We have always camped at Mears State Park...after camping at Whispering Surf this will be our first choice! First off the owners Jane and Andy and great! They are super nice, knowledgeable and want you to enjoy your stay while being respectful of other campers and their property. I was extremely impressed how they dealt with the Covid restrictions...We felt extremely safe and my family was able to enjoy our camping experience! First off, I don't know about you but my husband and I do not always communicate great when parking our camper...well forget about that at Whispering Surf....The Campground Host will guide you to your site and instruct the driver exactly which way to turn the wheel to get the camper parked on the site perfectly! This is AMAZING!!!! We love the full hookup! They come around twice a day and pick up your garbage from your campsite. They have an app they use called campers app in which you can order wood, ice, firewood, fire starters, Hershey Bar, marshmallows, graham crackers, and more...they they deliver the items to your site. They have a small mini golf course, and play ground however they were not used much due to Covid. This campground is VERY nice, VERY maintained but not fancy...it is perfect for us...we are camping. There is a little resort next door that rents very basic older pontoons for full or half day for very low prices. Which is great if you want to putter around bass lake. The people we have met at Whispering Surf have been kind, diverse and from all walks of life. Quiet hours are similar to most campgrounds, as long as your outside music is off and you can't be heard and aren't disturbing other campers it didn't seem to be problem for us to be out by our fire after quiet hours. We love this campground and plan on booking several spots for next season!

This spot definitely isn't for everyone and there won't be any "easy" hikes. Nordhouse Dunes makes you work for it, but the payoff is immense and completely worth it! Ludington State Park is HUGE, and we absolutely loved it! We paid $12 to get into the park and…read morestarted with the hike to Big Sable Lighthouse. It's about 1.8 miles each way, so just under 4 miles round trip. The trail to the lighthouse is a wide, sandy path that runs through the campground and then continues out toward the lighthouse. It's an easy path, but it is long and definitely sandy, so be prepared for that. The lighthouse area is really cute, and while we didn't care about going inside this time, they do offer tours. It was $8 per person when we were there. There are also picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy the area around the lighthouse. After our hike, we headed over to the beach, and WOW. The beach is absolutely massive and beautiful. It's sandy rather than rocky, incredibly clean, and the water was crystal clear. It was definitely brisk, but so beautiful that I didn't mind! There's a designated swimming area, volleyball nets, and really nice facilities. There are no lifeguards, though, so keep that in mind. It also looked like there were some really cool trails through the sand dunes, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore those on this trip. We needed to grab lunch, rest, and hit the pool before coming back later for sunset. And I am SO glad we came back. The sunset here was absolutely spectacular. Watching the sun go down over this huge, beautiful stretch of sandy beach was one of the highlights of our entire trip. This park really has everything: the lighthouse, miles of trails, huge sand dunes, a beautiful beach, swimming, volleyball, camping, and some incredible views. We only scratched the surface of what there is to explore, and I already know we'd love to come back and spend an entire day here. Definitely one of the highlights of our Ludington trip and absolutely worth the $12 admission!

The road to the entrance is full of sand dunes and beaches on Lake Michigan before turning into a wooded area at the actual park. We got to see a Bald Eagle perched upon a tree as we entered the park. The park has several RV camp sites that to me looked to be right on top of each other. They pack them in like sardines but I think that is the norm at these type of places these days. Not sure what the cost is to camp but for non-residents to come in for a day pass it was 11.00 per day. We decided to do the Lost Lake trail which is a loop across a couple islands on Hamlin Lake (yes there are bridges, you don't need to bring your snorkel). The hike was relatively void of people only passing a few along the way. I did see a hand full of people kayaking on the lake and a few more kayaks parked on the bank near the campground. The hike is 2.1 miles long and relatively flat the whole way. I wanted to do the lighthouse trail as well but there wasn't enough time. Great place to get your nature fix via kayak or foot. Not sure I would want to camp here on a weekend though unless you want Billy Bob and Mary Sue's 7 rugrats running around your site screaming.

Our lot was plenty big and was clean when we arrived. They give you a program of all the activists happening during your time of stay which was great. I loved that they had fun things for the kids to do. The park is paved so you don't have to worry about dust kicking up every time a car goes by. I also loved that it was within walking distance to some really great shops, Craig's Cruisers and even a few restaurants. If you're in the Silver Lake area you should consider staying here. I think it would be fun even if you don't have kids.

Cartier Campground was a great spot for a weekend camping with friends. I booked the sites 6 months…read morein advance over the phone and we ended up getting the best sites in the campground! 147, 147A and 147B are all at the very end of one of the loops. 147 is the last campsite so you only have one neighbor next to you, which made it really nice for our group as it was very quiet and a little more secluded. The site adjacent to 147 is also nice as it's large and tucked back off the drive a little bit. The people at the office were great and will deliver wood or ice that you purchase right to your campsite. The restrooms were very clean and somehow had very few bugs inside which was awesome. The showers were great with hot water and adequate water pressure. The campground is right off some really nice paved walking trails and they also have a winding mountain bike trail. Plus you're right near Lincoln Lake. The campground is a quick drive to downtown, the beach, restaurants, bars, etc. I read about a company (Lakeshore Watersports) that rents kayaks on Lincoln Lake (supposedly right from the campground), but we called them and they never called us back, kind of a bummer. The sites were $28 per night for a tent spot with electric hookup. They kept the big RVs up towards the front of the campground which was nice as it made it much quieter back where the tent spots were. I would definitely camp here again.

The grounds are very nice and shady. The only improvement I see is maybe the addition of another shower facility, but i'm here on the 4th of July and they may not have regular business to justify it.
