told them I didn't think it was fair they charged me for a furnace under full warranty and their answer was the filter should have been changed. Why didn't they suggest I or the tenant check the filter instead of sending a guy or why didn't they already have a filter in the truck since they knew what size it was prior to going on the call.
